Ah yes, forgot about the mud after skipton. Also, there’s a nice bit from Addingham to Skipton, so Canal > Saltaire > Baildon moor > Ilkley Moor > Addingham > Skipton could be a good start. Hilly though!

Leeds liverpool canal to Gargrave, then lanes/off road would be quite nice? You could prob throw in more ‘not canal path’ (i.e. Baildon/Ilkley moor) to get you to the dales, but found the canal the best way to get out of town quickly. Sounds fun!

Hey Al, I helped set up the charity you are supporting after my sister was diagnosed with a brain tumour. Drop me an email will [@] brainstrust.org.uk with some zombie pics and a bit of background info and we’ll share through our channels too. Thanks so much for helping us, and the people we’re helping. I’ll sponsor you now too. Thank you!

It’s all about the aero. Skinsuit on, head on the floor between legs on the straight, knees and elbows in, guess braking point*

*I have never won a race in my life. Much prefer going sideways.

@edlong sorry, was talking historically pre new buildings etc but I don’t really want to go here. So I will just enjoy the TV programme and be very grateful to whoever may have to pick me and my broken little boat out of the water one day.

I have never, ever stated that I thought they were badly run. Quite the opposite. “Although, I’m interested in how that is meant to work – they can’t have enough reserves to fund ongoing operations forever!” Many grant giving bodies, trusts and foundations do just that and have been running for many generations. Rightly or wrongly (and I believe rightly for the avoidance of doubt) capital investment seems to have been the order of the day (new boats, HQ in Poole, stations etc that will see them in good shape for years to come). The policy seems to be ‘operate to financial scale rather than to demand on service’. An enviable position, and testament to the support and goodwill from the public. I do wonder how much collaboration/distribution of funding there is to the smaller independent inshore operations who are taking on some of the RNLI’s perceived burden.

edlong, there is a ‘c)’ argument I keep hearing in the sector – they’ve done such a good job of fundraising, they don’t really need to any more.

I sold a car through here actually, north of £15k, long-distance, over a bank holiday weekend. It was a bit of a challenge, and I am eternally grateful to the purchaser’s understanding, tolerance and patience, while we worked out how to do this, but the following worked: Small deposit by bank transfer to cover advertising cost (it was also on auto trader) refundable if inspection and test-drive proved unsatisfactory, then photo of banker’s draft emailed over on the Friday. I took photo to local branch of purchaser’s bank to have it verified, then toddled off down the A1 on the Sunday for test-drive/exchange, a cuppa and a train ride home.

Or bring an office move to Leeds into your planning, something to ‘aspire’ to, factoring in a requirement for increased revenue? It’s then a goal everyone can enjoy working towards and attaining?

12 months ago we made the decision to put some of our team into 700sqft office central Leeds, the option of working here has made recruitment easier.

How does reframing the scenario work for you, basing decisions on fulfilment and meeting outgoings rather than meeting or building on current income? Will your outgoings drop as you get older (i.e. build capacity for a change in direction?)

I used Winstons for a commercial property transaction and would highly recommend. It will be down to the individual at the company handling your case though.

Everything’s heavy with 200kg of crew.

Yep! It’s been an eye opener how important build is in going fast in small boats.

Picked up a 49er after a 16 year break from racing dinghies seriously. Hooked again. Steep learning curve but incredible bang for buck. we’ve put in about 20 hours on the water in the last 12 months and can just about get round a course… Hoping to be back racing again end of the summer.

There seems to me to be something about the way the british (particularly those who come through British Sailing) go about racing that makes it painful and exciting to watch in equal measure – always make it hard at the beginning and then thrive on the fight to keep the points down (or up?!) at the end. Here’s hoping this is what we’ve got with BAR… boat speed/handling perhaps not consistent enough though to beat THE CYCLORS…

Goslings, ice, ginger beer and lime at the ready. I really hope BAR can make it through, or failing that Artemis. Nice to see a thread here – sailing anarchy is a tad vitriolic.

Sorry my post was ambiguous, it wasn’t the 3 kids that wouldn’t fit, it was their 3x car seats that were a very tight squeeze. newborn, 2yo and 4yo. We could have put one in the back, but then no room for dog and bags… I was disappointed, a well-specced touran looked a very nice place to be.

Reluctantly accepted DSG in a 2.0 petrol octavia and was pleasantly surprised. We replaced this with a 7 seater. I wanted the Touran, but kids wouldn’t fit across the back, and no boot space with the 2 rear seats up. Could you go and drive one?

So sorry to hear this. I work for these guys, set up after my Sister went through similar. We may be able to help. http://Www.brainstrust.org.uk I hate the word ‘benign’, the impact is always so far from so.

Interviews can easily become a script – you ask a question, prospective candidate tells you want they think you want to hear. Assuming you can sift/assess competency at CV and letter stage, then you can quickly test that candidate can do what they can say they can, and then an assessment of team fit/value add at interview. I have found, ‘what will your first 100 days look like’ to be good, and one that sadly stumps far too many people, ‘tell us about a recent time when you were kind to someone at work’.

There is a scheme where you can make a donation to Shelter and an Architect will come and see you for an hour. Win win? I can’t find anything recent online, but friends have just this month used the scheme. Perhaps a call to Shelter to see if they’ve an Architect signed up near you?

Blue Lagoon? Pah. You want to find the Brown Pond.

Perhaps a bit more helpful, there’s a fantastic walk/ride north from Hveragerði taking in natural hot springs and stinky steam.

There might be a relevant mintel report which may help. I think if you are a student/academic you can access these FOC through your institution.

66% of these bikes are 5010s[/url]. I think mine is a wonderful thing… half bmx, half cross country thing, and er half V10.

Just picked one of these up for the 3 mile pootle into work and back and associated ‘would you mind just picking up…’. Enjoy it so much its remit has been expanded to include ‘bike rides to places with the kids’, where the other bike was just a bit silly. Fitted with a rack/pannier for picnics or work crap. The indexing on the nexus 3 spd hub makes sprinting out of the (21 sets of) lights on the way to work er… exciting, and hopping off a kerb with a coaster brake in front of a queue of traffic? LOL.

Oh dear. Sorry to hear this. I think there’s a lot of this going on in the area at the moment, we had a targeted theft a couple of months back (expensive tools and cheaper bikes left behind), as did a neighbour. Both of us had our sheds opened very carefully, to the point where it was almost like these scrotes didn’t want to cause offence. The theory I heard (from EBC actually) was that there’s a container somewhere being filled up with nice bikes for shipping abroad… No sign of bikes, or parts at local shops/ebay/gumtree etc. Anyway, might be worth North Leeds people being extra security conscious…

Head angle, and length of rear end are as important as top tube length. You want at least 21″, the rest depends on what you are riding. If you want to go fast and jump bigger stuff (trails, less technical park) then slacker and longer. For street riding/flatland etc then 21″ TT, but consider with steeper head angle and short back end. Bottom bracket height is also a consideration, and a matter of personal preference – you’ll know from rolling around on the bike. I jumped off the BMX bandwagon when jeans got tight and bikes started getting short, steep and a bit crashy on the trails. Also … brakes. Do you want one? or two? Or none? That bike pictured above doesn’t have one. It also doesn’t have lugs for one, or cable stops. Can you fit them? HTH.

ETA – just seen you say bmx track, and it’s got a brake. Long low slack and fast could be best, with a big gear. Prob like what you had in ’88.

I’m sure he has lost his SB foil, but I’m not sure that you could prove it from the footage. It’ll be interesting to see the stump

My thought was whether the bow would be burying so much if he had the lift from a stbd foil
