Only reason it got built up last week was because of knee injury, same boat here it will months before I get on it.
Only excuses for it lying in the shed for six months are busy with work, family, festivities and the other bike being used for what little time I was getting for riding and the other bike was giving up some bits for the Canyon build.

what tyres on that bike for the surrey hills?

Not seen many canal tow paths up my way for a while, proper hills/mountains up here.

Can you report on how well it peddles when you have given a good thrashing please.

Will do, it may be a while though as my knee is buggered (skiing injury), i am expecting it to be half decent, a mate in Norway has one similar build which I had a whizz around on a couple of weeks ago seemed ok although he is built like a racing snake so was bouncing around a bit with my lardier ass on it, he says it pedals well for a fairly long travel bike so fingers crossed, but as you can see by the build it’s more for pointing down the way :D

is that it’s impossible to buy timber that is comparably crap

Totally agreed, I purchased one of those cheap sheds from a place similar to crap shedscouldn’t believe just how crap it was, ended up attempting to stiffen it up with 2 x 2 then the timbers dried out and there were huge gaps in the ship lap then winter came and the timbers expanded to the point the ship lap was popping open and splitting then it got set free with some petrol and a match, thinking back it was actually comical how poorly constructed it was.

Was at Stranda on the 6th 7th and 8th of Feb, conditions were great, 2 meters plus at the top and they had about 8 inches the day we arrived so off piste was superb, not much in the way of good piste skiing (advanced stuff), but the two highest lifts that take you to the top have an unpisted back country feel about them, great place for proper back country stuff, I had my AT stuff and skins with me and you dont have to venture far to feel like you are in the middle of nowhere and completely on your own, highly recommend it if you are into skinning up.
Not much in Stranda, we stayed in Alesund which is about 50 klicks away. I will definately be going back sometime but not this year (see previous post).
Was in to see the consultant this morning, he says shin bone is moving way to much in relation to thigh bone which means ACL damage, MRI on friday to confirm, so no second ski trip for me this year

Just back from Norway, not everyones first choice of a ski holiday destination but I am working in Bergen at the moment so thought I would travel round for a couple of weeks and try some of the hills, did Trysil, Hemsedal, Kvitfjell, Hafjell, Strandafjellet and Voss, fair bit of driving involved but worth it, some great weather great snow and excellent back country/offpiste at Strandafjellet, bolted on the AT soles to the boots skinned up the skis and went proper back country for a few days at Strandafjellet
Last two days were in Trysil north of Oslo nice little hill but not very challenging, so decided to spend the last afternoon in the terrain park, big mistake, last run before heading to pub launched off a big kicker like many times before only this time it went horribly wrong in mid air, came down hard, knee feels like it has exploded
Next morning knee is like a space hopper (going home to Bergen today) go to medical centre to get a crutch, mates have to deal with packing all my gear  now back in UK to get it checked out (thank god for Bupa) appointment tomorrow morning and then hopefully straight in for MRI, my GP reckons ACL but obviously doesn’t know how bad

203mm version and like I say they are the same price? do you think this means the non floating are the vented ones?

No the vented ones are floaters also and are around 80 quid a pop.
If they are the same price then go for floaters, much better IMO, got hope floaters on both bikes and had no probs in 3 years.
Edit, don’t get em from CRC tho, much cheaper else where, shop around.

I just built up a Torque, frame has been lying in the shed since september so thought I better get round to it, ordered it and was deliverd five days later, great customer service from GmBH and UK, forgot to tell them I was fitting a Hammerschmidt so they never sent the spacer you need for it, was delivered two days later, like I said customer service superb, called the UK office a couple of times and answered straight away, couldn’t be more helpful, 10 out of 10 for Canyon IMO! 8)

Cheers for the replies chaps, I know all about the dangers of wind blown/hanging trees, don’t have CS certs but me old man is a farmer so obviously lived on the farm for years and hacked away at such problems for years, luickily have use of tractors and machinery to aid in the clearing of such problems, just looking for a good light weight saw for limbing and clearing and thought a top handle might be the way ahead, the 346 is a bit heavy for all day limbing even with a short bar on it.
Dealers shouldn’t sell you them but when you know the dealer and have done for years I dought that will bother them, and even if it did the old man would just go and get it!

