Here you go, Knock yourself out.

Bit of an epic thread, but gives you an idea of what to do. I converted on of my Lumi cans and later did the HID to LEd conversion as well. A few of the parts you can no longer get, I’m sure there will be alternatives, and of course the leds are much more powerful from a few years back when this thread was started.

CTC Tried, hardly any mountain bikers joined

What? Mountain bikers join an organisation? That’s not rad or gnarly dude. Mountain biking culture has grown up on a culture of unlimited freedom to do what you like. Even if that means wrecking land that doesn’t belong to you. While the majority of sensible bikers take this “culture” with a pinch of salt, there’s a minority who take it to the nth degree.

Its us as a community who should be policing this and making it clear to the troublemakers that their actions have a knock on effect for the rest of us.

In my neck of the woods policing has worked to a point, informing people of the consequences of their actions and they have modified their behavior, unfortunately there is still a minority who while aware of the consequences of their actions on others, don’t give a ****.

Sorry Gee, is that in answer to my Question? I know who DOAMTB are and I know who PP is. It’s more to do with why DOAMTB have been mentioned as they very rarely ride that area as a group.

I’m sure others have that I don’t know about such as DOAMTB or PP or and many others or

    Please explain this.

but if you get stopped and warned off or your bike confiscated don’t start bleeting about it on here,

Despite many opinions to the contrary I have never thought Didsbury was that nice ok but not mega nice – not that i can talk as i live in Woking – direct bus to Heathrow though.

If you ignore the office block centre of Woking and look to the outer parts, its ok. Also it places you more or less between, Swinley, tunnel hill and the Surrey hills.

Pretty good access to the M25 which avoids the M3. The M3 can be an absolute bitch getting from the slip road onto the M25 during peak times and quite often during off-peak times.

The best “retro-fit” Gu10 LED bulbs we’ve used so far are Philip’s 7Watt master in warm white(2700k). They are dimmable, but are a little pricey.

If we were installing in a new build, then I would always go for a dedicated LED fitting such as JCC fireguard LED7 downlighters. Having been installing LEDs for the last three years or so, these are the ones that have come pretty darn close to matching the colour rendering of Halogens.(2700k)

    Yes.

Thanks Gents, that makes sense, I’m slightly embarrassed I didn’t notice this. 😳

. If the bogey man does come out of the dark for you you will ride noticeably quicker IME

The bogey man is the voice in your head saying “go out on solo night rides…do all the stuff you do in the day when your riding mates are around…oh dear you’ve mangled yourself…no bogey man out here coming to “rescue” you, just me the voice in your head.”

    Or something like that.

B type or curve will be fine.

I would also point out that consumer unit manufacturers such as hager will state that the their CU’s meet the relevant standards as they have only been tested using their own circuit breakers/RCBO’s, any circuit breakers from other manufacturers (such as the MK circuit breaker in your Hager consumer unit) used in their CU’s may negate this.

I ride the Surrey hills. I ride a 120mm HT most of the time and a Giant trance on occasions.

IMHO I think a nice light full-sus, 125/130mm max would suit your needs, you can do most stuff on the surrey hills and beyond on it, unless you fancy a crack at the flytipper gap jump? 😉

From what I’ve seen there are a lot of longer travel full sus bikes being used on the Surrey hills, but very few riders riding them with the skill set to use them, the trails on the Surrey hills are fragile and require a smooth riding style. IMHO of course.

    Argh.

Mother is ill. She must be as she switched from normal cigarettes to Menthol ones.

I work in the family business and Father didn’t pay me properly for December, to do with the tax man so to speak, but still managed to employ a Friend for a week.

Seeing them on Boxing day. There will be fireworks.

I tried a conventional front mech, but I couldn’t quite get it to work properly.

If you want a cheap try-out, then this http://www.dv247.com/computer-hardware/alesis-q49–71053 gets you a small MIDI keyboard, which will always be useful when you ‘upgrade’ plus an “OK to learn with” s/w package which will have upgrade options if/when you decide you want more features.

Thanks for that link hilldodger, I was looking at the QX49, the prices on that site are more competitive.

What do you want to record / do with it?

To create tracks via software and have the ability to record live instruments/vocals and add them into the mix…so to speak. Ableton live looks good to do that job.

    * it helps if you can actually play drums to program it.

I can play drums indeed. Guess what make? 😉

I have looked at the Shure SM58, and I’m looking at either Alesis or KRK for speakers.

Thank you so far for the replies.

To mr sonor again. Can you tell me just who has gained from the gravel?

