Had a Wheels Manufacturing press fit BB fitted for over a year now; no creaks, well sealed, not changed the bearings and still running well.

The best bit is that it is an aluminium cup so, once PF’d into the frame (I have a carbon frame) there is stays and you just change the cartridge bearing the same as a headset.

Ideal bike imo – I smash mine around the steepest EWS stuff of the Tweed Valley and it’s ace so will be fine on the PDS route, especially with 150mm up front!

Or buy it from your LBS and then they might help when you can’t get it set up tubeless

Thanks Tom, that’s actually on my list! Does it auto pause and is it waterproof?

It doesn’t auto-pause as such but when you download the file it gives you total time and moving time. There is a manual pause if you are stopping for a coffee. It is fully waterproof.

TomTom Multisport – often on great offer on Sport Pursuit and i am well impressed. Easy to use, syncs with things like strava and holds lock even in dense trees. Awesome.

Yep; upped mine from 130 to 140mm with a £27 airshaft from CRC – the mechanical bit to swap it is a wee bit fiddly for the final curclip fitting!

Doesn’t fit on a Santa Cruz 5010 Mk2!! You need a good couple of inches between the lower bottle cage bolt and the seat tube for the bottle to slide down onto it’s slots.

I’ve been a total XT whore but have just got Hope Tech3 V4. Amazingly different. In a good way.
Exactly this. I’d not used Hopes in years and was a little nervous but so far they have exceeded the standard set by various Shimanos. the Tech 3 V4’s offer massive power but have great modulation so better control. I also quite like the chunky manufactured look and they feel solid

As Adam said. I love the modulation and reliability of Hope, plus their awesome service if any issues.

I have SLX and no issues, the XTs are not the same. For all those that insist on saying it must be the bleed etc, do be brief – i do nothing different between the slx and xt yet the XTs are so inconsistent they are dangerous. They have gone back to Madison. The latest mbr also refers to inconsistent bite point for a set of XTRs, something is wrong somewhere.

If only someone from Shimano read this! Madison have been good to take a look at mine and will let you know what they say. The only way they might acknowledge there is an issue (and with this many people having issues i cant believe its just incompentence of bleeding) is if everyone sends them back. I am changing as i just dont feel safe using them currently so I’ll see what they say…

Am about to hit ‘buy’ on a set of Hope X2s, that should solve the problem!

I am sending this thread to Madison on Facebook and see what they have to say…. I almost had a horrendous crash today as pulled the brakes to stop rapidly and nothing happened… to have to pump the brakes in advance of when I need them is not right!

Exactly the same with XTs, really dangerous! No matter how many times I bleed it (and I’m a mechanic). Back to Hopes very soon!

By the time you get one the 2017 model will be out! Some real horror stories about Canyon right now so beware..

Either the Sweet Protection Air or the Keela Saxon; used both and both are bloody brilliant, just depends on what features you want. With a proper layering system underneath this is the max I have needed over two Scottish winters.

The 5010 lower linkage looks like it would catch a lot of crud.

It did, until I adapted a Tweedlove freebie mudguard which now keeps it pretty clean. Plus the bearings are well sealed and pretty hidden so should last; 2 months of a very wet Scottish winter so far and no issues with sticking bearings or stiff linkages. Time will tell.

I have just got the 5010C and have been blown away by it, a real true all rounder straight out the box. But, I did test ride a T-129 and was really impressed and a few folk ride Whyte’s around me and are all loving them (and lifetime bearing warranty is a major plus for the UK). A really tough choice – do you want to pay an extra £1000 for the SC…, that’s a trip to some alps singletrack with the Whyte..

But:

Absolutely #BloodyBrilliant on woodland trails such as the Tweed Valley, does need to be bright-ish though.

We used this WeeRide for our wee boy and he loved it – can see whats happening, you can talk to them, you can see how cold they might be getting and in the event of a crash at least you can put your arms around them and take the hit yourself!

hainman, if you can wait few days we have a container full of Maxxis Tyres on the road. Tyres should be with us shortly, Maxxis Shorty included.

:D nice, they seem to be pretty rare!

Love the new 5010v2 – increased the Pikes to 140mm and it’s perfect for almost everything. The shelf can collect mud etc but I have adapted one of the wee flexible black mudguards that I got from a Tweedlove race and that protects it really well :-) Really plush and you would never know it’s ‘only’ 130mm out back. Noticably stiffer at the rear and the new shorter chainstays / longer top tube now means I fit a large (6ft), just like I would in any other bike brand!

If you plan on wearing it either on the bike or it’s likely to get wet then synthetic is the way ahead; when it gets wet down clumps up and a lot of the insulation is lost.

Sweet Protection Mudrides are the nutz, the thick material on the seat is great against the Scottish grit! If Stif don’t have them, you can still get them here (but only in limited sizes): https://shop.sweetprotection.com/sp_uk/mountain-bike/technical-clothing/mudride-shorts

Found sizing to be generous – 6ft, 32″ waist and I wear a medium.

Vaults if you have the cash, Nukeproof otherwise. Got both and they are both awesome with my 5Tens.
