Gove told me I wouldn’t need any training to do this teaching job. It’s not as easy as I thought!!

Give JSInsurance a try. They’ve been cheap for me in the past but I’ve never claimed

Will be pretty much impossible to live in the city and be able to go east or west without getting stuck in rush hour traffic. Edinburgh is a nightmare during rush hour. The ring road / by pass is horrendous too. I’ve had journeys that take 20mins by bike take nearly an hour in the car.
To avoid congestion you need to be as near to the city outskirts as possible

used to work for an American company which in it’s weekly bulletin published employees with birthdays or employment anniversaries.

There were quite a few good names but the only ones I now remember are Dick Bollock and Sandy Beaver.

Think they tend to chug along fairly happily. Ours seems to need a new nozzle every 3 years or so which is about £20 and does make the boiler quieter!!

If you’re central I’ve always found Biketrax (Tollcross) to be good.

It’s highly unlikely those records still exist 25 years later.

Can I respectfully suggest that you might get more accurate advice on the pepipoo forums rather than a mountain biking forum.

Pottery cafe serves great cakes. It’s only a mile away so can completely understand why they’d campaign against a cafe at Woftrax.

Speak to your local pub that sells a beer you like. They should be able to help.

The FC stuffed up the design of the cafe. Don’t think the kitchen is significantly bigger than in the portakabin. The service area is no bigger explaining in part why service is so slow. Compare it to the cafes at Whinlatter or Kirroughtree which have lower customer numbers but much bigger service counters and you can see / understand why GT Peel suffers with service.

Also the cafe is hidden behind the bike shop so unless you know it’s there you’re not going to be tempted in. You couldn’t fail to see the old hub cafe from the car park.

Don’t expect BT to help much. We’re less than 10 miles outside Edinburgh and were getting 2kb/sec. According to BT this is within acceptable performance parameters therefore there is no fault to investigate.

Had this for about 1 month before it reverted back to 4Mb/sec .

Just keep complaining and eventually someone might do something.

Have a look at Exped tents. We’ve got the Andromeda which is very spacious for 2 / cosy for 3. They are approaching Hilleberg prices / quality.

We acquired a Rangemaster Toledo XT (110) with gas hob and electric oven when we bought our house. I would actively avoid buying another.

Gas hob – impossible to simmer – everything boils over
    Plate warmer thing doesn’t work
55cm ovens – some baking trays don’t fit
The grill pan hanging off the oven door inside the oven is stupid, useless and annoys me every time I use it. Uneven heat distribution, poor temperature control, grill handle regularly disengages from the grill pan unless you are really careful so your dinner goes on the floor – just use an oven glove now.
why do you need 6/7 different oven settings – just unnecessarily complicated.

Mistakes / misjudgements happen because human beings are involved and human beings will always make mistakes. Some of us have jobs where the consequences of these errors are minor and insignificant, others have jobs where the consequences can be life changing / ending. To combat this you have to have back up systems but these cost money and each back up system you add has diminishing returns attached to it so at some point it’s not worth adding a back up system to the 1,2 or 3+ systems already in existence.

We all have multiple ways of gaining access to the NHS be it GP, ambulance, A&E, NHS Direct, midwife, community nurse etc. unfortunately if they all make the same / similar mistake / misjudgement (maybe the patient presents atypically). then the consequences can be tragic.

I’ve just received a Cube Warranty replacement frame for a 2011 ltd Comp. They still have 20″ LTD frames for 26″ wheels in a warehouse so would expect they probably still have some 22″ frames too. They’re made of 6061 now rather than 7005 – not sure what difference that will make to what you get and mine had a slightly longer head tube so had to lose a spacer

Don’t expect it to be quick – mine took 6 weeks – they allegedly had some breakdown of communication between the warranty department and the warehouse/distributor with the warranty department claiming they’d told the warehouse/distributor to send out the frame and the distributor claiming never to have received this authorisation – this went on for a month!!

It was also black when I’d been told it was going to be red and white and they won’t pay for the components to be transferred to the new frame so you either have to do it yourself / find a friend or pay a shop to do this.

I wasn’t that impressed with Cubes warranty service so won’t be buying from them again.

Out of interest where did your frame break. On mine all the welds came apart where the seat tube, seat stays and top tube meet.

    Been told off for

Putting dirty clothes in the washing machine – apparently it makes the washing machine dirty!! (It was a normal load not dirty biking kit)

Putting dirty pots in the clean dishwasher

Opening kitchen cupboard doors whilst unloading clean dishes from dishwasher.

Cleaning the car when allegedly I’d agreed to reupholster it!!

Have a look to the north of Edinburgh at Queensferry and places just over the bridges. Fife isn’t all bad!

You’ve not got many options for cycling into Edinburgh, the canal or the road to Kirkliston which is straight/wide and boring. Doesn’t get too busy so it feels pretty safe. I used to find it a slog but other people seemed to like it. Think ERC use it for TT. It would be uphill pretty much all the way home, headwinds were also a common feature. From Kirkliston either drop down to the A89 and head in on the A8 past the airport or go to the A90 and head in that way. There are some cycle tracks/routes of variable quality and directfullness/usefulness near these road routes.

It’s not discrimination. It’s a fairly sensible way to share a limited resource. Treat it more as guidance as to when you’ll have the most enjoyable ride.

You need to go through the retailer you bought the bike from.

Clubby loves his Schwalbe Rapid Robs. I had them on a new bike a while ago and couldn’t find any grip anywhere and absolutely hated them (maybe it’s never dry enough in Scotland). Use Smart Sams now as they’re pretty cheap and never had a problem with them.

Try http://www.craigbraecottage.co.uk or Craigbrae farmhouse http://www.edinburghbedbreakfast.co.uk/vendors/craigbraefarmhouseedinburgh.aspx between Kirkliston and Dalmeny. Fairly remote so views of open fields, possibly views across airport to the Pentlands. Walkable to South Queensferry for bars/restaurants. Recommend the Boathouse or the railbridge for food.

We did it last Tuesday down to Telegraph valley. Was fine, had to walk a couple of short sections as there were a couple of lads doing path maintenance.

Stop worrying about pedal strikes – your pedals can take it and once you’ve got used to your new bike the pedal strikes will stop/reduce.

Not sure how you’re getting pedal strikes on corners? Rock steps I can understand but corners??

I stand corrected. Thanks I’ll look in to doing that then – got to be cheaper than a new wheelset!!

I’ve got the Cube Ltd from 2011. Really wish I’d gone for the next model up with the better fork now.

Love riding the bike – it’s brilliant fun if you’re positive and commit.

mine has the basic shimano hubs which aren’t really serviceable so I will need new wheels soon. I think the SLX are serviceable so you won’t have to buy a whole new wheelset when the hubs are worn out.

The hollowtech II bottom bracket will wear out quicker than the octalink one but it’s only £15 for a new one.

You won’t be dissapointed with either bike but if you use it a lot you may find the more expensive one cheaper to keep going for longer.

    About 10mins is right.

There’s a free drop off you can wait at (not sure how long you’re allowed to wait before they charge you) and your friend will get bussed to it for free or you can pay £1 to use the paid drop off right in front of the terminal (although the charge goes extortionate after 15mins)

Don’t think there is anything to stop you waiting at the free drop off and going for a drive around the airport if you run out of free time before going back. Alternatively you could wait in the Ingliston P&R car park at the top of the airport road / Newbridge village / Ratho station for free until your friend phones to stay he’s escaped passport/customs control.