Whoever sold it to the council contractors? I’ve no idea what kind of gravel it is or even where the trail is. And honestly I couldn’t give a ****.

Are we to go on a sacred quest to ensure that every track is perfectly smooth so that if some unknown user ventures out into the nasty countryside they won’t be spooked?

So is this track Gravelly or smooth? Or are you somehow referring that the councils in this country have limitless resources to “sanitise” every bridleway. Which they don’t. I’m with TJ on this, there are plenty of trails around that don’t get this treatment and those that do will be weathered soon enough, surely the few trails that are smoothed out are a benefit to other users who like us mountain bikers may want to use them.

It is the countryside after all. Surely those awful mountainbikers are a bigger menace to this sensitive rambler than a bit of dirt. Are you going to give up biking just in case.

This mountainbiker understands that there are other users of the countryside that may require different kinds of trail surface in order to access it. There are plenty of trails of all kinds for all to share.

These are legitimate cycle paths that have been covered in gravel and rendered dangerous to ride.

In that case they must be legitimate for other users as well. Perhaps instead of bleating about the temporary loss of a rough trail surface on an internet forum, you actually find out why it was done.

As for budgets if they have money to waste on these projects they are being given too much, and I would like MY money back.

A waste in your narrow me, me, me opinion. Your not from the south of the country are you?

Ok Mr Sonor, the best track around my way has been done. In the years I have ridden it I have only seen 2 walkers on it.

    So, and what?

At a cost of £25000 it is now a 10 ft wide gravel trap. Wheels just don’t work on it. So that’s stuffed any potential wheel chair users or pram pushers.

I can presume this is a bridleway with no car parks nearby? So why would there be wheelchairs or prams? What about the other users, such as ramblers and horse riders? Of course your reply of:

    So who’s being selfish now?

Means that those users don’t count. It’s only me, me, me.

Let’s not forget how much these ‘ improvements’ cost.
There are a million things that need sorting before the councils ruin our favourite tracks. It’s happening all over Surrey , yet our roads remain a disgrace and the hospitals a mess.

Not just “our” tracks. They are shared with other users. The selfishness of some people. 🙄

Lets not forget Britain was quite comfortable on the world stage at the time, being in control of 2/3 of the globe. They were fighting a war on behalf of France and Belgium.

Don’t think it was fighting on the behalf of France and Belgium as such. The first world war was the ultimate war of imperialism. Started for such ridiculous reasons.

I’m proud of what the soldiers did, not proud of the reasons why they had to do it.

who keep us a little safer from fruitcake idealogies around the world.

See above. Even today we are still fighting wars based on an idealogy.

Just seen QPR v Chelsea highlights. A spawnier win you won’t see this season. Terrible, terrible refereeing. Helguson blatantly dived to win the pen, Bosingwa should never have walked for that, and Chelsea had two strong penalty shouts themselves. even against 9 men, QPR were lucky to win that one. They should fear the revenge that Chelsea will exact on them at Stamford Bridge…

Not quite, up to 20amps. Up to 32amps if its outdoors for obvious reasons.

As an electrician, I would say seriously consider staying where you are.

I like my job, but I’m highly dubious of these training companies that offer these short courses, they remind me of the IT training companies from about 10 years back who offered the same thing. They may give you some skills and qualifications, but in this business experience counts.

It’s difficult to change to this sort of trade later in life as you need to be in the business as a trainee/apprentice to gain experience and the wages for these positions are low.

£500 should be your starting point absolutely NO reason to pay more than £600

And at that price you’ll just get someone who’ll throw it in. I find that people seem to have this bizarre attitude to the leccy, not an attitude shared when it comes to gas. Both can be killers if done wrong.

I’m glad I stick to commercial installations these days, some of the things I’ve seen by domestic customers getting someone in because they were cheap.

I use SLX and have encountered the twig problems that you describe with no damage.. also similar branch, bough, log, tree, copse woodland and forest problems.. with associated attacks from dogs, rabbits, goats, sheep, horses, hamsters, ants, cows and bison.. buffalo, anteaters, and several medium sized dinosaurs..

I didn’t see Honey badgers on the list, so probably not the rear mech for me.

have to make it into Europe first though.

Which they will again as they are a well run club. The only reason they aren’t doing well at the moment is because the other clubs are simply spending more than they earn and as a result can attract the best players, which Arsenal with its wage cap cannot or will not, they also lose their better players to these clubs(not just the English ones.)

By imposing these rules UEFA will be essentially getting clubs to be run like Arsenal.

And speaking of losing their best players, they sold Traore to my club QPR. He’s playing exceptionally well at the moment. *

    *Could go pear shaped rapidly
