I’m a short arse so perfect for me. There’s a few 6 footers on the forums who say they are fine for them but I bet they look like mugs

Ribble cycles did a tange tubed frame with that finish in the 90’s. I had one for a while before it got nicked. It looks very similar if it isn’t one. Merlin cycles did polished alloy frames (malt series) or steel Rock Lobsters which were all painted.

Super Besse is a cool little resort too. Would be interested in trying the MTB trails there but have only been in winter so far. Not the greatest ski area certainly but still fun.

The ski area at Le Lioran is OK for a locals resort. Not skied at Super-besse, Mont-Dore or Sancy yet so can’t compare but when conditions are good there’s enough there for 2 or 3 days.

They’ve also put some VTT trails in at Lioran too, might try and get out and ride them this year

We found that a gite was cheaper than caravans. We are off to Auvergne, just near super besse, for 10 days, just outside English holiday. The four bed house is costing £350 ish.
    Homeaway and airbnb are great.

Be interested to know if you go on the VTT trails at Super Besse / Sancy and what you think of them.

Another alternative for a short local loop is to head south over to Earby and back via Pinhaw Beacon. There’s a few cheeky bits you might need a nudge in the right direction to find and it’s best when dry.

I have been using a pair of these and the sole has stood up well to my Hope F20 pedals.

The sole seems a bit harder than a lot of approach shoes but grip on the pedals is fine for me – as good as any skate shoe I’ve used anyway.

They do get a bit warm though

I also use gear cable inner in a brake outer to lessen the inherent friction in the cable. Never snapped a cable yet.
How do you fit a gear inner into a brake lever ?

The gap at the lever is only as wide as the cable so any sized nipple will be prevented from pulling through. Only lever it doesn’t work on is the Shimano Lx v-brake ones.

Don’t normally have to bed pads in on my BB7’s either. They do get a little bit better after a few hard stops but they work fine out of the box.

Are all the outer ends absolutely flat ? – this can make a huge difference on cable brakes.

Make sure any cut ends of outer are perfectly flat, makes a huge difference. I use gear inner in brake outer on my mtb cable brakes to reduce cable friction, gives a lighter action and I’ve never snapped one or pulled a nipple off

I have a Saracen Hack and I have a relatively short body and I’m not very flexible and it’s the only drop bar bike I’ve ever got comfy on – albeit I had to flip the stem over.

It’s nice and comfy and the promax cable discs are better than expected – easily a match for BB7 road if set up properly.

There’s clearance for bigger tyres than the ones supplied too. Lack of mudguard mounting eyes on the fork is the only criticism – the fork blades are a bit fat for p-clips.

On the smaller sizes (mine’s a 54cm) there’s a bit of toe overlap with mudguards on.

    For off-road I would probably fit a 12-30 cassette.

Just got back from 3 amazing days in the 3 valleys, amazing weather and great conditions (I’m still an off-piste virgin so can only vouch for on-piste). Survived my second only black run albeit without any style or grace – looks like we get to go back again next year too! :-)

We got stung for the Swiss motorway vignette on the way back to the airport but didn’t stick it to the windscreen so if anyone is driving to/from Geneva I have one to sell at a discount.

Email me (in profile) if interested

My Nissan Almera was always cheap to insure in 1.4 guise. Mine was an old shape pre x-reg I think.

Chain cam-engine, micra like reliability and 40mpg on a run.

Comfy enough on a long run.

Look for rust in the sills or evidence of welding.

If the heater only works on low or full it’s a £30 fix with a part from a scrappy.

5 door doesn’t look quite as good but is more practical.

Quite a few around for less that £500 Autotrader search results

4×4 diesel Ambience spec indian built Duster owner here. I have a 1st gen one affected by the rust issue. It has been repainted under warranty and after 3 months rust has yet to reappear. Still not happy with a new car rusting though so make sure dealer doesn’t try and fob you off with a touched up rusty one.

The 4×4 version has a stupidly low 1st gear which should only ever be needed off-road. I find it uncomfortable after a couple of hours on the motorway and I’ve never managed more than 45mpg. Tank is only 40 litres too so range is quite poor.

Boots nice and big but still needs front wheel off to fit an mtb in as back seat doesn’t fold flat. Road bike goes in complete no problem.

Interior quality is similar to a Renault traffic van, scratchy plastic but functional. Try and avoid having the central armrest as it gets in the way of the handbrake and seat recliner knobs.

Upgraded to 5.0.2 here on my 2012. Lag is no worse than 4.4.2. Removing Facebook and all publications from the google newstand app has improved things. I can only assume these these do a lot of background work….

Had a rear MTB mech which despite claims to the contrary was not compatible with a shimano deore rapid fire shifter – always just a bit out. Replaced with an old lx mech and perfect shifting restored. More croshift sti and mechs on my road bike have been faultless though….

Looking at Owncloud myself but installed on an old box running Ubuntu Server. I’ve just got some firewall configuration to do then it should be ready to play :-)

This was the advice I got from our IT support:

Quick heads up on Owncloud – make sure you keep *very* up to date with patches. It’s got a long list of vulnerabilities this year alone. I recommend subscribing to one of the many security mailing lists or setting a Google alert for “Owncloud+CVE”. That said it’s a good platform – just a bit of a target for hackers…. Lot’s of history XSS vulnerabilities. Credit to the developers, they get patched quickly, but a patch is only good if installed in a timely fashion!

Nexus7 1st gen and no OTA 5.0.1 update here either. It’s a total bag of laggy spanners on KitKat now and has been getting worse ever since the apps started updating to the lollipop versions.

My limited google-fu seems to be blaming it on the read/write speeds of the storage.

Gato 2.3 on wet rocks? It won’t end well. Apparently they’re sensitive to pressure because of stiff sidewalls. Not sure if I’m brave enough to experiment – they were trying to bloirdy kill me!

I’ve ridden one with a vanilla r shock, it could have done with a platform air shock to reduce the very active back end. Its still in the shed if anyone is tempted to try, I’d let it go for a bit less than the chap on eBay ….

Kona one20 frames should be within budget, run fine with 130mm forks, I put some offset bushes in mine just to make it a little less twitchy on steep stuff.

Climbs well in middle ring, little bit of bob in the granny ring but I’m faster uphill on it than my PA and it’s just as much fun on the downs.
