Funny enough I have a 6.6 on my desk. In the centre it’s 51mm, it’s 54mm at top and bottom of the intense logo.

Chris, I’ve never met you, but i didn’t feel I could read this thread without posting something. Your decision must have taken some incredible bravery. It certainly puts my day into perspective!

I wish you and your family all the best.

My Hilo is all good. The seal is tighter than a ducks arse which i think causes the wear. Doesn’t leak oil everywhere like my old joplin did.

If it fits, the reverb is miles better though.

I had a joplin that did that, It was like trying to ride an office chair down Jacobs Ladder! I’d find my arse going left and the bike right.

To be fair to 2pure, it hadn’t seen a spanner since i bought it the year before and they swapped it for a new one for a couple of quid.

Every set of mechanical brakes I’ve used required the cable shortening, either through the barrel adjusters or just nipping the brake up with it almost on all the time.

The alternative, and much better solution, is pick up a set of Deore hydros from Merlin etc.

I can’t see it getting used again, so how about £65ish collected from Trafford Park? It’s the high volume, no chips/dings on the shaft, no oil leaks, propedal works.

A mate of mine had the Kashmina RP23 in his Five before moving to a CCDB Air. Previously we though the RP23 was a good shock but having tried the CCDB (and a DHX) the RP23 isn’t in the same league, but that shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

My advice would be save the money on the RP23 and add a bit more to get something really good.

Having said that I have a 200×57 non kashmina RP23 out of a Tracer if you still want to go down that route.

I use it as a picture blog for this image a day thing i’m doing. My 14 year old sister is on it and I get to see all her updates. It’s a complete yawnfest of grainy selfies and her mates commenting guff.

Let Jr use it but add them to an account of your own so you can keep an eye on it if it makes you feel better.

Yeah, then no, then very no… let me explain.

I went from a coil Fox Vanilla to a Dual Air Rockshox Rev, the Rev was either one extreme or the other. Then I went to a Coil Rockshox Lyrik which was ace but I never fully got on with the MiCo Damper. It’s good but you needed to set it for whatever you were going to attack next. Now i’m on a Marzocchi 66 Air and it’s utterly brilliant at everything, with the exception of getting the front wheel out which now requires 5 bolts instead of a QR/Maxel. I ride it in the lakes with the exact same settings as I had in les arcs. I swear I could put some random settings into it and it’d still be the best fork ever.

I think the damper matters more than the spring type.

Cheers wozza, does it work ok with the 120mm travel forks? What travel was the frame designed for?

From new I’d be very surprised if it was more than 80mm, probably more like 60mm. Handles well at 120mm, I wasn’t after making it an XC, arse in the air race machine, so the fork suits it for what I wanted.

A mate has a period late 90s Fire Mountain that had a set of 60mm ish set of bombers on to begin with. We fitted it with some 100mm ish Z1s and it rides much much better.

    Andy R
it’s still a nice bike, apart from the fact that it takes a 27.0mm seatpost, so dropper posts are out.

Thats not true, it can be done. Mine was a 27.0mm post but I got it reamed to 27.2mm and fitted an X Fusion post in there. You’re right about tyre clearance though. Mine has a 2.0 Mud X and i’m not sure anything bigger will fit.

I’ve also got in the loft (Never to be sold) Kona Roast jump frame in XL. It’s made out of meteorites and concrete based on the weight, but it handles pretty well. From what I remember, in XL it’s a bit more like Cove Stiffee geometry. Loved this bike, it was my brothers for a few years and then I had it to replace a snapped susser frame.

Whatever you get, you’ll be happier on a Kona.

I did this to my 1997 Lava Dome. 18″ish frame with 120mm Fox F120s. Rides really well, the extra height slackens the thing out a bit.

I bought it with the disc mount already welded on by argos. Build details with loads of pics and other folks Konas here: Clicky

I’m not sure if it’s what you’re after but I have a 10mm axel conversion on my Intense 66 with Pro 2 Evos. It seems to stiffen up the rear end when hammering it into corners over the 9mm qr.

I needed a new set of hope end caps that easily popped in and out and a 10mm DT skewer. The skewer sits in the drop out and then it has a ratchet end that nips it all up.

I like it, a mate has the same thing on his orange 5 and says it needs it.

Mooseman, replied to your email. Off memory the lower link is the same but I think the upper part is longer.

Khani, I’ll drop you an email about that spyder swingarm to see if I can make a Franken-ense out of my old tracer front end.

Stevied, I don’t think it needs offset bushes, I have a 180mm ATA fork so I can wind it slacker or steeper all day. I like that red of yours, Mines a flat red but a mate has the team red tracer that like a candy colour.

As soon as the bearings need doing though, it’s getting stripped to look like this:

Just got back from there. Did the NF route DH into the visitors centre and the climb out, bit over parka moor and down into sattertwate, over breasty haw and back round to moor top.

Trails are holding up well, they’ve cleared all of the fallen trees that have been stacking up over the last few months.

Forks are sweet, but if it’s anything like when I got my Marzocchis, they’ll be so good it’ll show up the rear shock.

Love the colour with the red stripe detail but that Nukeproof logo on the downtube spoils it a bit.

I like how your comments to the pictures sum up every build i’ve done. There’s ALWAYS something you forget or find half way that stops you getting it finished in an evening!

Intense 6.6 with Marz 66. Pedals uphill ok, but needs the shock setting for a better platform. Down the other side it’s a complete beast.

I have a set of 66 and they’re unbelievably good. So good, that whenever I ride my Fox forks, they feel broken.

They’re heavy but it’s worth it.

I’ve found Halfords to be really useful. It’s almost impossible to pay for sp41 outer in there. Evans however:

I’m after a stem for 25.4 mm bars.
Nearest we have is 110 mm mate.

Yeah, cheers for that mate but i’ll leave it.

In fact have you got any 31.8 bars?
    No mate.
What, you haven’t got any bars in 31.8?
No, we haven’t got any bars, in any size.
