If replacing like-for-like use the old one, otherwise LBS might have some kicking around?

When I moved from NZ to the UK the rules were 3 years residency before being able to apply for citizenship if you were married to a UK partner. After I got here the rules changed and it is now 5 years for all. My Wife and daughter are British.
I’m not complaining, the rules are the rules and I choose to live here.

Started doing a few of these stretches recently and seems to be helping. I know it isn’t an overnight fix so I’ll be keeping at it!

I had a creak that I couldn’t diagnose for a while. Pedals changed, BB replaced but it narrowed down to the freehub as I suspected all along. Picked up a new Superstar Switch freehub when they had the 25% off everything and tadaah… the creak is gone…. Prob doesnt help but I suspect the creak was within the superstar freehub, either bearings or a crack.

Did an event at the weekend (Hamsterley Beast). I finished 49th and probably picked up 6 gel wrappers dropped by riders in front and saw perhaps another 4-5. That seems a fairly high rate of accidental droppage. Given they were mostly the same brand I suspect it was one idiot dropping most of them.

I’d hate to see the course after the other 250 riders went round :(

    Asgard get’s my vote

Me too. Got one of these. http://www.asgardsss.co.uk/bike-cycle-storage/large-metal-bike-shed

Not cheap but very well made. I have 3 full-suss MTBS in there plus the commuter, with space for toolbox, pump, helmets/shoes etc.

Bought some sintered to try, arrived this morning. Type #8 looks right for my 2013 SLXs.

I’ll be there, probably in Saddle Skedaddle kit.

Treating it as a cruisy training ride after a dodgy knee episode recently.

    Hope the weather plays ball!

Sounds like worth a punt especially for the emergency pair that lives in the ‘epic rides’ rucksack. Good for topping up orders for free delivery too!!

I’ve got one of these for the nip-in-for-a-pasty stops. Stops an opportunist but not much more than that.

    Full disclosure… I work for Saddle Skedaddle….

But a couple of my favourite destinations are Peru and South Africa/Botswana.
Both have awesome riding and the cultural sights and sounds that you want from a long-haul trip.

Not very exotic but Sandstone Way if you havent done is worth a look. Train to Berwick, then 4 days Berwick – Wooler – West Woodburn – Hexham – Newcastle.

    Pub accommodation or Bivi.

Yeah, I realise that the whetstone is the go-to to get the edge established properly, but I like to give my knives a quick tickle every couple of days to keep them straight. Least that is my thinking!!

I’ve used a lowepro photo sport 200aw a lot when guiding. Super comfy and great access for camera. There is a pro (30L) version with a removable camera pod which looks even better, and also a new photo sport 200II which looks good.

Tip: I found that when biking, taking the aluminium rod out of the back allows the pack to hug your back better and it moves around a lot less. For hiking and climbing its better with the rod in.

OK then…. seeing as I like supporting LBSs… Anyone know of somewhere that stocks them in Newcastle (upon Tyne)?

My daughter has largely ignored hers, possibly because it’s hard work on carpet. Have you got a large expanse of wood floor, laminate, tiles, etc?

Open-plan wooden floored dining room, living room and hallway so could be a winner. Also the wooden deck as well once the spring arrives so could be a winner.

They aren’t all that pricey for a cool bit of kit anyway!

    Cheers all!

Sad news indeed. Despite the public image of TNF as a corporate it seems that Doug and Yvon Chouinard? were doing some great work.

Anyone with an interest in ethical business and the outdoors should watch the film ‘180° South’ and read the book ‘Let My People Go Surfing’.

Yeah, I’ve seen reports of a few different ‘fixes’ but in the long run most are a hardware issue of some kind. I’m not sure I’m brave enough for a full disassembly!

Is there any evidence that uncovered bar ends are significantly more dangerous than covered ones? Apple corers are sharp!

Anecdotally yes…. I’ve seen one instance of a core sample taken from someones inner thigh by an uncovered bar end, and lots of bruises from plugged bar ends. Make of that what you will!!

In my experience on rental touring bikes, the newer Shimano A530 are pretty crap, the flat pedal side has no grip at all! However the more old-school Shimano M324 are not too bad and would be all good for family pootling!

Hard to diagnose at it could be a bent mech, cable not adjusted properly or a few other things. Its quite likely to be a bent mech hanger though so you could get a LBS to check or you could just order a new one as a spare is good to have. lots of sites stock them but http://gearmechhanger.com/ has a good range.

Ok, cool. Then how would one know if they will be supplied with the lockring that suits QR (using a cassete tool) or 15mm (using a BB tool)?
