They are giving me a Mk2 – I’m ok with this as I’m still a dinosaur who likes running 2x  – so I can whack a front mech on

I actually like to be able to pedal up really steep stuff at a nice spinning rate rather than having to grind the gears or  having to get off and push

I often pass peeps pushing their 1x up  steep hills, with my out dated gearing 8-)

    when I cant buy 32 / 22 chain rings anymore i’ll reluctantly go 1x

Update – I may well die if i carry on riding the bike

I’ve got to cut the frame up send PIC to SC and they are going to send me a replacement frame !!

They may be expensive but the warranty is great

Only downside is i need to go boost on rear wheel, get a new seatpost and new bolt on front mech

    Hi All

    Thanks for input

logged a support call with santacruz , since SC changed ownership does anyone know if their warranty is worldwide now ?

As i original bought my bronson in Crested butte when my old ellsworth snapped while on holiday, then the Original Bronson frame cracked and I had to get the replacement from the USA and ended up having to pay shipping and duty on the replacement frame

If i do get a new frame its going to hurt my wallet as i’ll have to go boost and replace my 2x groupset

had a week up in the lakes a few weeks back for once we had good weather its normally windy and rainy and we discovered the down side of good weather in the lakes – Horse flies , I made sure any routes we did had minimal slow sections as whenever we were moving slow the buggers were biting, also noticed the feckers like to hang around gates – so whenever we had to stop at a gate we got bitten

The odd thing was their bites didnt swell up a lot, for me where as horsefly bites on the surrey hills leave inch long red welts on me

We also had a coupe of days in the Peak District and yorkshire but didn’t get bothered by horseflys so much there – but there was a bit more wind on those days

You should have bought direct – I’ve got a 170mm 30.9 which is working great, and last week i ordered a 150mm 30.9 with shimano i shifter for the wife’s bike which arrived in just 2 days from oneup…..

Oneup dropper post – cheap and well made – and relatively short length for inserting into seat tube.

I’ve got a 170mm on my bike and have just fitted a 150mm on wife’s small roubion  which previously could only fit a 100mm reverb

Has a replaceable cartridge – cost of which is lower than a reverb service

Not in my pack – but always take a spare whenever on go off on a bike trip away from home

I bust my my last mech on wire Mesa In Utah back in March – if I hadn’t had a spare in the car I’d have lost a whole day of riding on my trip , maybe more if i couldn’t find a bike shop with the right mech in stock

Instead i got back to the car fitted my spare mech and then went off and rode little creek mesa

But i dont carry a spare mech in my pack , I do a have a rear hanger and a spare gear cable though

When I do a stateside Trip I got a bit mental with the spares i take i.e.

Spare Tyre, Rear Mech, front mech, cassette, chain, front and rear shifters, front and rear brakes, spare dropper post, spare saddle, spare spokes, brake pads, gear cables, grips, front chain rings, pedals , rear shock

Ok so everything bar the frame, forks, wheels , headset, stem, bars and BB…..

As I dont want to be messing around trying to buy spare parts if something breaks when im out there, plus most stuff costs a lot more to buy out in the states

@bigyan I have the SC removal tool as well. Have you ever managed to reverse the tool when the outer race stays in? In my experience that just doesn’t work

The snatacruz removal tool works well if you use in combination with a vice and a piece of plastic plumbing tube to push the bearings out into

when the inner part of a being pops out – I found that you have to use use a bearing cover round the reversed extraction tool to stop it from popping open – got a broken bearing like that in garage at the mo – will take a pic this weekend when i remove it

When i installed my post It was slow to rise initially as the seat post collar was too tight

I didn’t even know there was an air valve for the post – i’m not going to take my saddle off to look for it but this vid does show some one putting air in

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Vv-sBnZBs0

Its odd that the oneup site does not have any info about the air valve – anyone found any official info on it ?

Been out on the bike with the one up dropper post 5 times now covering around 100 miles mainly around the surrey hills, with a lot of up and down seat post action, and its been performing great, no creeping backup, no sagging down , post action is not too fast going back and theres a positive clunk when  it tops out, seat clamp is working great – no creaking or movement of saddle rails, I’m using a highline lever which works well- I dont think the CB highline will be going back on my bike unless the oneup breaks (bought the oneup while my highline was off for warranty after losing 15mm of travel)

Thanks but need 32t, as the jump from 22t to 34 is a bit too much

I’m running a double  up front with 22t and 32t with 11-40 11 speed cassette – I like the low gears for riding up almost all the climbs where i ride

And the easy gears come in very useful when i go on hols to places like Colorado where your doing a lot of climbing at high altitude (In fact after trashing my xtr rear mech in Utah earlier this year this September i’ll be switching over to 11-42 at the rear now i have a xt rear mech for wall climbing gear ratios when i have a 3 week trip to Colorado)

so why don’t you buy the shim when they are back in stock – to make that adjustment if its only just too long….

    DROPPER POST SHIM

Roverpig i’ll fit mine tonight – but who knows how long it will take for problems to present – I’ve had problems with almost every dropper I’ve owned – KSLev, kronolog, highline, reverb, giant contact switch sl , only post I’ve not had a problem with is my old faithful gravity dropper post on my winter bike. Its a shame GD see to have stopped developing and refining their posts

Mine just arrived direct from one up -they didn’t have the lever i wanted in stock (still running 2x) so i will reuse a lever from one of my old posts , looks like a solid bit of kit, and i get an extra 2 cm of drop compared to my old 150mm post 8-)

No Cable housing or gear cable included – I assume you get that if you order the lever ?

