You can do it yourself, aslong as you use genuine VW parts the warranty will not be void.

Oh, mine is seeing people from old workplaces/school/college that I wasn’t mates with at the time. If i spot them in the street i pretend I’m looking at something in a shop window etc so I don’t have to speak to them!

Another is presenting in front of people, never been a fan of that.

You’ve done more than most people ever would in their lifetime by the sound of it!
There’s plenty of other childish stuff you can do to keep you sane! Enjoy the paragliding :)

You bodge it- you get upto speed on a journey, its steadily losing coolant and the next thing you know your engine runs dry- basically **** your whole engine.

    Sounds like he already has!

Don’t replace the housing, chances are there’s plenty of other damage that needs sorting out.

What happened when you lost power? Did you come to a total stop and the engine stalled, was there any smoke? Did you notice the temp needle rising?

From what I’ve heard yes the protection and black chilli are worth it.

I had the same tyres as you and couldn’t believe the amount of punctures i got. Just riding through local woods any little twig would go straight through! The amount of money i spent on tubes in the month i had the tyres was crazy :x

I did quite like the tyres otherwise but couldn’t justify the price of black chilli.

I now run a nobby nic on the front and ralph on the back. The ralph does seem to puncture fairly easily but nothing like the MK’s. The nic seems good, although the compound is a little hard (these are the cheapy ones).

Im no expert, but should you be checking for other damage before replacing the stat housing?

Could the overheating cause the head to warp or head gasket to fail?
Id be tempted to drop the oil myself and see if there’s any sign of coolant in it, and maybe taking the plastic engine cover off and looking around the head to see if its leaking oil/coolant from there?
Are waterpumps ok to run dry?

What car is it? It could just be a gasket or something similar thats failed.

I would be more worried about the loss of power though, if you’ve overheated your engine you may have further damage.

Aye, surely no LBS would fit that. You can tell its not a new crack anyway.

Do I ahve any right legally? Does distance selling regs apply when you buy from an individual, or is it just ‘sold as seen’?

Yup, was quite surprised and a bit gutted they aren’t threaded!

I’ve just text the seller, so will see what he says. The pinkbike ad does say its had a new bb, so would have thought he noticed before fitting that… :?

I didn’t realise a 5/6 year old alloy frame would be past its best :(

Thanks for the advice, unfortunately the previous owner wasn’t the original owner either, so doubt I will get anywhere with a warranty claim.
It may well have been there a while. When i picked it up i did look over the area but there was nothing to see with the paint over the top of it and it still had the bottom bracket in too. You could tell it wasn’t a fresh crack, there was already a fair bit of grime in there.
What did you do with your in the end timmys? Did you carry on riding with the crack or bin/repair it?

The rest of the frame looks in very good condition for its age, so if i could repair it and have it last another year or two atleast that would be good!

I’ve seen that welding video before, i just wasn’t sure whether it would weaken the other welds around that area? I don’t know if the frames get heat treated from new?

    Poor guy

Some people just won’t learn. Its like when your sat as a passenger in the car and the driver just doesn’t anticipate whats happening around them. They will see brake lights 100m ahead and slam on, pull out in front of people and just generally don’t have a clue how to drive.

Hope the guy recovers but he should have stopped riding a long time ago by the sound of it.

I really like the red descent there. The black is good, but i can only ride some of it, and i haven’t dared do the see-saw yet.

Just get it live mapped rather than a generic chip to suit your engine. 200bhp sounds a little optimistic, but not out of the question. I think the PD/CR 170bhp engine from the golf/audi gets around 205-210bhp from a live map.

I would hope for around 170-180bhp and it still be good to drive. How old is the car? How much power can the standard clutch take?

Molgrips, stage 2 possibly need some exhaust mods, or it could just be a more aggressive map that gets more power, but will possibly affect drivability. Going up the stages you will probably include a dpf/egr delete and going up looking at different exhaust systems and turbo’s etc.

Isn’t the DLC fairly similar for PS3? I just never bothered with it for xbox.

Infact, in the 2 years i’ve had my xbox its hardly ever been used! So i will let it go for the right price if you are interested :) Its the 250Gb one.

I was looking at spending around £2500 on a new 26″ bike recently, but with many manufacturers changing their wheel size standard I’ve just decided to buy an old 26″ frame from 2008 and save some cash, don’t really want to buy a bike i can’t get parts for in a few years time if this 650b thing does become the new standard.

I know its poor technique, Its me not the pedals. Other people got on fine with them.
It still ruined my day though, and when it takes the fun out of it thats enough for me to give up!

Anyway, i can go back to trying to manual now :)

Ive given up on SPDs again. Lee quarry was a nightmare with them…
Fell about 7 times just on slow rocky stuff. Gave me no confidence and had a pretty crap day!
    Flats are back on now.
