Can’t say I’ve ever searched YouTube for jazz, however I’ve got a pretty extensive collection of Jazz, Coltranes’ and One Down, One Up live at the Half Note is simply brilliant as his rendition of Nature Boy in a Columbia collection.

Modern stuff, well Avishai Cohen and Joshua Redman were both stunning live. Keith Jarrett, naturally, and the Swedish group EST.

Random stuff every one should listen to: JFK Quintet and The Jazz Crusaders, live at the Lighthouse

Excellent, whatever works for you. Stick at it.

Most hotel pools are small though, even in 30 minutes that’s a lot of lengths!

Never used them but Chris Eatough is meant to be well recommended:

You underestimate the power that a new bike can have 😀

Nice bike, be worth it when it does, just make sure your legs are up to it!

It depends on what sort of events you are entering

correct, big miles are great if you’re planning on doing 6 hour + events, less so if you’re doing XC over 90 minutes.

As has been said, total miles, and total time spent training are two “old fashioned” ways to measure training, they are useful but not all sessions are equal in intensity.

must have been a long race.

Swedish marathon champs, 75km in unusually warm conditions meant 4 and half hours of suffering for a measly 15th place

    The-Swedish-Chef

That utterly destroyed after a race and now have a 5 hour drive home look!

+1 for the San Andreas, had nothing in common with my riding style but it was completely left-field when it arrived in the UK

Went for a 12km run at lunch, zero degrees and blowing a gale in Göteborg, however there is no snow or ice on the ground there, unlike where I live, so it makes interval training a lot safer.

There was a tiny ad in the back of a very early MBUK for an Overbury’s that had an Ultegra 600 rear mech, huge drop from the top of seat post to the downtube, ridiculously narrow bars (in today’s terms), and super long 150 stem.

That was the definition of XC cool for many a year.

Would love to see that again and do a double take!

Right success! It seems you don’t need the user name and password for the internet connection in both the modem and router settings.

By removing them in the router I now have access.

Pat on the back to imnotamused and somouk, happy riding vibes to you.

Again yup, internet light on the router is green OK

Yup there is a cable between the two boxes and I’ve tried a couple of different ones to be sure. Thanks

I grew up riding the South Downs in the late 80’s early 90’s when those bikes Mint and gang rode were in vogue.

I still picture the perfect ride in the same hues as the cartoon, and can visualise where along the ridge most of the views are inspired from.

How do you make your living? I work for a small consultancy, and am currently working for Volvo Penta as an Enterprise Architect. I also run training courses in various tools and methodologies within the Enterprise Architect area.

Are you happy doing it? Very much so, especially the training courses as I get to travel around the Nordics and meet a whole bunch of motivated people

Would you consider a change of career? Nope, not considering one currently

Does it pay enough for you to MTB comfortably? It pays well enough for me to race a full CX and XC season. Although one doesn’t move from the UK to Sweden for the wage.

Google “brick” training. Also look at your cadance in the last 10 minutes of the bike, there was something thought on matching it to your run cadance. Out and about now so can’t reference it, but again Google Joe Friel for all things tri and training

    Will your insurance cover it?

Hope so but worth checking. Car insurance is only for the car and fittings, not the contents.

I started on those Elite ones, they were OK, felt a bit plastic but perfect for getting started.

I sold them and upgraded to the Elite ones with resistance in, again they are a little plastic but I’m able to train on them with a 42*11 max gearing on my CX bike and generate enough watts to give me a solid workout. (6w/kg)

Not sure what how effective the parabolic shape is, but as a warning signal to move to centre they are very good.

    Ride more cobbles Njee 😆

Well their policy is to replace the item with one of equal or better quality. Seeing as they don’t make the ssl in 2013, hence I got a 2012 model, I’m not sure what would happen if this one goes snap.

It does mean that I rode a good part of a national champs race with a cracked frame and did not notice. So much for carbon exploding/shattering and resulting in certain death

I use the Elite Arion parabolic rollers, I’ve not bothered with TrainerRoad as I use a PowerTap to measure my efforts.

I find them good to use, not too hard to get started and plenty of resistance. They are quite plastic though, although it looks like they have changed design a little for 2013

Craft or Santini for well priced ones.

My Rapha knee warmers are very nice so I’d assume their leg warmers are also.

Before long early morning sessions, running and cycling, I’ll eat two slices of brown bread with honey and a banana, plus coffee.

Provided you’re eating well normally, (and I guess you are if you’re halfway through CC TCC programme), then you should be OK. Porridge is fine but generally gives a slow release of energy which is maybe why you feel OK after an hour or so.

Coffee, strong coffe is the answer, and eating well the night before

Yes, once set up, (front hub over the front roller), then you can just hop on a cycle away.

There is another thread on here RE: singlespeeds and rollers.

Do you need a cleaner or live-in bike mechanic?

Nope, sadly not, although I’ll need a builder/carpenter in a few months when the snow has gone

A lot of it seems to be tradition, meaning the Euro’s ride tubs and a lot of new world riders have gone with tubeless.

Dugast tubs are nice, very soft and supple, more so than any tubeless I’ve tried. They can also be ridden flat, which is excellent for XC racing as it allows you to get back to the tech area and change.

Hmm, some nice eclectic gear on this thread, lovely.

Yes I live in Sweden, in a forest.

The Focal’s were quite outstanding speakers but could be bright if partnered badly. Matched to the Unico and the Copland they were brilliant, however a sub 8KG cross bike and tubs were needed…….

Wow pictures of a British summer, makes me wonder what the course would have been like wet!

That Look is pig ugly, that Scot in OP is lovely, and I spent at least 8 hours of last year’s race season seeing the back of one of those damn Specilaized’s, so that’s off the list as well.

Clearly a XC bike needs Dugast tubs, minimal handlebar furniture, and a negative rise stem.

The problem with running the same route day in day out is that after a few months you won’t get any fitter.

You need to train the body to react to different paces and distances, the body does a brilliant job at adapting to regular exercise and then the benefits just vanish.

Agree it takes a while, (years), to build up to big weekly distances without doing long term damage. However you don’t need big miles to run long distnaces fast.

Nikolaj og Julie was OK for Danish trash, although like Swedish dramas the pool of actors to choose from is quite small, so the same faces keep reappearing in different roles again and again
