Ok then,theres been lots more interest in Fatbikes on here nowadays…
folk are realising they arnt just snow bikes…but are actually better on sand and shingle/stoney shores and as you may know we live on an Island 😮 unlike some trails that can get too wet then soft and sensitive to ride the coast is there all year round to go ride- High tides excempt!,
alot of folk were genuinely interested in buying the complete Salsa Mukluk fatbike here in the UK when released- except Ison have decided not to release it here in the UK 😥
well Salsa you just lost a lot of possible sales, not just in the UK but alot of european riders who buy through the UK,and there is alot more interest in Euorpe than the UK in them,
but anyway i know On One are listening in and what i am wondering is firstly are/would you consider a fatbike frameset for production?
you have the tech and experiance in frame building production to push this more than anyone else proberly at present in the UK,
the biggest hurdle for most bikers interest in buying one is justifying one due to cost,
an inline frameset using a 150mm rear hub/135 front hub with 47mm trials rims is the cheapest way to do it…also allowing a 29er wheelset to be fitted,horizontal dropouts with mech hanger allows multiple gear setups,
and we have all the companys here in the UK to supply the nessecery parts for a complete bike, Hope,Middleburn and DMR provide all that is needed,only a 100mm BB is a non UK company off the wall product.
so… if you would buy a fatbike frameset from One one to run as a fatbike and 29er add a comment please and we can forward this to them,
if there isnt any interest from them maybe another frame builder is interested,
this post isnt posted for views on these bikes etc…but for feedback,
if you dont like them or a non believer then fair enough thats your view and your entitled to it,
but if you want to buy one here in the UK (or Europe)without the hassel of uninterested importers…
i have one already and another half built so dont really need to be doing this but kinda want to as its another form of cycling and has for me been alot of fun… so add your name if interested,thanks 😮

thats what every one thinks but there for soft terrain…these areas arnt niche areas, maybe snow is but there great also on sand,peat,gravel,heather,marshland etc… to go where your orange five wont go 😉

I think the frames/forks are pretty reasonable priced and availablity is good .. its the rims and specialist parts that are the killer..

non offset frames need 150-165mm rear hubs, try buying a cheap one of those and rims aren't too cheap either.

thebikechain – spoke to Pat yesterday. They won't be £1500 tho', more like two and a bit. Still will be decent value though as it'll have nice bits on it. Looking at the Salsa full builds and they're doing them with good kit, not basic at all. Allegedly.

Bruce Ive seen the fun you have had with your "Pug" and had a wee shot , They are great fun and probably If they were slightly cheaper I'd consider getting one. Only downside Is that If your kinda limited to having one bike due to lack of cash , grief from wife etc I'd probably have to say No as my main bike would have to be lighter and capable of doing the normal trails that we do. Having said that there probably not much more weighty than my GT.
If my numbers come In I'll be in touch with Mark (TBC) to order one along with a new F/S Zesty.

I live near the coast and could have a lot of fun with a fat bike. An affordable UK sourced frame would be good but I suspect everything you would need to stick on it (wide rims, tyres, wheel hubs etc) would bump the cost up quite a bit.

Coastkid – how heavy are these things?
with 100mm BB, 150mm/135mm hubs, massive tyres and trials rims, steel frames? I'm thinking they must be fairly weighty, no suspension fork will save a little weight I suppose but still must weigh a fair bit, eh?.. there's very little climbing on beaches so does it matter?.
also, what's the top/average speed you can do on a beach? pretty slow I'd have thought.

doubt I'd ever want one, a couple of BMXs and roadbike to compliment my DH bikes and hardtails offer me more than enough riding variety but I do see the appeal if you actually live within sight of the coast (I can still see the firth from my front door but I'd prob need to call a taxi to get me back (uphill) home.

i was viewing them as an "i could have a second set of 29er wheels" and it would be much more versatile through summer. I think in winter where i live now it might be invaluable for just getting some riding in locally ! – i go the other way atm with 1.8 mud tires in the snow which is fine till the snow is hub deep – was fine for puffer though !

GW, pugsleys with surly`s own rims weigh the most,around 34 lbs+,
speedway cycles make the lightest build kit off the shelf with light rims and cranks, sub 30lbs bilds easy, dont know the record lightest production fatbike!,
top speed?, i have had 28 mph will a full on gale behind on Aberlady Bay on concrete firm sand!, was good as 2.1 miles long!, average road cycling speed around 12 mph,
i know i can go xc riding with regular bikes ok but deft tire a bit sooner, but still alot of fun,
just the constant stares and questions from joe public which gets really tiring 😮
