Have you read the details of this case? They are truly horrific! They’re animals!

Yes and they are. Are they any worse than the gang of men who weeks after this attacked and raped a girl on a building site setting fire to her afterwards so see wouldn’t identify them. The girl in that case was 11, it received little media coverage, no arrests were made and the father reports he now cannot get police to continue the investigation. There has been no reduction in these crimes since then, and i doubt these sentences will change anything.

It looks more like pandering to the international community rather than addressing the deeper societal issues driving these cases. Overall it paints a more depressing picture of the society to me.

Yep, a bit bizarre. I wonder how Assad would cope with a ground assault by a load of gnarly grumpy folk wearing offensively short shorts?

Both the egg yolks in my fried egg cob this morning were not runny, and the cob was not smothered in cheap marg. This was offset by the fried egg on my lunch time bubble and squeak which had a perfect dippy yolk.

I believe you will find the helmet didn’t actually save us and you did in fact post this from the afterlife. Whilst i was initially reassured that there was wi-fi in the afterlife, i am a little concerned this is a creepy supernatural wi-fi.

My last mail order purchase from Je james was such a pain i was tempted to start mailing them my own turds, but this was about 2 years ago so they may have changed.

I’d given up on their new site, but linked off Google to a headset I’m after and it went to their new mobile site. I thought at least they had now got a new mobile site up and going which seemed a step forward. Headset out of stock, so i tried to put my email address into the stock alert thingy and it wouldn’t recognise it as a valid email address!! It’s the same one i use for my account name, bellends. So headset bought from Merlin along with some enve carbon clinchers that looked too good to miss 😳

but if a child had drawn this would you pin on the fridge or refer them to a shrink, I know I would be chosing the latter.

I would cut out the middle man, and pin the kid to the fridge.

I would just open the fridge and take out some beer and pizza and try and ignore everything. But this probably explains why I’m divorced.

Could just be ‘cos it’s a post-ride dirty pic, but that bike looks really poorly maintained.

    🙄 how very STW

although a house stinking of piss and turning up late and drunk could be deemed as causing unacceptable levels of distress and anguish.

Agreed, the cumulative effect of lesser risks can build up. It might be worth building up a diary of events to help evidence this, as all agencies can be a bit blinkered to this and just look at a ‘snapshot’ of risk.

It may be worth contacting social services and referring grandmother under the safeguarding adults scheme

I would think the key to this would be has granny got the mental capacity to make an informed choice on whether she lets drunk aunty in. This would be based on the impairment that results in her being pleasantly confused. If she has capacity but just feels obliged, emotionally blackmail, then there are times none of us make the wisest decisions.
In terms of removing granny, this would only be if she lacked capacity and was being put at risk of significant harm. Unpleasant as having someone slash on your sofa is, it’s not significant harm. But if aunt gets threatening, nicks stuff etc then there are other ways to look to stop this via harassment laws, restraining orders, before anyone would look to drag granny off. There is no harm in a referral, even if it only gets you as far as discussing the legalities of the situation, most of the social workers i’ve come across seem pretty sensible on these matters. The main gripe with them usually is that their view of significant risk tends to be a lot higher than most families would like to see vulnerable loved ones live with.

Well if i gauge stw correctly, you may well have taunted the wild eyed homicidal drivers of our fair land with a minor inconvenience, and have put us all in imminent danger of death. Maybe.

I don’t mind you disagreeing can you be a little more constructive?

When people take such hysterical stances, there is little point.

Are you saying there’s no harm coming to cyclists in the UK, cos I can send you a fair few links which show otherwise..

    See above.

I’ve had some 38mm clinchers for nearly 3 years on my training bike. Ridden all around Europe and the uk using Reynolds carbon brake pads. No issues here, although they are starting to look pretty shagged and the braking does seem to be getting worse in the wet. I had to have them trued after 3 months, but fine since, and i changed the bearings in the novatech rear hub about 6 months ago. Can’t remember the ebay seller i got them from but they cost about £330. I’d have another set.

And thanks for giving the haters the ammunition to justify their prejudices. Yes, thanks very much for that one… makes my riding just that little more likely to end in an ambulance

The race 23’s look the dogs, the 24’s don’t. I run my training bike tubeless, and whilst a fan, it doesn’t ime give enough benefits to make me want uglier wheels. That said the 24’s look pretty normal and start to get into tube and tyre weights etc, i doubt weight wise there would be much in it.

