I can’t see this ending well. Seems so out of sorts with the Alpkit brand.

“The plan is to be in a fairly unique position over the next year of being able to kit out a complete bikepacking setup. Luggage, clothing cookware, shelter, sounds like all we need is 650b+ titanium bikepacking bike”

His pupils react to light, and they’re going to very slightly reduce the amount of sedation he’s under. Having stuck pins in his legs yesterday, they’re going to be replaced with a rod in a few days time.

    Sounds positive.

There are lots of people who’ve done what your son have done, survived, and have changed for the better as a result of their near death experience.

Hopefully that will be the case.

Has anyone seen the price of motorhomes?

Yes I have. I think we got 28K for ours 8 years ago.

A two person Kangoo with a mattress and sink in the back is not a Chausson or a Hymer though.

I’v got a ’53 Kangoo with similar miles. It’s become a money pit.

If it wasn’t fitted out, you’d get £500-£1000.

    Is the interior worth £2+K?

Nice to see him wearing gloves when loading up the Codepack. His hands and wrists will surely thank him.

Think they are only doing the KM version this year, as a proving exercise i assume.

Website says both KM and Miles courses.

Once were Warriors “make the man some *ing eggs”.

Must be 20 years since I’ve seen that film. As splorer alludes to up there there were no happy smily faces leaving the cinema.

Yep at first they need a good push on the button to get them going.

We’ve got two, one was harder to fire up at first. They’re both fine now though.

richpips » I met my wife in a lift.

I’m trying to think through how that would work? What’s your opening gambit? [/quote]

We both worked in the same building.

There were no chat up lines. Well not in the lift.

At the party I remember her talking about a football match.

I snogged her to get her to change the subject. I don’t think we’ve had a conversation about football since.

I met my wife in a lift. I thought she was pretty, but a bit crazy.

A week later I saw her at a party.

Been together for 20 years now.

    Happy days.

I have toyed with the idea – I fancy the challenge. The key seems to be finding a hill at the right gradient you can spin up but is steep enough that you get a good climb to distance ratio

Imho if you can find a hill with an average of 10% and not too much 20% it’s not too hard.

Nearer 5% and you have to ride a long way.

Not sure I get this to be honest, riding the same hill over and over again seems like a waste of good riding time where you could be doing something not utterly mundane.

I really enjoyed it. It was far from mundane.

Yep, our new tandem will run 650B+ for rough off road, and 29 for fast off road touring.

Wonder if an off road hill could be easier/more interesting, or if that’s just stupid.

Laurie Lambeth did it on a fire road http://www.everestinguk.com/2014/08/off-road-everesting-chapel-house-wood.html .

Problem is finding a hill that as you say is interesting, and all rideable. (No walking allowed)

Do you have to officially register an “everest” or just do it?
Thinking of doing one in Tenerife. 7 ascents of the big hill should do it.

Nah, just do it. Then send the gpx to Andy at everestng.cc

Was it terrahawk who did this last year? 27 times up Cragg vale, i’m intrigued……

Nope Dave Haygarth had a go at it though.

The Peak does seem to have more than it’s fair share of angry walkers though.

Ime even if you play nice and legal there are miserable gits who for some reason feel the need to try and spoil your day.

Cracken Edge from Peep o’ Day farm to Chinley.

Awhile back I heard from one of the Chinley contingent that the locals were hacked off with mountain bikers riding there.

Odd really, as you rarely encounter folk either on or off a bike there.

Funny this came back up today. Was pondering it over the weekend, and it struck me as odd that we seemed a bit wary of a child running distances the week after mini pips came 61st at Strathpuffer and became a hero ( quite rightly)

I have had a few people say to me that my son shouldn’t be riding his bike such long distances. Not based on any science, but on their gut feeling that kids shouldn’t do such things. Whilst I would expect that from the sedentary types, a number of the critics are fit people with their own children which I find depressing.

If a kid wants to run faster or ride longer then I don’t see a problem.
