Merlin cycles have them in stock

    http://www.merlincycles.com/bike-shop/mtb-parts/mtb-accessories/headsets-1/hope-pick-n-mix-headset-cups.html

I have emailed CRC about them in the past when merlin were out of stock and they said they do not stock them, i guess it would be in conflict with the the nuke proof ones they sell.

As long as no parts are damaged like the axle, the play will probably be from the bearings. A bearing change should sort it. Hope have a great video on how to do it on there web site.

    7) car has had a johnny 5 like moment and after its owner posting a what shoes tread on STW decided it could no longer rely on it’s owners own decision making skills and has finally taken control of it’s self !?!? 😉

Hope you have managed to get it sorted mol, sounds a very weird fault.

I have had one of these topeak ones for the past 2-3 years, only use it for mountain biking but it has been great.

I thought 49.5mm was standard but according the doc below they can vary,

Have a look at this tech doc from hope, you can buy the lower cups individually from merlincycles, hopefully one will suit for you.

    Yup, pretty much.
You should check the length of taper in relation to the head tube length, you may need to get an external lower cup to allow the fork to fit properly.
Also you should check the ID of the cannondale head tube I am not sure if they are standard 1.5 diameter or different. This may influence your choice of headset as well.

If you want to get on the housing ladder but can not afford to on your own then look around at the other options in your area. There are often shared equity schemes and it may be possible to apply for council housing. Your other option is if you do not like the place you live just now is move out, downsize, move further out of town, move into a less expensive neighborhood and commute to work on foot or by bike to save more cash.

Remove your blinkers to one way to do things and see what is out there to help you. These other ways my not be the most strait forward or ideal in the short term but they may be able to give you the leg up you are looking for.

Fun/quirky tags by forum users names doesn’t seem to suit this forum and the mentalitly of how it is run. On other forums i use they do add to the banter and slightly childish humor/ribbing that goes on, most of which is already frowned apon on here.

My email is in my profile if i forget to update the thread. Don’t know if you have had to or will be having to apply for planning but am happy to answer questions. I did that side of things myself and it was not the most strait forward.

Greybeard – that rule applies in Aberdeen, as well as no surface water to drain onto the public road no loose materials can be used within the first 2 meters of the driveway.

Yup estimated at 1K to drop the kerb and re-enforce the pavement.

As it is the councils property i can not touch it. If i do they can charge me for them to put it back to original and then again to drop the kerb.

As i had to apply for planning and the roads department had to review the proposal to get the driveway they know it need done so there is no point in chancing it.

4m x 2.5m is pretty small for a driveway! I am in the process of getting one put in at my place in Aberdeen and the council up here will not let you put one in unless it is a minimum of 5m long.

I am getting quotes in at the moment for a drive 3.5m wide by 7m long so will try and remember to return when the prices come through. Guestimationms from companies have been about the 2K mark for a driveway that size constructed from lockblock paving and then it is going to be about another 1K to get the local council to drop the kerb.

Don’t know about salad leaves but for vegetables my mum has a tupperwear type box with a tray in the bottom of it. The tray has holes so any water from the veg drops down below where the veg is stored and that seems to keep the veg better for much longer.

Would it not make more sense to mount the socket on the wall of the van behind the removable bench then intigrate a short extention into the bench that allows access to a second socket once the bench is in place?

If you want to buy the hope specific tools these should be all the ones you will need

Regular Pro2 kit to do front and rear (front pro2Evo is no different from the Pro2 apart from the laser etching)
    http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/38/httpro2/hope-pro-2-hub-tool-kit-complete.html

Additional Pro2Evo rear bearing kit (think this must be for the free hub bearing)
    http://www.ukbikestore.co.uk/product/38/htt182/hope-pro-2-evo-rear-bearing-support-bush-kit.html

Optional additional support bush (you can use a thick cardboard tube or a bit of wood with a hole drilled in it instead of this)

A few years back the east coast main line was aquired by National Express who payed way over the odds for the service, a year or so later they wen’t bust as they has massively over estimated what they could charge people to trvel, that service in now publicly owned and run under the banner East Coast Trains.

