@ edhornby – Solaris is nice, but if I’m going to spend £499 I might as well buy the new Stanton which horizontal dropouts.

@ Rorschach – nice looking bike but the trouble is trying one locally, thats the problem I’m having trying another Swift or Stooge.

ghostlymachine – Big lad aren’t you (can’t remember if you’ve mentioned it on another thread)) they were horrible bendy bikes even when they were new and i weighed 60 odd kilos.
But, they were very comfortable, as long as you a) didn’t need to stand up, b) didn’t try to change direction with any sort of precision or urgency and c) had a large stock of replacement frames.

 I’ve been trying to loose weight

Yea heard they are pretty flexy, my old man had one in the 80/90’s he was 60-70kg and loved it.
I’ve dropped 6kg in the past month or so but still 85kg might be a tad heavy for one…. especially as the bonds seem to fail with age. One of those Verenti Rhigos might be a more modern alternative.
I just think the Vitus are pretty…..

I wonder if there is any Haro Mary’s knocking about….. They were good budget entries into the SS/29er world.

Only peaked my interested as I’m looking at a rear end rack for my car, trying to get hold of a MaxxRaxx as I remember my ol’ mans being good. Would mean I could get rid of my roof rack and coffin from the wife’s car….and my shed….

Thought this was a pretty good example of how not to do it!

Interesting thread as I am more into off-road touring these days. My swift is still v comfortable along with the Jones loops.

Any other suggestions welcome, I have followed the various Jones threads but it’s q big step up cost wise. Tbh I enjoy riding my old road tourer the most.

I’ve been doing the same, but am looking for a bit more relaxed “do all” frame that will run SS. Stooge is the prime candidate atm. But I do still enjoy the ride of my Swift…

Yep wouldn’t bother with the Altura one, mines gone back for repair…..

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/altura-vortex-seat-pack-worth-the-money

Will be using my own additional compression strap and glueing some inner tube to the inside of the seat tube strap.

It’s a shame as the bag itself is nice, kept all my stuff dry on my rides, just didn’t like some of the drops on Dartmoor..

Wow that tent is massive, we’ve just been away with our 2 and dog in a Vango Beta 550XL, all had enough space.

Nominated because of the pain it dished out to my ar*e for three months until I finally bought a different saddle…

I had the red one on my 1999 Clockwork for year! Went onto my P7 after that. It finally wore way about 2010.

Singular Swift with old On-One Reet’ard wheels, Alfine and Rockshox Recon Silvers 14.3kg….whats that about 32lbs? Doesn’t matter as I like how it rides….

My Mk2 Kaff is 11.6kg..heavy for a road bike, I was surprised my wife’s Merida Speeder was heavier by nears a kg.

Rode my Kaff to work today…. was overtaken by a chap on a full carbon rig…. He was definitely no fitter than me it was must have been the carbon… honest…..

I keep meaning to go weigh my SIngular just for a laugh…. On-One Reet’ards and Alfine does not a light bike make….
TBH my road bike would do the same…..

I’ve got a Kaff and it’ll do exactly what you want but by gosh is it dull to ride. It’s supremely versatile and will do all you ask of it but don’t expect it to inspire you to want to ride it. Mine has now been relegated to tow-path and gnarmac duties.

Can echo that! If the OP is after a tool it’s a great choice.
It’s like my Mk1 Yaris Diesel, does the job cheaply but won’t really make you smile while doing it.

Got a Kaffenback to ride to work, does what it’s suppose to do a tad hefty but it’s fine for my use.

@TazzyMTB – Thanks, You’ve also seen my comment over of FB…. Still undecided what to do, I will probably stick with the Swift in all honesty, does everything I need it’s just a bit battered now….Just turned 30 and fancied a look at me pin….Radberry bike…. Also a bit more of a relaxed riding position.

Used raw food on the previous dog which helped calm it down but was a faff storing it and defrosting it! Did it ever stink!

We use fish for dogs on the current dog which is dried food but is great, he’s lovely and calm, no stinky farts and a nice glossy coat. It’s expensive but seems to be worth it.

    I have a OnePlus X which replaced my HTC M7 (which I hated….)

Been brilliant, odd buggy moment but had that with the HTC only let down really is the camera but it’s better than the HTC’s “Mega Pixel” thing….

Bang for buck spec wise it’s great, I would buy another.

Just sold a 3 man job I had (Coleman Phad X3) which had a nice bit of room, though I wouldn’t put 3 people in it… two with a small dog was cosy…. lovely semi-geodesic design bit weighty 3.5kg
After selling it I thought I should have kept it to do some bike packing…. I did managed to find my old Coleman tent from D of E but it’s over 10 year old now…. still at a 2 man tent its 3.25kg… might look around for something lighter….
The Go Outdoors OEX tents don’t look bad.

I miss Wiltshire, lived in Corsham for about 5 years, would move back in the heart beat, though I love Cornwall it’s one of the few places out of Cornwall I felt comfortable in.
Some good country to cycle in as well, it was where I started to enjoy singlespeeds.

bonesetter – Member I’m 6’3″ and run a Stooge, no probs

What set up are you running if you don’t mind me asking? I’m about 3″ shorter than you but just getting an idea of how people are running them, I’m used to a fairly long stem.

Yea was trying to convince SWMBO to go home via CTBM’s place… we were camping in Devon so only a small diversion…
I think would take me about the same time to drive to the Midlands… got quite used to driving to the Telford area.

Remember the ‘weight rotated back’ Stooge arrangement, so little to none front/arm (wrist) loading

Yes thanks, one of the things making me think about changing, I think I would still need to run with a squishy fork until my wrist is fixed and a round of physio.. It’s gotten so bad I can’t open a beer or pour a kettle!

Been thinking about switching my Swift for a Stooge, I’ve had it since 2010 so had some fun out of it…
I’m currently running an Alfine 8 out the back and 100mm Rockshox up front.
I’ve not seen one with shocks fitted but I think I will have to fit mine until I’ve had my wrist operation, then might go to 29×3, Anyone fitted forks?

Still not 100% if I want to change yet as I do like my Swift but I think the Stooge might suite me more.

Interesting thread. I have 6yr old Singular Swift I’m thinking of changing for a Stooge, based in Cornwall but have been enjoying a few rides in and about Dartmoor.
My kit at the moment is an all rounder for me, using for rides with the wife and kids as well as taking it Cardinham and onto the moors.
Now I’m a bit braver…. and exploring the more technical stuff I’m thinking the Stooge might be a be a bit of a better option for me.
Will see what the money draw says…

We had a Zoom for both of ours, the eldest went straight to a “normal” with out stabilisers within 30’s of jumping on it.
The daughter not so much, but she is lazy and stubborn….

The Zoom seemed to be a good little thing, lasted our two well the brake also came in handy for the transition to a “normal” bike.

I used to tetroseal wax oil the inside of my steel frames until I stopped worrying about it…. well I forgot to when building my last frame up (2010) and not bothered to do it since. Seat tube had some signs of corrosion on when I removed it last, nothing to worry about though, bottom bracket/EBB was clean.
