I find it quite handy. I don’t use any features other than being able to see where the trails are and their names when your in that area. Saves getting my phone out.

The app hasn’t been updated in years.

I just followed the instructions in the manual which to be fair were very good compared to other manufacturers.

I think folk are too quick to carry the bike and I used to do this a lot in these situations but have found pushing the thing to be easier on the body. The bike is then taking its own weight.

Granted there’s the odd occasion where you need to carry it but I find that’s only very very steep rock scrambles/steps

You trade the bike taking its own weight for the slight awkwardness of pushing over rocks etc but with good timing and line choice it’s not that bad I find

I do this so over all over the lakes and have no bother. I’m sure I pushed all the way up Nan Bield. If not it was just that very last 100 metres or so.

Give it a try next time? Granted I’m not a 63kg female with spine problems but I’m sure pushing more will be easier for you.

Did you get the spacing even on the axle ends when servicing the hub?

The hub axle could be protruding further than the thickness of the dropout on one or both sides which means the QR clamps to the axle instead of the frame.

You can check this by measuring the thickness of the dropout versus the axle that protrudes from the end of the cone locknuts. If that makes sense!

Yes. Get over yourself and get a bum bag with hydration bladder. 😂

I too was sceptical and mocked a mate with one until I begrudgingly tried it one day. Bought one the day after and use it all the time now. Surprising what you can cram in the as well as the water.

would an ordinary rider notice the change if you added the coil and link as this thread is making thnk about investing on the link?

I wouldn’t like to say but my experience of the dpx on the stock link was a constant fiddling of settings. You’d think you’d got it then another ride it would feel off again… Rinse and repeat.

With the dpx and cc link, at first I think I felt a difference but the fiddling soon started.

Couple months later bought the coil and first run it felt amazing. Have barely touched it from that initial setup.

For context I’m no top end racer but I do like to push on and can get down most stuff pretty quickly… Say top third if and when I do a race and I put some effort in 😂

Again to praise the Rockshox Super Deluxe ultimate. The climb switch is really good. Near enough locks it out.

I did the “I’ll see what the link is like with the dpx” thing for a few months…

Don’t bother. Just get a coil straight away.

Link and coil instantly transform the bike into what it should of been.

I’ve got the newer Rockshox Super Deluxe on mine. It’s a 205×57.5 trunnion. Great shock by the way…

There is a couple of month wait on them at the moment(from the distributer) unless you find someone with stock.

Dear all, I travel 70 miles a day to work, 4 days a week and have the option of a lease vehicle but it has to be electric.
A complication is we are in a terrace with no driveway.

You are the nation’s guinea pig sir…

It’s the big question of can an electric car work despite living in terraced housing and then using random, unreliable and expensive chargers?

Honestly though. They aren’t giving you a choice? It has to be electric? Does this include hybrid or not?

For trekking style bikes I’d say don’t stress over the motor too much.

We never see any of the Yamaha or Bosch bikes, we sell, back for any motor problems. They don’t take the punishment an MTB does so seem to last.

It’s the slop, washing and crank bashing that kills MTB motors.

Mezcal is a good tyre. Rolls really well for what it is.

I’ll be going back to one on the rear once my current rekon race wears out. I thought the rekon would be quicker with it being a semi slick but it isn’t.

I use them in 2.3 on a rigid MTB.

They may turn up with the DH ones which have been delayed until June at zyrofisher!

Had a rear sat there waiting for over a month.

They may be good but they are a bit rubbish with stock

    @oceanskipper

You’ve basically answered your own question. I don’t work in Specialized dealer but this is basically how it works for us.

Is the longer lead time just a buffer to set expectations and allow the dealer time to schedule in any finishing touches in their own possibly busy workshop?

To answer your later question about ebikes. Most of ours come fully assembled with only the stem/bars removed to fit in the massive box!

Normal bikes are nearly fully built up but with front wheel off, bars stem off and seat post out. These then fit into a smaller box.

