I`d take that (rightly or wrongly) as “jump before you are pushed”

+1 friend of mine was told by senior manager to say this in a performace review. I was quite concerned that my mate was being stitched up too; turns out it’s just how they operate!

my brother sold me a bike. on the cheap. i didn’t realise it was cheap at the time – only when i came to sell it three years later and sold it for more.

At the time it might have been my third bike – but was probably what got me in to MTB properly. So all this is his fault. I might go and complain!

Very rarely ride really technical off-road but riding much more trails and tracks now but want something I could test when needed. Thinking Salsa Fargo or something like that.

that makes me think you want a CX/ adventure bike and deal with the offroad bits. rather than a fargo a drop bar mtb and suffer the road bits.

with your needs i’d buy a arkose/ datum or similar.

more than 8days in a calendar year gets you a warning (unless you find you have one of a limited list of actual diseases) and another day off sick in the next 12months would see you on the verge of dismissal.

I’d be out then. Last jan was two weeks recovery from tumour removal then 4.5 weeks radio therepy.

I guess it’s my own fault – didn’t catch the cancer I actually grew it myself!

It really doesn’t matter. Just go and remember your friend.

I don’t have a black suit, last couple of family funerals i’ve been to neither did most people – even amongst the octogenarians – trousers and a jacket seemed the concensus.

Once went to my great aunts ‘no black funeral.’ Me in chinos and a green tie, dad & brother in similar; mum in pink, gran in orange. They’d changed the no black and never informed us! Every other person was in full black. Stood out a bit! Too add fully brand this memory in the mind, it was the first time i’d been to a burial, the rain was biblical and the service was in hebrew.

Imagine what it would be like if the jury was composed of STWers.

Similar to if it was made of Wu Tang fans?!

the court: All right. I’m going to excuse you. Juror Number 59, come on up.

juror no. 59: Your Honor, totally he is guilty and in no way can I let him slide out of anything because —

the court: Okay. Is that your attitude toward anyone charged with a crime who has not been proven guilty?

juror no. 59: It’s my attitude toward his entire demeanor, what he has done to people.

the court: All right. We are going to excuse you, sir.

juror no. 59: And he disrespected the Wu-Tang Clan.

used to enjoy it more when i had more time.

shame as i have a much nicer workspace now.

I cleaned the chain on my (fixed wheel) commuter last weekend; i’m not convinced that it had been done since the chain was replaced in 2013.

bike rides so much eaier that i need to put a bigger gear on

not to be blunt but just ask him.

Fancy a beer, or a coffee? I’ve got some photos of my ferrari/ bike/ kids/ 25 YO girlfriend/ chocolate lab/ coffee machine/ log burner/ STW forum activity page [delete as appropriate] if you wanna see?

any thoughts on my dilema (nice one to have).

I’m currently riding a salsa vaya with a really nice (and light) build of old 9 speed stuff – dura ace & ultegra and it works really well – frame is not ideal for CX so i’m looking to change something.

I was toying with swapping frames – my original thought was cheap chinese carbon. FLYXII 603 for £250.

However in my browsing i have also been looking at other chinese carbon – up to £400. Ican or deng fu. no idea wheter these are better than the cheaper flyxi.

But i could buy a caadx bike – tiagra or 105

I don’t really want tiagra 10speed (feel that dura ace ultgra 9sp will proably be nicer and definately lighter) but i do like the frame colour.
11speed 105 seems like an upgrade over old 9 speed.

    Sorry for the rambling!

even O-O stick the brake hose out of the way

whoa there. I was with you on the BTR thing. but i have to call you out on this.

I’ve had inbred 26 & 29, 456, scandal & a pompino. Only the 26 inbred had all the right cable guides in the right place. The rest of them are all rubbish.

early 30s = no weekends it’s all stag dos and weddings.

not complaining. but there’s lots of other things to do.

In the winter the only people who invite me out are cyclists. in the summer it’s bbqs and the like. Normal people stay inside and eat roast dinners in winter (i think).

I think it would be Terry Waite for me, difficult to tell given the time involved.

    me too.

born in 84 so i am too young to remember the kidnapping (would have been 2 YO) but i seem to remember months/ years of him on the news ‘about to be released’ – perspective/ memory are funny things though; could have been a week. He was released just before my 7th birthday.

I definatley remember john major taking opver as PM, that was near my 6th birthday.

then it only takes a bit of a change in staff for it all to go downhill,

small enough that the owner has his hands on the tools helps.

my mechanic is really good. But just like the LBS i’m not convinced the phoneline can do outgoing calls!

went for 50% (ish) and 3×5 instead of 3×5. if felt easy but i’m definatley sore this morning – not so much that it’ll impact on tomorrows bike session – which is what i was concerned about.

I need to get some riding in to tackle the Ridgway double before the summer ends

does it have to be one or the other?

Had a cheap bike fit with a guy who was completely unaccredited & had no fancy gadgets bar a few inclinometer type things to measure knee angles etc.

He had years of experience & 100s of fits under the belt. I think I trust this more than a young upstart. Unfortunatly I don’t think he’s doing it any more!

Took several hours and explained everything including what I could adjust in the future if I wished.

This was my second road bike and I was having lots of knee issues. I’d been moving the saddle but doing it all wrong. I was very happy with the results.

I haven’t had one since but I’d certainly go if I felt the need.

Felt okay at the time but I think i’m going to have to do my poos standing up today

    LOL.

I’m worried now. back on the weights tonight for first time in ~6 weeks! 8O

A missed workout, a heavy bike week, tapering, recovery, sickness have been my reasons/ excuses.

Thinking a 50% deload would be appropriate. any thoughts?

    definatley report it.

but tales of lots of close passes is not my experience – and i’m local too. There are these idiots you meet once in a while – i like to think of them as the sort of people who pick a fight in a pub. they’re agressive and i want nothing to do with them.

don’t let their anger spoil your day.

if we, as cyclists want to be treated as humans, we need to obey all the laws, have fit for purpose bikes and be visible.

If this guy represents cyclist then does Jimmy Saville represent men?

I don’t behave like either of them, and i’m not sure i should be punished for either of their law breaking.

How competitive are the regional races?

i’m a reasonable rider but i’m definatly near the back in CX (never DFL though) but as above there is always some one to race/ hang on to. I’m hooked.

all of this is basically accessible from day one.

I’d never done a mount/ dismount until my first race.

lots of good encouragement from spectators too. Genuinely positive encouragement on my first race for an early dismount and a wide line to let the top two come through; silly but i was really chuffed; felt like i was doing a good job (even in second to last!)

Reach and stack are important for standing size. ETT & stack for seated.

For me I’m fussy with stack height- as I don’t like a high front end. Most of my bikes have neg rise stems & slammed.

Best bet is compare with some bikes you are currently riding.
