The Mcenroe/Holmes discussion last night was utterly appalling. At least Michael Johnson had the good sense to keep quiet about something he didn’t understand. Mcenroe and Holmes floundered about “If they were so far up the road why didn’t they just catch them up?” or something similar. Even a non cyclists could see that they had no clue. Why they were even asked or expected to give an informed opinion is beyond me.
The BBC coverage of sport has been dire for a number of years now. I watched an hour of coverage yesterday on the big screen in Manchester and didn’t actually see any sport. They just kept nattering about sport. Wimbledon is the same, they sit in a studio and tell you what matches are being played and then talk about a match that has already been played. How about showing a match!
Post event interviews are just “how does it feel” “describe the emotion” and several other variations. “You must be happy to have won, how happy are you?”

Some views on a thread a few months back. There are other phones for a little more that are much better in my opinion. The Galaxy S2 can be had for a little more and is way better and there are some great deals on the iPhone 4. T-Mobile is doing it for £26 with ridiculous minutes and unlimited internet if you can find stock for example.

I was around Mam Tor and foolishly skirted the edge of Ladybower yesterday. Anywhere that wasn’t rocky was a swamp.

I have given up on the summer, I have my fingers crossed for a cold winter with lots of clear crisp days. Where do I want the jet stream to be for that?

Oh yeah, the Decathlon in Stockport also had a couple of Camelbak Mules for £49.99 which seems a reasonable price as well.

They only had the black ones in stock though.

It is very small, which is part of the reason I bought one. I still managed to get the essentials in; pump, spare tube, tyre levers, puncture kit, multi tool, couple of spare chain links, led flashers, windproof jacket, spare base layer/storage for a layer if I get hot, couple of gels, couple of chocolate bars (boost/starbar), bag of dried fruit, bag of jelly babies, bank card, £10 note, mobile phone, keys.

I seem to drink a lot when I’m out on the bike and 2L was never enough. I always took another 750ml bottle with me anyway.

The Decathlon in stockport has about 30 of these on display still priced at £29.99 and they are the 2012 design with the new reservoir.

Mine is anodised black with silver finish on the top tube. It’s this silver that has become horribly scratched already. It’s caused by silly things like the zips on my shorts scuffing it when I manoeuvre it out of my front door.

heh two wildly differing opinions on the paint. Weird. To be fair on mine it is the silver finish that has become all scratched, the black hasn’t.

I have the XC 9 and it’s a great bike. Works well for my riding in the Peak District.
I have found a few minor niggles in the 8 months I have owned it. For example the paint scratches and wears if you so much as look at it. It does give the bike that lived in feel I guess with all the nicks and scratches 😐
Also the cable routing is a bit suspect, at least for UK riding. The cables supplied were also the cheapest of the cheap and I have just replaced mine and the front X0 shifter which had a badly worn ratchet as a result of cable friction (and my lazyness also I suspect). Luckily SRAM replaced the shifter under warranty.
The problem is the routing to the front mech comes under the bottom bracket and then up through the frame through a hole which is not sealed and just collects water and all manner of crap.
I guess you just need to be super on the ball about cable maintenance and cleaning.

Those minor niggles aside I find it works really well, just point it up a path and pedal and it gets you to the top with no fuss and equally I have had no issues with chucking it down a rocky descent.

Mr Thomas’ Chop House for pub food, Goucho for steak, The Northern Quarter Restaurant is brilliant for a classic menu. The Grill on The Alley does great steaks and decent fish. Zouks Tea Bar and Grill if you want a curry.

I’m going to check out that Spanish suggestion above as I was not aware of it.

Record the route with mytracks. Go to the tracks section, select and hold the route > play.

*edit* if you want you can export the route as .gpx or.kml for use with Google earth as well.

Is removing the large chain ring and replacing it with a bash guard and just adjusting the limit screws considered silly? I never use the large ring and I have broken a couple of teeth on it so its a bit annoying.
SRAM X0 22-33-44 is it even possible?

We have loads of hedgehogs at my parents house and around the close generally. Noisy buggers but guests love to see them. I am still surprised when I find out people haven’t seen a live hedgehog before 🙂

I have been thinking about this myself. After a hard ride I can find myself consuming silly amounts of food but I think that is just too much. I would be interested to know what volume that all takes up if blended.

Sounds like they probably need bleeding. It can be a bit fiddly but its worth being patient and doing a proper job. My X0s have a really nice firm feel but allow progressive braking. I couldn’t pull the levers to the bar if I tried.

I have been considering doing this to my Nerve XC (SRAM X0) but have no useful information to give you unfortunately. I came into this thread hoping there would be some 🙂

Todays ongoing deluge in Manchester and Lancashire really is horrendous though. Glad I made it out on Wednesday.

I went out today 😕 It was ok as I was in the mindset that I was going to get soaked, until I had 2 flats in quick succession. The last one in a very exposed location. I was shivering so hard I could hardly control my bike after that and decided to call it a day. Had to ride back to Stockport in a driving wind as well 🙁
The tow paths around Marple are terrible. Almost one continuous puddle and the River Goyt is very high as well.

It’s absolutely chucking it down here. I’m already passed the starting to get annoyed and am honestly starting to feel down about the whole situation. It’s just constant grey days and rain, and I work in a building with no windows to top it off 🙁

Will keep an eye out. Another reported theft in Stockport. Thats what, 3 high end thefts in the last week?

Ok, thanks. It’s probably worth me getting some lights. I wont be coming out tonight as I am off to see a nice lady friend.

Always people in this area willing to take others out 🙂 I like it. I’m yet to join any of you guys, but I will at some point.

BTW I’m on that mailing list the nbt mentioned. How long do you guys stay out since I don’t have a working set of lights at the moment except some LED flashers for my commute.

They better go through. I have been working during the last two matches and again for this one. I would like to at least have a chance to watch one England game.

Is it this sort of noise?
    (not my video)
I have the same forks as you and they made that noise when new. They went to Mojo for a service and the rebound damper was replaced. No idea if it was related or not. They still make some noise but no where near as much.

Its hard for me to tell if its normal or not as its my first pair of Fox Forks as well.

A couple of thefts in this area recently. Hope its just coincidence and not something a bit more organised.
I’ll definitely keep an eye out.

Mine lasted 6 months and I replaced it with another GXP thinking it was maybe just a duff unit. If the new one lasts a similar time then I will probably replace it with a Hope.

You could probably get an S2 for not much more money I would have thought. The Desire is a good phone. Its biggest flaw is the lack of internal storage for apps. I had to install a custom ROM on mine to make it more usable.

I work in retail and always call people back when I say I will. Inevitably someone will take a message for me during a busy period in the shop and then it gets misplaced, or a number gets taken down incorrectly.
For all you know they are really frustrated and concerned that they are losing a sale because of a misplaced message.
It’s annoying but mistakes can happen.
