newsletterRollapaluza, the organisation trying to revive the sport of roller-racing, are launching their new National Series Championship, which kicks off on November 7th at Bristol’s Mud Dock.

The Rollapaluza events, which have been running since 2000, involve an incredibly fast paced race between competitors over a 500m course. The difference with this races is, unlike traditional club or track racing, the competition unfolds on stationary rollers – essentially large turbo trainers, with a large countdown style clock charting the rider’s progress over the course.

The National Series aims to find the UK’s King of Spin and Queen of Cadence. Regional qualifiers will be in held in Scotland, Wales, North + Midlands, South West, London + East and The South, culminating with the ‘Grand Finale’ to be held in London.

If it sounds easy, think again. Olympic Gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy has attended one of Rollapaluza’s previous events and he recorded only the third fastest ever time, completing the 500m course in 19.44 seconds. The current record stands at 17.90 seconds.

The Rollapaluza group are also running a Halloween Cyclo-Cross event at London’s Herne Hill Stadium, 31st Oct. The race will be run during the night, with riders allowed only a single front light, although critical sections of the course will be illuminated. Knog and Fenix will be there to provide riders with free lights to use for the event.
