The King BB seems to be compatible with both.

If you went to the Hollowtech II standard you could use Shimano, Race Face, Middleburn and a host of others cranks but the gxp stuff would need n adapter to work as it is a smaller diameter axle.

    So whats bb30?

Press Fit. BB is back enclosed in the frame but the BB housing is significantly larger to house it. Frame is not threaded BB cups are pressed into the frame.

If it was me i’d ditch the gxp and go with standard Hollowtech II stuff because i have not heard anything good about the gxp bottom brackets but you pays your money you makes your choice and go with what you want.

A quick look in the chris king website shows this
    http://chrisking.com/bottombracket

    COMPATIBILITY
We offer our bottom bracket cups in combination with a plastic center sleeve and three anodized 2.5mm chainline spacers for 24mm crank axle systems such as Shimano Hollowtech II. Only 108 grams.

Also available is the SRAM-compatible 24mm stepped axle configuration. The stepped axle Chris King bottom bracket makes use of a fit kit to match the crank axle to our standard cups and bearings but without use of chainline spacers. 125 grams.

So you could upgrade the BB to a Chris King then if you change the cranks at a later date you could remove the fit kit and re-use the BB.

Not sure about King but Hope do GXP adapters for their BB’s. Any 68/73 BB will fit the frame but the axle size may be an issue.

From memory the GXP axle is 23mm where Hollowtech 2 is 25mm the King BB’s are designed to be used primarily with Hollowtech II hence needing the adapter to drop the size down for GXP axles.

68/73 is a standard size and the difference between the two numbers is made up by spacers on the BB.

If you are replacing the BB you can move away from the SRAM/Truvativ GPX axle standard if you want.

I couldn’t find any specifications on the bike to be able to tell if the BB is Press fit or an external one but an external one looks like this

If your looks like above pretty much any Hollowteck II or GPX crank should fit your bike with the matching BB.

You are spot on with the Hope cups 2, H. I have a hope headset sat in a box at home for when the NP one fails. So far the NP one is fine but the Hope definately look like it is better sealed than the NP one.

I can not remember if the hope bits came with a top cap or not, I think not but can’t be certain.

I have no experiance with the superstar one.

If you go for it now and find the current shock is not suited to you then you could get it re-tuned by the likes of Loco tuning for aprox £40.

Cougar, as you are back another noob question –

I seem to have 3 Java programs on my netbook, J2SE runtime 5, Java 6 something (already uninstalled) and Java 7.10.

If i want rid of Java but want to be able to use web sites running java script is it ok to remove them all?

    From Cougars link

A zero-day (or zero-hour or day zero) attack or threat is an attack that exploits a previously unknown vulnerability in a computer application, meaning that the attack occurs on “day zero” of awareness of the vulnerability.[1] This means that the developers have had zero days to address and patch the vulnerability. Zero-day exploits (actual software that uses a security hole to carry out an attack) are used or shared by attackers before the developer of the target software knows about the vulnerability.

If i just use my computer for surfing and typing documents and emails am i as well just ditching Java?

If you schedule allows for a daytime ride and you head east to Gullane or North Berwick there is an excelent cafe/bakery in Gullane called Falco. They do very lovely hand made cakes. it is on the high street just at the trafic lights for the pedestrian crossing.

tacopowel was looking for on last week. He started a thread about the Kili Flyer v Dialled PA.

That is a lovely frame at a bargin price. I would have snapped it up if i had not just got a new Genesis Latitude last week.

Wally to summerise the other thread.

Previously if you rolled over your insurance on the renewal price then you kept the original terms and conditions, if you felt this price was too hefty then canceled and took out a new policy the 4K limit on any individual item was reduced to 2K and i am unsure if bikes were covered in that.

From your next renewal there will be a policy update to align all policys with the lower individual item limit, however you can still list the bikes as individual items at an additional expense.

OP, i’d recommend going for 2 or 3 anchor points and chains and locking the bikes in pairs. One thing i have found since locking mine up is it is a PITA getting to the bike at the back of the pile once they are all locked together.

A 16mm chain is a BIG chain, it will also be very heavy and if constantly being moved over delicate bike parts or frmaes may damage them if you are clumsy. 13mm is what i use and it is a big chin in comparison to any you will see in a bike shop. You could get a much more practical set up with 2 or 3 of the 13mm chain, lock, anchor packages rather than 1 long 16mm chain, lock, anchor deal.

I would recommend this place as a good starting point.

They have a lot of excellent information about chains, locks and anchors.

Is the light old? Could you send it back under warranty? or have you tried exposure to find out what they would charge to replace the battery in it?

If not, smudge was providing cells for the joystick lights and trout was replacing them for those that didn’t have tools etc. If you email trout through his web site he may be able to advise what he would charge to replace the battery if it is possible.

If you are not getting a good signal through your ariel then it may be benificial to put up a dish and go for freesat, however shop arround and see what an ariel installer would charge for a dish and look at getting one of the hummax PVR’s that will allow you to record the freesat channels as and when you want with no subscription.

Don’t suppose any of you are currently running Windows 8 on a netbook. Only reason is i was looking to upgrade the memory in mine and Curcial were offering SSD as well as memory and wondered if i should just go the whole hog and upgrade the HDD and OS at the same time?

I selected free shipping think it is 3-5 days so no harm no foul in my book. Not to bothered if Evans have a modern warehousing system or if it is a bunch of blokes with a Biro and post it notes.

If I need something now or for tomorrow I go to the LBS.

What is the big beef with Evans Hora?

    Dan,

I ride every now and then with the neeps, pretty sure i rode at Scolty with you and Terry and a few others.

Our first is due at the beginning of March and my better half has grand plans for me to take the baby out in the car seat in the trailer to get some exercise and give her some peace and quiet for a little while.

If you have that kind of coin to spend you could get some custom Revelations made up by LoCo with U-Turn and the latest damping.

Your best bet will probably be to get a 2nd hand frame and then get it powder coated in the colour of your/her choice.

    Some thing like this ?

You need to change the code you copy to the BB code in Flickr then paste that rather than the code you just coppied and you’ll have it.

Would 30.9 not be more appropriate to give you a stronger shim??? It is still a standard size for dropper posts and if it is a known weak point I’d want as much material there as possible.