The two times the company changed my old man who worked on the trains got letters through from the unioin and new contracts were arranged so no benifits were lost. At the end of the day the new employer needs the staff from the old buisnes to keep things going.

If First have as reported on the local news here in Aberdeen have paid substantially more for the service than Virgin were willing to pay i would say it will be highly unlikely that fares will remain the same and traveling by train will become much more expensive.

By going narrower you also have to stretch the tyre to get it to fit which is not ideal for the tyre and would further reduce the overall diamiter of the wheel.

As well as all the things PP mentioned it will also throw the calibration of your speedo out a little.

The dare2be clothing seems to size up funny, there was a bunch of people on the forum who all got cycling jackets on the cheap from dare2be direct and the sizing seemed a bit all over the shop. There was pages and pages of swap Medium for Large etc.

It is funny now i have had time to think about it but at the time it was a real oh FFS moment.

I am hoping they do have a pic, it would be nice to get their copy to see what the hell the guy was thinking especially as i now have the ball ache of protesting the fine.

you don’t need to drill a big hole there are anchors out there that you drill 4 holes then epoxy in the bolts. the epoxy is actually harder than the concrete.

Didn’t realise the Canyon was all sold out, sorry about that.

There are a few bikes on pauls cycles arround the £750 mark

    http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m7b0s6p0

A Scott spark, Cannondale CAAD8, Cannondale Synapse and a Giant TCR 2 these all come with Tiagra rather than 105 that the Canyon had but seem to be a couple of hundred pounds off RRP and are in a selection of sizes.

Can you push your insurers for a cash pay out instead of going through wheelies?

Stanfree posted a thread the other week on road bikes about the £700 mark and this Canyon came up that seems like a cracking bike for the money.

For various bearing replacment ideas have a look at the following videos

    Keasae’s you tube channel
    http://www.youtube.com/user/KaeSae1/videos

Hopes vid for removing BB bearings
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UAqAanDsAKA

Various vids from Hope on how to service hubs etc
    http://www.hopetech.com/page.aspx?itemID=SPG219

most of these vidoes use drifts/presses to remove and replace the bearings, for all but some of your frame bearings i would think this method would work for you too. I don’t know your frame to know if you will need a blind puller to remove any of the bearings but am sure other will be able to advise.

When i cook steaks i put oil, salt and pepper on the steaks and leave them to sit on a plate and get to room temperature. I will then get the griddle pan as hot as i can then cook as required.

You get specific tools for specific bearing sizes. You can press bearings in in different ways too, they can be tapped in with a hammer and a drift, pressed in using a vice.

    What frame and what hubs?

So far all done by eye and what looks right for the speakers and space i want to put them in. I didn’t realise there was a scientific way of calculating the air space required!

The speakers are just regular in door types rather than a large sub or 6×9 so i figured they would have limited air space in general fitting it wouldn’t matter when it came to putting them in a box.

Stumpy01 that is my job for tonight! Wash and vacuum the car 🙄

Building the speakers seemed a far more interesting prospect over the weekend, however it was mentioned last night that they may be a little large for there application as the shed is only 6’x8’ and the speakers are 400x220x110 mm.

There i a video on the hope tech website which goes through replacing the axle etc YMWN you should take a look so you know if you LBS it talking crap or not.

The only point a Pro 2 hub becomes un servicable is if the hub flanges are damaged, hope can swap out the ratchet ring inside the hub and all other parts are available to buy.

Yup, pretty much. Integrated head sets are a no go. But internal/zero stack can be made to work.

Remember that you will be extending the Axle to Crown length by fitting an external lower race that may throw out the angles on the bike especially if you are using the 1.5 steerer fork to lenghten the trave on a given frame. And you will need a longer steerer tube to accomodate the extra stack hight of the overall headtube and headset.
