Seeming the haven stems are so cheap at merlin it would be rude not to purchase a 55mm one and try it out.

Would widening your bars and getting a slightly shorter stem result in roughly the same reach/riding position. I currently run 711 bars with a 70mm stem and I have some 750mm bars coming and wondering if I could run a 55mm stem instead of the 70mm one. I ask as the riding position is the shortest it can be for comfort and efficiency but I cant run the saddle any further back.

I think the black body with mag face plate looks the best, goes really well with the carbon bars. I have the same set up untill my carbon havoc bars arrive next week. At these prices you could buy a couple in different styles and sell the one you don’t want on eBay for a profit!

The Crankbrothers Cobalt grips are sweet and lasting really well for me with no signs of wear in 6 months of winter riding.

arghh. Wondering if I should return my still boxed Haven bars to CRC and buy some Havocs…arghh decisions decisions…do I need and extra 1 1/2 fingers width per side as a trade off for heavier and stiffer bars?

    Yes you do!

You will find that all it will do when in your frame is rotate against the frame, hence why I have just purchased a couple of needle bearing kits for my bike.

Cheers for the info lads, retro83 you can get them for fox shocks from BETD but they only have the shaft in 22mm length which fits one of my ends but I’m going to get another made locally to fit the extra 2mm I need. Also needed to purchase extra punch to fit but was only £6 from BETD.

Had the TFT ones fitted but don’t like them, I used to have the BETD ones which are good but thought I would try the needle bearings as can get replacements locally for the same cost as a bush.

Just asking as I was last their in September I think and they have always been good, but on that day I even had to pedal on the descents  It was a very disappointing days riding which I ended early, seemed like a thousand horses had been over the trails and churned them up like a farmers field!

Panasonics are considered the best 18650 cells, the XTAR use these cells but put a protection circuit on them to protect against over charging and discharging. I have the Panasonic cells and have discharged and then charged to check the capacity and it is spot on.

I would say a Yeti ASR-5 but I’m biased as love mine. The orange 5’s always look appealing to me as well.

I used to commute on XX group set. Only thing I noticed was I would go through cassettes a lot quicker than friends, would also need to replace my rear tyre a lot which can get expensive as used to run conti black chilli tyres. Nothing else wore out, I would look at getting a spare rear wheel with XT cassette on and a slick-ish tyre.

If you do the beast, after the half way tea stop house keep climbing to the top of the very steep road (don’t cut right onto the fire road where your meant to as this is just all fire trail up then down and a waste of time) take the 2nd road on the right at the very top (3rd if you count the fire trail your meant to take) go through/past the gate as will lead you to the start of the Gomez descent.

I got my 7oz tub of U.S. amazon but that ebay one above is cheaper. You can only get the small tubes in the UK which are really expensive. Very good product, you have to heat the leather up so the sno seal is drawn deep into the leather. Only down side on this product is it turns the saddle very dark.

+1 for using sno seal, really waterproof’s it, 1000 times better than proofide.

They will all fit on your free hub, the only different size I believe is when you get to 7/8 speed.

The use of CO2 does speed up the formation of the buggers in Stans milk as it dissolves in the water content and changes the acidity in the mix which in the long run ties up the ammonium, The ammonia in the solution is what keeps it stable and stops it solidifying/turning into rubber. Try tyreinflators, they are the cheapest for the CO2 cartridges and the chuck you will need. Also try Bontrager TLR tyres, they are the best I have ever tried and seal easily with a pump and no need to half kill yourself!

Another one for the lezyne mini drive. Had the topeak mtn morph before but they don’t last. The beauty of the lezyne design is using the old school flexi hose means theirs no pressure on the valve so no chance of deforming it. Look at the newer lezyne mini drives which have the high pressure hose which you can also use with CO2 cartridges:

Really easy to make your own, use the link below which you can change the number in series and parallel etc and it will show you how to connect, also will show you how to connect the balance wiring if using it. Use the 2nd down diagram/converter on the page. You only need protected cells if running in series so for your planned pack their is no need:

    http://scriptasylum.com/rc_speed/lipo.html

The good thing about making your own is you can choose the quality/power of the battery used. 2 links below to ebay sales of very good batteries:
    Xtar protected 18650 cells 3100mah

    18650 panasonic cells 3100mah

    battery pack shrink tube link

    Plastidip to waterproof your pack

Was also going to mention that smudge makes very good battery packs (www.mtbbatteries.co.uk)
