Suitably curious…cued up the sample, although for 77p I might just take the punt
RDL-82Free MemberLooks fun…just need this bloody cold to go now :-/
Some fast times going on here, I can manage a sub 25 but I’m blowing out of every orifice by then!

If it is a single peice, that Hope ring is totally daft. The amount of metal they have to cut away to leave that is huge. And for a chainrings that will wear out quickly.Yep, seen it, and held it, very light and very one piece…agree though a lot of effort for something that’s a disposable item really, it’s Hope though so it’ll sell like hot cakes!
RDL-82Free MemberYeah guessed it was after having a look around and noticed I was already following you. Just need to get my backside in gear now :)
RDL-82Free MemberSent one to your profile email if you haven’t already had one off the others
RDL-82Free MemberOk I’m in, thanks to whoever the invite was from as for some reason the email doesn’t say, all it says is…
‘. is looking for more people to join him on Fitocracy…’
So whoever it was, cheers and who are you? I can follow you and see what I’ve got myself in for!
My user is RDL-82 if anyone wants to follow, however don’t expect much this month as I’m on pain of serious sulking if I don’t make the house liveable again!
Edit: I’m assuming the invite was from Coffeking as it seems I’m already following him/you.

RDL-82Free MemberPlay online occasionally, really depends on the lobby though, some just can’t take being passed so either leave or go out of their way to hit you on the next corner. Get a good lobby or private and it’s great.

Any thought of starting an STW club save on the destruction derby tools?
RDL-82Free MemberPossibly similar to this…
http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/rs-pike-454-coil-rebound-problemRDL-82Free MemberI’ve got one of the old dealextreme bastid lights from a couple of years ago, bright enough for me in general a second on the bars would be perfect. I’d rather have a long battery life however rather than more and more lumens or whatever. The trouble is they seem to cost too much for me to justify for few months of use the lights get where the extra runtime would be beneficial.
Something a touch brighter than my old bastid witha great battery life and a reasonable price and I’d be happy.RDL-82Free MemberSo tempted to have a go on an old wheel, it’s just the cost of tools etc.
Did you use a dishing tool or improvise something?RDL-82Free MemberAssuming you’ve bought a Hope headset and want the top cap to match then in all honesty I’d just use the top cap and bolt from the hope with the sfn already fitted and not bother with the expanding wedge part of the hed doctor more faff and in hindsight is what I would do next time.
RDL-82Free MemberDrill the threaded insert out then pull the rest out as it should have lost all support strength then.
Worked for me anywaysRDL-82Free MemberWent from a Hex to a Xar, much comfier and cooler IMO, can’t comment on the colours, I got a safe old black!
Only thing that annoys me at times is the new roc loc fail thingy me-bob at the back, always seems to pull some hair out after use!RDL-82Free Member<cough cheeky plug> http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/cotic-bfe-19-gritstone <cough cheeky plug> :)
Seriously capable ride though and on the sadly limited occasions I got to ride this year, it was more than apable of all dayers, did a couple of 8hrs on it. Sweet at 120mm and silly fun at 140+mm when pointing it at the fun stuff.
RDL-82Free MemberNo problem, curious more than anything, they push the scheme quite a lot but are themselves getting arsey about the bikes everywhere.
My bike isnt cycle scheme btw, however I’m now part of a problem that didnt exist last year when only a few of us where cycling as we already did.
Maybe they’ll get annoyed enough to provide something :DCar parks a no go, that a whole other kettle of theft and vandalism.
RDL-82Free MemberSeen them, I want a 26″ frame only. Plenty of nice steel frames (I’ve got one) however I want a nice light alloy to try out
RDL-82Free MemberI’m not so much bothered about the swap-outs for the ability to change between ss and gears, rather I just want a nice lightweight SS only frame and see the swap-outs as a way of achieving that on the Scandal.
In my personal opinion i think tensioners and slots with a gear hanger thats not being used look rubbish, therefore id rather not have them if possible.
Anyone know of a nice lightweight alloy SS only frame?
RDL-82Free MemberBrant, can you tell me whether we’ll see the 26″ Scandal with swap-outs or is just the 29″ getting them?
RDL-82Free MemberWhen did it change then? I spent £30 last week and it was reduced in the basket once I logged in. I know they have a few items listed ‘best price on the web’ or something and they don’t seem to get any further discount added.
RDL-82Free MemberVirtual pint and mucho thanks to ‘bigyinn’ for the hot water idea. Insert in, just gonna flush the fluid through just incase now.
Calm and happy again :)RDL-82Free MemberWould that not be risky with getting the oil contaminated so to speak, or we talking flushing it out and starting again?
RDL-82Free MemberYeah cut it a bit lower and very tediously cut the insert out, exactly the same :-( don’t fancy cutting anymore hose as I’ll be approaching it being close to too short.
Leave it until the morning now, getting fed up and that’s just a recipe for disaster.RDL-82Free MemberDone all that hence the stress, I know it’s not (or at least shouldnt be) but its as if it’s just too fat. Just stuck now.
RDL-82Free MemberOk, just finished this, piece of cake really.
No pictures as i was feeling lazy in that respect, but tbh they’re not needed.
For reference the bearings on my wheel (2009) are 6000 2RS, no doubt they all are.
1. Remove freewheel. (may not be needed but i had mine off for a change anyway)
2. Remove end caps. Drive side has a 2mm grub screw holding it on.
3. Tap axle from drive side until the non-drive side bearing falls out then repeat for the drive side.
4. Clean all surfaces up.
5. Using an 18mm socket knock the new drive side bearing back in. Fit the axle then knock the non-drive side bearing in.
6. Give the axle a light tap from both ends to seat everything right.
7. Refit end caps, freewheel etc.
8. Go ride! All in it took about 15mins, with about 5 of that wrestling with the freewheel.
Hope that helps someone.
RDL-82Free MemberCheers badlydrawnbiker. A quick look when I removed the freewheel suggested it would be, but I’m at work now (clearly busy :) ) and didn’t have time to investigate properly, so thought I have a quick check first.

