Genuine advice, get a computer running Windows or iOS and a cheap midi controller, without a DAW you’re fighting a losing battle, unless you want to jump into the eurocrack wormhole. He might like twiddling knobs but you need to be able to sequence things or you’ll just end up with a load of incoherent phrases that will be gone as soon as you turn off the gear. Build up a small collection of synths and eventually a decent hardware sequencer or even something like a volca or beatstep pro.

I was going to say have you completely ruled out IKEA? Our last two (different houses) have come from there and we think the quality is excellent, but you do need to plan for the lack of service void. The fitter that did our last one said he’d avoided fitting IKEA since his last one six years prior but got sweet talked into doing ours by a colleague that probably also didn’t want to fit IKEA, having finished our he reckoned the clever design, build and way everything fits together is way better than all the usual competitors such as Howdens, B&Q, Wickes etc. He thought Wren were way overpriced and their backup was non existent..

I asked a similar question a few weeks back and went for the Honor (not the view model) 10, and am very pleased with it so far with the exception of taking several screenshots a day due to the location of the power and volume buttons. I didn’t really like the default launcher so I’m using Evie, the camera with the AI function is superb.

Thanks everyone, in the end I used the eBay 10% voucher, £37 worth of nectar and got the Honor 10 for £295, I’ve not had a play with it yet but will let you know what I think. Other phones that made the shortlist are the g6, g6 plus, honor 9, honor 10 view, mate 10 and one plus 6 but that was a grey import.

That’s kind of the decision I’ve given myself, the best of the brand new budget/mid range phones with the moto g6 plus or an 18month since release flagship Google phone.

I’ve had a gander at the Huawei p20 lite but reviews are not great.
