Best UK Event, Show or Series – Singletrack Readers Awards 2016

Another hugely contested category. Everyone’s favourite event is usually skewed by the events that they attended, by the events they did well at and by the events that had the best weather. Nevertheless there were some clear contenders for this category:

‘Ard Rock Enduro

Many of the ST gang were at this year’s event – read the report of the fun that was had here. It’s an event that has gone from strength to strength over a few short years. The riding, the atmosphere, the camping and the camaraderie among riders were among the things mentioned when nominating this future classic.

Fort William World Cup

Sun, dust, a Chainsaw memorial run, Martyn Ashton making us all weep – read all our 2016 Fort Bill stories here. What can you say about this huge UK mountain biking institution? Tens of thousands of people make the long trip up north to see their heroes race on one of the toughest and longest courses on the World Cup circuit. And there was even perfect weather this year.

From small beginnings to over 1000 riders, is this the ultimate festival of mountain biking? This grass-roots and all-for-charity event has gained more and more fans over the years. And most of them seem to live here on the forum.

Andi is a gadget guru and mountain biker who has lived and ridden bikes in China and Spain before settling down in the Peak District to become Singletrack's social media expert. He is definitely more big travel fun than XC sufferer but his bike collection does include some rare hardtails - He's a collector and curator as well as a rider. Theory and practice in perfect balance with his inner chi, or something. As well as living life based on what he last read in a fortune cookie Andi likes nothing better than riding big travel bikes.