I’m going to put my old Giant SL Switch Dropper post back on while waiting for the hi-line to be fixed

It has more lateral movement in the post than the CB , the levers not as nice as the cb , and i’ve had to have a replacement cartridge for it as well, but they are pretty cheap.

Arghh !!!!! Just measured my post and isit only showing 145mm of post I’ve lost 15mm , I’ll post up my exclusivee of a chance warranty claim , hopefully I’ll just get a new cartridge quite quickly………

    zinger

Its not the same inside as a reverb etc – its just a sealed cartridge like you get in an office chair, the seat post does not budge unless you have the lever pressed in, i did a lot lifting my bike by saddle while doing the kokpelli trail a few weeks back due to all the snow and had no problems

I’ve had a hi line 160 since last August and it’s working really well

I had said to myself if never buy another chance product after the kronlog

But I wanted more than 150mm drop and to be able to pick bike up by salesa

So I got a hiline also it has a 3 year warranty

I just got back from a 3 week trip to usa where it got used a lot in NV, as, Utah and Colorado and isit still working ok

Only thing to watch out for is making sure the outer. Cable is not zip tied too tightly and that the outer is not able to move where it goes into the frame otherwise you can get the post slipping down or up

check out trailforks there is loads of riding out there few weeks back i did this as a night ride which was great

    https://www.trailforks.com/route/desert-hills-loop/

Also there is load of great trails at cotton wood / blue diamond

https://www.trailforks.com/region/cottonwood-valley/ i easily did 30 miles of riding there not riding the same trial twice

Bootleg is not as good for xc riding as the above – its got more of a DH slant

Watch out for the heat now – i was lucky and had fairly cool temps- but it does get very hot out there

8 year old gravity dropper – never had a problem in cold weather as its just one great big spring , only bad thing about it is the lack of drop compared to my summer bikes highline 160cm post

nope pretty sure it was one of these – Had Diablo and SixPack on full at the time so had a pretty good view of it as it ran down the trail in front of me

people have been buying them as pets and then bunging em out when they find they are too hard to keep

before i had a dropper post i always used to get a bad back while riding

never get a bad back while riding with dropper now , due to the variety of seating positions you get with a dropper

My post is up and down like a whores draws while out riding in the surrey hills as well – you” be surprised at how much you will use it once you get one

    So definitely get one

book as early as you can as Moab accommodation is expensive and sells out quickly

I’ve stayed a couple of times at the La Quinta which is alright and in town

Also stayed at Holiday Inn Express – pricier but better rooms

No Moab Hotels let you take bikes into the rooms in Moab

Come on your getting your prioritys all wrong – it should be about the riding…
30 minutes drive and your at the surrey hills – loads and loads of great singletrack

30 minutes drive to get to trails on the south downs

1hr 30 minutes drive to get to swinley forest (if the traffic is light)

Not much in the way of good riding in Horsham – St Lenoards forest has a few trails – but get really muddy in winter

there are trails at tilgate forest which you could ride to from horsham

DIY yourself , use MTB Project and Trail forks to get trail descriptions etc

i’ve not updated it for while but i’ve details of loads of trips i’ve done to states on my site here http://www.mtb-hol.com which should give you some ideas

heading our to moab this March – not looking forward to £=$ exchange rate though its going to be an expensive trip

Anybody with real world experience of the Giant Contact SL dropper? It gets decent enough reviews, mainly in relation to the low price point.

I’ve got the 150mm version the cartridge failed after 3 months of use (It had gone through 3 weeks of riding above 10000ft – which may have been a factor)

Took 2 weeks to get the cartridge replaced

But other than that it goes up and down nicely, the remote lever work well, and the seat clamp works well. I’m running it in stealth mode but it can be non stealth as well. Its not the lightest of dropper posts – but for the price its worth it. Its a pretty simple design – basically if anything goes wrong with cartridge that gets pulled out and you plug in another one

I bought it as i needed the extra 25mm of drop over my old gravity dropper post , which was still going strong after 6 years of use..

Just bought the xm 1501 wheelset from http://www.freeborn.co.uk got 30mm internal Rim for front and 25mm into Rim for rear
Not used them yet but they look great
Only took them a day to get the wheels in from the time I ordered them
Looked at German websites but with the pound slide the saving buying abroad want enough considering the hassle you would have if any thing goes wrong with a wheel

Give them a ring and ask for Joe

Trails are so easy to find out there you dont need guides
see my website http://www.mtb-hol.com for some past trips i’ve done to Utah for ideas (Gave up updating the site a few years back – but theres plenty of utah stuff on it)
use mtbproject & trailforks for trail gpx as already said

I bought a Giant Contact SL Switch Dropper Seatpost 150mm back in august as i wanted the extra drop over my 125mm gravity dropper

While it was working it was great – no creaking from seat clamp, lever worked well, but after a 3 week bike trip to Colorado the internal cartridge has started to fail to lock out the post, and it drops by an inch when i sit on it. It does this even without the cable attached so its nothing to do with sticky cables etc

I’ve just emailed the peeps i bought it from to get it sorted out – hopefully I will be able to get a new cartridge soon

But till then the 8 year old gravity dropper post has gone back on the bike, why cant someone make a post as reliable as a gravity dropper but with more travel and a better seat clamp…

How tightly squeezed into your pack is the bladder – too tight and the the water will leak out from where the hose clips in – happened to me on two bladders gave up and switched back to my ancient bladder without the detachable hose
