Is it a numbered key? You can often buy them online for less then the price of cutting. That said the price of keys is a bit messed up. £5 to get one cut, £3 to buy one online, £4 to buy a new lock with 3 keys
I’ve just got back from having some keys cut £5 each for front door but the window key is a special at £12.50!
It’s not exactly something you need to but every day so even if they were £20 each is hardly the end of the world
I bought some last year which were about £2/£2.50 apart from one special one that only special old cobbler’s had blanks for which was £4. So yeah. Sick squid sounds a bit much. Did you opt for a special colour with a rubber thing on it?
Ignore the hand-wringers asking “how much is your house worth to you without a key?”. That’s just ridiculous 🙂
If the OP lives in a one-horse town fair enough. But I live in a city and you can’t open a cupboard without a locksmith falling out. Why pay £6 at the chain place when you can cross the roads and get 3 for a fiver? And maybe admire some awesome shoes while you’re there.
I know there are quite a few West Yorkshire folk on here, but next time you need a key cutting go to B&S Locksmiths in Huddersfield. While they are cutting your key take a look around – an absolutely amazing place, and well worth £6 for the visit alone!
Come on…. it must be something!!
I’ve had a word with myself, and the best I can do is if they don’t accept contactless for the £6 they deserve to go out of business like the lazy, grasping shysters they are.
Wait until you need to get a key cut for a Fiat car. I had to get one last year, a regular key cutter couldn’t do it as it has to be programmed to the car. One specialist later I was the owner of a £100 car ignition key. 🙁
£6 sound like its probably about right, it’s £6 more than I pay though as one of my mates works for various landlords/letting agents in the Leeds area and has all the kit to cut his own keys.
