  • 1×10 – Noise in lowest gear?

    I’m running a 1×10 with the following:

    Zee single specific crank.
    RF Narrow Wide 32T.
    XT 11/36 cassette.
    KMC gold chain.
    XO short cage clutch mech.

I experience some noise in the lowest (largest) gear, however I didn’t experience this with a 1×9, is this normal? It’s as if my gears aren’t indexed but I know they are!!

My gears are indexed perfectly, chain isn’t too short/long but it was quieter with my non clutch/NW 1×10 combo with a guide?

I’ve read that the NW rings can cause this noise but I thought I’d get other opinions.

    Cheers

Yes, I think they are noisier but it’s a trade off on the security a nw gives you

I actually commented on that thread but didn’t want to hijack it as it was started as a ‘chainline’ thread, but I did read the odd comment about the rings.

Much prefer the set up now but thought I’d ask another ‘1X’ question!!

@jonv. (even though your the only one on the thread!)

    Noise has gone.

I was running a KMC chain and read another thread about them not being 100% compatible with NW rings, so I switched back to my XT chain and the noise has gone, happy days and no trade offs!!
