I am ditching the 8 speed Alfine (FS if anyone is interested) and need advise on 1 x 9 setup on a singular peregrine with drop bars.
Will be keeping the 32t middleburn uno just need to decide on rear cassete and rear mech plus levers, any advise appreciated.
    Thanks

Will 1 x 10 be ok with middleburn uno?

Second that unless you are wanting to do it really cheap.

9spd SLX mech is only about £5 less than a 10spd one.

Yeah, if you don’t already have the 9 speed stuff then 10 speed will be the way to go really. Unless that causes drop bar issues?

Also, it’ll be a really good idea to replace the Uno ring- these days it makes little sense to go 1x without a thick/thin ring, they are just plain better.

There’s 0.2mm difference on the internal width between a 9 and 10 speed chain. So may or may not fit, but a new ring from Middleburn would be 10 speed compatible, not sure if they do a thick/thin version.

What’s wrong with the Alfine, surely a better choice for the winter, depending where you ride.

Not getting on with it, it is also laced to 26″ rims and I am going to fit 700c instead.
Would you go long or short cage with drop bars?

Cage length is determined by cassette range (total tooth difference of the drivetrain), road short cage mech will work with 30T or 32T sprocket, most MTB short cage will work with 36T or larger. You will need to double check STI shifter compatibility for drop bars, as Northwind said above.