Regardless of the cost of the bike we check everything on it to make sure it’s good to go, so those fully assembled bikes get wheels taken off again etc etc….

(Never asked the question why the box sizes differ but a simple one is the bigger ebike boxes are straight away a two man lift. An ebike in a normal box could ruin many a person’s back going to pick it up as if it was normal bike…)

If your sure the pressed in rod ends are loose it could be the stantions are corroded near the bushes causing them to be tight. This definitely happens on the really cheap suntour stuff.

I wouldn’t be hitting the fork arch to hard. You could break it. Hold it upside down and hit the crown instead.

Is this the first service in many years of use? Did oil come out when you removed the nuts and tapped out the rod ends?

Not sure now but when I used to ride DH there it was always a push up the track.

If saddle comfort and reach feel good I’d say stick with it. They are more important than your knees being close to the bars on out off the saddle climbing surely?

    I can help here.

The motors are configured using the bike manufacturers software settings, regional settings etc etc… They are called container files.

So in this instance say you got the motor, you would then have to get it configured by your bikes manufacturer. Eg Trek, Haibike etc

Your LBS can’t do this themselves but the manufacturer can connect up to their software to do it remotely..

Getting them to do this will be another matter though unless you get the motor through the them I think.

I think an email to the UK distributor or HQ of your bikes manufacturer will be the first port of call to see if they can do this for you.

The ebike motor repairability question would make a good article for the main page I think.

A lot of hearsay is out their regarding this.

Singletrack world should ask each manufacturer what is their position on spares and repairs.

    Finally, I’ve found my people!

I to, am a carrier of the dreaded toe fungus.

Thought I’d shifted it with some stuff from the chemist but it’s come back again..

Thankfully mine isn’t anywhere near as manky as that freak show MSP! He wants that foot hacking off 😂

You’ve got the link now go all in with a coil shock.

I tried to get the dpx2 working better once I fitted link and although it did improve slightly it was still just polishing a turd! The DPX2 is not the right shock for the sentinel.

Finally bit the bullet and fitted a coil. Genuinely couldn’t believe the difference on my first run with minimal setup..

The link and a coil shock have transformed my Sentinel into the bike it should always of been….

Eventually someone will replace them who’ll work (begrudgingly or not) under and fairer and more sensible system

I think history has taught us differently. Any seemingly more ethical energy company coming in would still be beholden to shareholders and their interests aren’t in line with running a company in the way that would make any meaningful difference.

Again though. I’ll refer to my last point.

Apply this to any stupid, exploitative system and we’ll end up with a better world.

I know I’m being idealistic but we need big changes across society.

Anything else is just delaying the inevitable collapse into some Orwellian distopia…

The energy windfall tax is also now resulting in O&G companies winding back further capital investment in the UK.

Can’t say I care and I’ll wave them goodbye.

Here’s what happens with all these tricks for removing things. You try them all until one works. You then proclaim that this one trick worked the best for you.

That’s why there’s so many tricks for removing things!

    Good luck though 👍

I cancelled due to the delay. I’d already been waiting for a spur for 18 months so was itching to ride something.

They were cool about it and the revised back end sounded like it was going to cure the issues raised in the review.

Lovely looking thing in the flesh.

I’d consider it again next time I’m due a change.

I waited 18 months for a spur but gave up in the end and bought a trek top fuel.

Very impressed with it so far. Can’t really fault it other than it’s weight over what a spur would be

    I still want a spur though 😂

Was a few years ago now but I had similar requirements. Bought a cheap Panasonic one which also came with a hands free kit.

My van is fully up to spec now. Bluetooth tunes, hands free kit, under seat sub woofer and a plug in heated seat cover……

    Living the dream!

As a counterpoint I’ve never carried a knife while riding and honestly never needed one in 20 odd years of riding.

I’d have one if I had a need for it though.

Hold on… Does the world’s sharpest/bluntest little blade that comes with the weldtite tubeless kit count?!!!!

You can bodge a Bosch brake mounted magnet to work with the Shimano sensor or I noticed these the other day as well
