Id say by saying apart from weight you are taking 90% of the decision out of the equation. Carbon is all about weight (in my head anyway!)

my mojo sl was deffo bought on achievable weight. That it is also stiffer than the equiv weight Alu is an added benefit 🙂

Not change much, pick a different group of freshers week friends that i might actually have something in common with, not just a bunch of people who lived on the same corridor but i never really connected with. Oh and worked a bit harder in second year (yes those are the results you are applying to employers with ! )

lots of fisik retailers do demo saddles which allows you to sort which one you want out of the range.

I demo’ed one of the new kurve ones and it is a revelation, so smooth and comfy. practically no road vibration and just pick your shape, lots of £££ though!

Another vote for trailaddiction, esp their backcountry weeks in lesarcs if you are more xc biased.
    or try Destination X 🙂

    Mojo SL rider here:

really really sweet bike, fast as anything, my fairly normal build is about 26lbs without trying too hard and has been ragged all over the uk and alps. Have run it with both 140mm front and 160mm and both are great, more of an xc bike with 140, more of a hooligan with 160mm (obviously!)

Mud clearance is ‘not brilliant’ once you have a good bit of chainstay protection going on and 2.35 highrollers (which are quite small really) however never actually been a problem for me. Could do a pic if you really want?

the only other comment id make is how heavier are you and how agressive are you? I am only 10.5 st but a pretty aggressive DH’er I do notice some very minor flex. if you are heavier than me and still corner hard you might be better off with something stiffer (maybe the SL-r?). (this is compared to a turner 5 spot for instance which i couldnt budge but the frame weight saving is massive!)

A delicate question but is she finding the ‘big O’ when you do get down to it?

they tend to get what all the fuss is about once you get to that point

My GF did scotland with just heavily loaded rear panniers and had all sorts of problems in terms of an unweighted front end.

messy handling and impossible to push the bike as it constantly falls over because if it starts to fall the front end comes off the ground when you try and stop it. Make sure you get at least a heavy bar bag but better 4 panniers even if you have extra room

    IMO

I was thinking about this just this morning as it happens.

    I would like to do:
Lionheart http://www.thelionheart.co.uk/ (probably just the 100k)
    Wilts white horse http://www.whitehorsechallenge.com/

    and maybe something in may

    All in preperation for:

Road bike, train to somewhere about 150+ miles away and get yourself home, its a commitment mechanism 🙂

Go with a bean to cup or a Nespresso depending on budget. ground coffee machines make such a mess that you have to be really keen to be bothered to do that in the morning, you will just end up with instant all the time.

I find it makes a large difference to what climbs i can get up and how much energy i expend doing it.
esp noticable on the single speed as there are climbs i can do no problem with SPD that i cant get up on flats.

I do however like to swap back to flats every so often for a bit of skills brush up and a bit of ‘foot out flatout’ cornering 🙂

🙁 feels bad about making ade feel like i am trolling.

I am pretty sure i read a review mentioning diving back in the day and the people I’ve talked to who rode them have mentioned it. I do accept that i never rode one and as such my thoughts can be ignored!

Sorry for any offense ade and im sure you do know a whole world more than me on the subject. Would love to hear more about the design process and if there is some anti-dive going on in it.

Out of interest who has read millar’s book and armstrongs books?

they have both informed my opinions on the people involved and on the less than black and white nature of good guys and villans.

In my opinion Lance didnt do drugs but certainly did ‘recovery’ injections. As the most focused on and tested athelte i see very little opportunity for him to do drugs and not have tested positive (i cant remember the full details of te supposed ‘cover up positive’ but im inclined not to believe it)

Would point you towards the cannondale synapse range. About as comfy as a fast road bike gets and designed to do everything you mention. They consistently get good write Ups and although sometimes don’t have the best components for the money are a quality frame that is reasonable value and worthy of upgrades.

I would go terra nova having had a quasar and a voyager XL. Pricy but good quality and excellent uk repairs service if needed.

(ps voyager XL really is excellent for bike touring for two)

“A welfare trap is an example of the perverse incentive: the welfare recipient has an incentive to avoid raising his own productivity because the resulting income gain is not enough to compensate for the (increased) work effort”

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Welfare_trap

Get rid of high paying benifits full stop they trap people in the benifits system. It should be hard to live on benifits and you should ALWAYS be better of working. any system that doesnt manage that is not functioning correctly. (disability excluded)

Got round to getting boots sorted yesterday. Took the missions back to decathalon and ‘did it properly’ at snow and rock Chertsey.

I didnt realise my feet were quite that awkwardly wide! Ended up in tecnica dragon 100 (the widest) and then had custom footbeds and a bit of heatgun on the shell to widen them even more as they were squeezing me quite a bit. Really happy with them and can’t wait to hit the slopes Sunday. 🙂

Thanks all (and flashy) for the advice.

can you go to a supplier of another product?

Ie as an IT consulting firm offering services for microsoft databases we tend to butter up microsoft to find out who they have sold a DB to.

that kind of thing an option?

(before anyone has a go, its like getting blood from a stone and needs long term relationships!)

oh and also find a relevant conference and sponsor/ run a competition to gather emails

Wide rims for the win 🙂