I’ve got one, but never done it. I’f you’re feeling brave then document and share it!If I get chance I’ll take some pics and stick them in here.
RDL-82Free MemberI’ll be selling a Joplin 3 in the next few days (different bike now, doesn’t fit), comes with both a 30.9 and 31.6 (fitted) sleeve and a remote (fitted) and lever.
Thinking £90 delivered, mail in profile if interestedRDL-82Free MemberOne device has started, verrrryyyy slowly though, try again etc seems to be the key
RDL-82Free MemberTwo iPhone 4’s both fail with the 3200 error, consensus else where seems to be restart phone and/or computer then try again, and again, and again…until it finally works
RDL-82Free MemberAnother vote for the BFe (is it winning vote wise?!) Was going to get rid of mine due to other circumstances and go to one bike, I just cant bring myself to get rid of it.
Had a 456, a Ragley Mmmbop and now the BFe, it IMO blows the other two out of the water(same components only frame changed), can’t say whether its the build quality/material, the angles or some magic that Cy knows but it just rides so well, and as a consequence I’m riding the same lines faster and harder than on the other two. Rides best at 120mm as well IMO, but that’s horses for courses as someone else will say 140-150-160 whatever!RE. People saying it’s slacker than a Soul, iirc they are the same for a given fork length just the BFe will take a longer overall fork and the Soul is lighter (open to correction though)

Are supposed to be good, not tried, but its what i’ll be getting next, 1 1/8th though. Stay away from SRAM PC01 though, shitty stretch-tastic things
RDL-82Free MemberI can second the BBB ones that foxy mentions, quite and lasting well, available with ceramic bearing as well but ididnt bother.
Got mine from DotBike again as mentioned.RDL-82Free MemberLooks ace and so good in the flesh. They had one in the new Evans Cycles at the National Cycle Centre/Velodrome in Manchester when I was in earlier today. They also have a very nicely built Niner Air which was dripping in kit with a price tag to match. Not sure what sort of clientell other than the bmx kids they’re expecting through those doors but some very fancy kit available.
Should look great when finished, all black stealth?
RDL-82Free MemberGood run for your money, your referring to the Manchester to Hartshead Pike TT current record holder there mate!
I gave you that one to stop you sulking ;) slow and steady mate it’s all day long that counts!
What makes it for me? Steel frame, 29er, light wheelset, decent fork and some small bar ends help when you need to get out the saddle.
That’s the plan minus the 29er bit, although tempted to try one it’s an expense I can’t afford at present, something for later!
RDL-82Free MemberIs the SS frame a nicer one that the geared?
Quite different from each other really, a Genesis IO rigid carbon fork and a Cotic BFe, which spends it’s life at 120mm (rides best IMO).
As for nicer, I like them both and would keep both, but one needs to go realistically. As I’ve said earlier though, put a suspension fork on the IO and I doubt I’d miss the extra 20mm on the BFe, other than the extra burliness of it all.For the OP – I’d build whatever gave me the most smiles per mile. I’d probably stick with a really nice ss if I didn’t ride with other geared riders so often, I prefer it on my own.
With a sus fork it’d have to be the ss I’d say. As for keeping up, I don’t feel that’d be too much of an issue with the group I ride with when not solo, although if Dave’s reading he’ll be sure to give me a good run for my money!
RDL-82Free MemberI love my rigid ss however I personally feel it being held back by not having some suspension up front to take some of the sting out, plus I just have visions of carbon splinters flying everywhere and me doing my best superman impression!
Even on my last trip to Wales, where I rode the Pont Scethin route and The Beast at CYB, I chose to take the ss. I just like riding it more.
It’s a 26″ wheeler and I run 32:17 usually, but pop an 18t on for Wales / Peak District etc.Cool, I’m sold, better get busy over the weekend! Think I build it up with the bits I was going to use off the other bike anyway, give it a month or so, they make a 100% descision either way, strongly suspect it’ll be the ss that’s wins out though.
Cheers for your imput guys
RDL-82Free MemberThere are places though where SS would just be miserable. Spain for example.
Chance would be nice!
Live in North York Moors and ridden SS all over, including lakes and Calderdale – which is particularly challenging on one gear, but you get used to it pretty quickly!
That’s what I want to here!
Cheers guys, pretty much decided I’m going to do it now anyway, so before I drag the tools out and butcher the nice bits off the other bike, anyone else want to offer anything or tell me I’m sure to die ;)
RDL-82Free MemberI’m told that 34:19 on 29er is about the same as 32:16 on 26″ wheels but I haven’t done the calculations.
Thought it was the case.
The end of the day I’ll either get stronger or blow my knees apart, now then, do I need to start on the beard!