Aye it is but that’s a good thing as I class it as my own personel trails :D IMO where there are talking about building them is not really required as there is plenty of natural stuff around that area anyway if you know where to go

Tidal is the way ahead, but TJ in ten years, bolloks! 50 years maybe, a mate of mine was involved in the project that put the turbine in the Pentland firth, he said it was way over engineered and the designers/engineers said it would withstand blah blah, 5 weeks after they put it in he was back up there taking it out because it was f#####d.

What Roschach said, if not use a hex bit if you have one then you can push down on the ratchet whilst applying more torque, if not just go for it if you **** it just drill the head of the bolt off using a drill bit the same size as the head of the bolt.

So neither is a by-product of anything else.

not strictly true, in the 19th century the only thing they wanted from Crude was kerosene, so gasoline(petrol) and diesel were waste products of cracking to the extent they were dumped into rivers of the southern states. Then Mr John D Rockerfeller came along to change all that and the rest is history!

So what about this incident, out walking the two hounds (which are particularly large one of them is about 35″ at the shoulder) around Rothiemurcas, hear a MTB’r coming down trail so step to the side into long grass with the two hounds which are not on leads, biker comes round the bend sees the hounds gets startled veers of the trail and down he goes, he gets up has a bit of a rant whilst I am holding back the laughter, realises he is being a bit of a nob and starts laughing and apoligises for being a nob, and says fookin ell check the size of them! Could of gone quite different if it was someone else that did not not have a sense of humor.
So should I have been out of sight as to not cause MTB’s any distraction :D
Not really got any relevance to the point of this thread though.

I do it regularly, but in my industry there is always another job/contract round the corner, could walk out one day and have a new contract the next so it’s easy for me, also been back to companies on several occasions after leaving with no grudges held, but like i said it’s the industry.

Worked in Brazil a few years ago from around june 2007 till around june 2009 on a four on four off rotation, the end of the project date was given as 30th may 2009 which meant we had been booked on AF447 on Sunday 31st of May out of Rio.
So we (me and two colleagues) decided we didn’t want to get home on a monday morning, so we would get all the loose ends tied up for Thursday night, have the Friday off and have an end of project lash up in Rio before flying out on the Saturday night. So made all the necessary arrangements, got the travel dept to change our flights etc.
So you all know what happened next!
Probably the best decision I have or ever will ever make in my life.
F#####d me up in the head for about six months after and didn’t go back to work in that time as it involved flying somewhere.
Also knew three other guys that worked out of Rio for a different company that were on the flight that went down, took that pretty hard as well as we were boasting in the pub to them that we were going home a day early.

Holly **** 20 grand for 5 meters of PS cable, that is just plain rediculous, I am not an audiophile or into hifi at all but know a bit about high end cable (nothing to do with hifi).
A specialised company that we purchase “custom” cable’s from who design and manufacture to our spec for subsea oil and gas production equipment on average come in at about 20 grand a pop, and this is a cable that will 10 to 20 meters long have 6 SM fibers, maybe 20 screened TP’s for 232 comms, 2 quads and at least 4 conductors for 48vdc high capacity power plus spares and the expensive wet mateable subsea connectors that go on either end, they each take about a week to make have to be good to withstand pressures down to 3000msw give or take and have a lifespan of a minimum of 25 years.
Sheesh, still cant get over the price for a cable that must take at the longest an hour to make by hand (even if it is) and coated in what ever supposedly expensive material. 8O 8O
Anyone that spends that amount on a “home hifi system” needs a check up from the neck up!

Also IIRC you don’t get your own space in QF Business on the 380 so a bit like BA if you have the seat/bed flat the person at the window will be climbing over you.

I was surprised the Qantas business seats were as poor as they were on the new 380 compared to other airlines.

    scotsman

I take it will be in the comfy seats? Not as good as Emirates by a mile, the Qantas business seats are quite poor in comparison, IMO even the BA Business seat is better.
You can book your seat in advance I think, or if you have a Qantas card cant remember.
If you like to sleep get a seat in the back area of business as the bar/lounge is at the front, lots of bodies back and forth in the forward area.
Flight was OK, food was decent and plenty to help yourself to in the lounge.
Emirates every time for me, even though you have to change in Dubai quality of service and the seat makes the stop in Dubai worth it.

better get lots this year, need to play with the plough and gritter that has just been purchased for the farm quad, and the £££’s of pounds spent installing heat tracing cable in the gutters needs a good testing!