I’ve found px’s customer service and eye for what they consider acceptable to be pretty shoddy. But I’ll happily buy their cheaper stuff, like wheels, for training and commuting, and just accept i’ll be changing the bearings in a few months. But i wouldn’t buy anything pricey from them, as if I’m spending big i want to know i’ll get great customer service.

    mmm…. no.

For the record, you posted a question on a forum, where other people also post questions and comments. Some people have posted questions and comments underneath yours. Don’t like em? Shame.

Well, somebody has a belly full of bitterness just waiting to be dumped on random strangers. Good job they built the internet 😀

Most people(who are not high level rau[*]cers) i find complaining of poor bike fit are infact suffering first of all from lack of fitness, second of all lack of core stability and third flexibility and just want to throw money at it.

    +1

If people want to buy them and it makes them happy then why should I give a ****? Or am I just missing the necessary superiority complex?

+1, but sadly Jim, Colin will just be happy he got a bite.

I’ve been using a set of ultegra wheels now on it’s third set of hutchinson’s on my main training bike. I’ve had no issues at all with them, one tyre was killed by a chunk of glass but this would have killed any tyre. My trainer is also my roadtrip bike, and has done sub zero work in Norway and blazing hot mountains across Europe.
I don’t think I’m getting the most out of tubeless as i still run 23mm tyres and run them hard, as that’s how i like them. I still run clinchers on my dura ace race wheels, which i guess i could convert but haven’t really felt the need, i can only think of 2 flats in the time i’ve had the tubless wheels running, and neither were whilst racing. So whilst i have nothing but good things to say about road tubeless ime, they haven’t really changed my world.

prolly best to make your own mind up, if you can be arsed.

My take wouldn’t be that of tinas, but as i have noted, i would happily send my forks to loco.

Given loco’s intervention on moonan’s thread, i guess this was no lower than that, and certainly less under hand (depending on your acceptance of loco’s explanation). But i don’t think anyone has ever had anything bad to say about loco’s work, i’d certainly use him to service my fork.

It took the van strike and then a rather rapid interface with the road to break the bars, and it was the road that killed them. They had probably done about 5000 miles by the time they met their end, and as with all the bits on that bike I had no issues about riding them at full tilt. If they had gone like those in the vid, they would not have survived a week with me. As with all things, you pay’s your money and you take a chance, and maybe I got lucky. But similarly, I had to have my £6k road bike frame replaced under warranty after 2 months of riding it, but I still have no issues hammering it’s replacement. Stuff breaks, cheap and fake stuff probably a bit more. But similarly, some people are hand wringers and some are a bit more dippy and take more risks, and I’m definitely the latter. I can see that buying cheap Chinese kit and fakes is not for everyone, but I just thought I would give it a go, and it’s worked out ok so far for me.

seems all carbon may be out to get you, well according to a vegan

I’ve got a 3 year old hongfu road bike, just as i was interested in trying one given all the gossip about them. Dressed it in force/ rival and a load of fake fsa carbon finishing kit. I use it as a summer(ish) training bike and road trip bike, it has clocked up just over 10k miles and is entering it’s forth years service. Been over the alps, dolomites and around Norway taking some serious stick and it’s been grand. Summer 2 saw me and the bike side swipe by a white van, the bars and a shifter bought it, but bar some scratches all is well.

You certainly sound like you are still buzzing. Get the pic’s up 🙂

You are prepared for the usual suspects to point out that you didn’t really have fun and argue about your trail analysis. Oh yeah, highlighting the oh’s climbing abilities may make you a racist, sexist, homophobic, left wing, Tory, 😉 at least you didn’t mention the coffee at the cafe.

It depends if you are ‘comfy’ or more of a ‘racer’, and what sort of use/ distance you are looking at doing. If you are pretty fit and flexible you should get use to pretty much any bike if it fits. Similarly are you only looking at rides of a couple of hours, or are you looking at ton plus rides? If it is just going to be a commuter why not just get something comfy?

Also if you wake early, try knocking one off, as this may help you drift back off. Smart phones, also mean you have access to instant grot without having to move to far, which can assist a tired brain that might be struggling to drum up a suitablty saucey scenario.
