the other alternative is to take the digital rights off the books, using calibre. Then you can load them onto whatever you want.

Apparently we’ve 1356 people in our council ward. Of which, 1304 are white, 1254 British.

There are 3 Indians and no Pakistani/Bangladeshi. Fourteen black, and two arabs.

Quite homogeneous really.

Having said that, I live next to a Japanese woman. And one of my friends on the road does have an Irish passport! :D

Um. together at 19, married at 26, still together 14 years later.

More than half my life!

Which is nice.

i’ve got a wahoo. Very good indeed; so easy to use. Maps are good, possibly not OS standard, but good enough. The LEDs are great for following a route, but the ease of customization is the best bit.

Check here. I have a few of these; they’re very good and an awful lot cheaper than the rest.

Someone tried to go through one at the station once. Hardly a mark on it

I can get a bike (either road or MTB) in the back of a 59 reg panda (like this one)

simple; rear seat down. Front wheel off. Goes in easily

I cycle in occasionally in the summer; once a week at least.

It’s at least 25 miles, with about 700m of climb each way. Loads of short sharp hills.

To make it nice and easy for me, I drive in, leave the car at work and cycle home. Then next day I cycle in, and then drive home.

Works for me. We have a secure compound, so the car is probably safer here than at home, it means I’m not too knackered at the end of the day. And because you’re only doing one way, it doesn’t really feel like a commute. Makes it more fun.

Also means there’s a car to store clothes/laptops and the rest. Means you don’t have to carry it in.

we pay for everything out of my salary. My wife is on my credit card; not even sure she has one in her name. If I’m lucky, I don’t pay for my birthday presents.

Hers mostly gets saved, or helps me out at Xmas, or when she’s put 6 AirBNB properties on the credit card in the same month 8O

This means I generally have no money. This is good; I would spend it on rubbish.

It’s also good for tax; she pays less than me, so obviously pays less on interest.

She’s also the one who does the spreadsheet, and knows [virtually] instantly how much we spent on piano lessons in 2014.

Her father was a bank manager. :D

I have to say this is one job I voluntarily emasculate myself, and get a man in. I don’t even attempt them now.

There’s only so much swearing my wife can put up with, so surprisingly she agrees.

It costs (I think) £25 an hour. Say a couple of hours. But he’ll have a drill better than mine, and bits much better. And he’ll have more of them. No having to drive to a hardware to fork over vast amounts on a sunday afternoon.

the sat at the desk rate may be increased by the coffee of course…

the tickr (trendy wahoo name, obv) is a chest strap model, so no idea of the cadence. Their cadence thingy, despite being an accelerometer doesn’t work without the elemnt.

But – anecdotally – my feet were hitting the ground a lot less than the chap I was running with.

I’ve been wearing it since lunch; seem to be average about 72-75 whilst sat at the desk.

Hypothermia? Nah. Always been of the opinion if you’re feeling cold, just run a bit faster.

Sometimes the fingers get a bit fresh, but gloves for that.

Can’t remember the last time I wore long bibs on the bike. If it’s below freezing, then maybe put another top on.

Northern? No. A right southern nancy chap.

Just get warm. Did a fell run on 27th Dec; started at -3c or something. Was in shorts and t shirt for that. Ended up just running in shorts on the 5th hill, much to my son’s embarrassment.

Always been a problem; generally stay flushed for a good few hours after exercise, and then go back to the normal pasty English pallor.

Grand. Cheers. I’ll ignore it, and just go with.

Even at the max, having a conversation was fine (apart from the wind of course)

heart rate max was 220-age, or 217 -(0.85*age) or 207 -(0.7*age)

all about the same.

thanks – i’ll have a shufti at the FTHR, and see what’s what.

Have to say i generally don’t seem to get out of breath; the legs go first on running or cycling.

I think we’ve got three days in dubrovnik, three in mljet, two in korcula, three in Bol, and then a few in split (partly to head further up for a day or so). Gradually booking up all the airbnbs we can.

oooh. Looks like my holiday plans of flying into Split, island hopping for a week or so, and then out of Dubrovnik could be a good move…

excellent! :D

We’ve stayed here a couple of times. Lovely. Close enough to town for fresh croissants (they do them there but it’s not the same) but far enough for a bit of peace .

Only slight downside is BBQs are verboten due to pine woods and dryness.

Also here in Brittany. Very good. Cider farm between you and the beach. Bit cooler obv!

if you really want to bring it to Chubb’s attention, just bung it on twitter. Add in a couple of police forces and tabloid newspapers. The latter two probably won’t do anything, but it grabs attention.

i like the catherine wheel. Loads of beer and cider on tap, pieminster pies to eat.

What could possibly go wrong.

funnily enough a plot of land came available in our village as “Grazing land”. It was bought (quickly), subdivided, and then remarketed with nice CGI of expensive houses on. Snapped up at auction

The chances of anything being built on it in the near future (next ten years?) is minuscule. It’s outside the village (which is designated a village, so only infill allowed), on a busy road with no decent sight line, in an AONB, in a SSSI, on a flood plain.

Etc etc.

Never say never, but as above, don’t believe the estate agent.

cats lick their paws a lot, especially cleaning.

I’ve heard people use things like this, which gets on their paws. It’ll probably deter them.

You may need to replenish after heavy rain. And of course you can use the rest in cooking.

No use for me unfortunately; a garden with no fences at all, in an area where every other house has at least one cat. The kids now know to check the garden before playing.

But as the cats generally seem to use the same place on a regular basis, you can just check that place. If you clean it up, sprinkle a dash of vinegar or similar, they lose the attractive latrine smell. They will just set up elsewhere though, so when they find a place that is ‘acceptable’ just let them continue!

just do it all.

We’ve the inlaws for xmas. But on Xmas eve (and the torchlight procession) we’ve the inlaws, my parents, my brothers and their families, which (as is possibly normal in Norfolk) includes my wife’s cousin. So her aunt and uncle are coming as well.

busy busy. Lucky I get on with them all.

Odd to say that about a Christmas tree stand to be fair.

Another vote for the Spa Aire (albeit I’ve got the Ti model on a road bike).

Lovely. Can really go for hours on it before noticing it.

The underside coating means it’s slightly easier to look after, but you still have to treat the top. And I’m more fanatical about mudguards, and [free] shower caps.

i take my automatic Dunhill back to Dunhill. They do a complete strip, recover the radium dial etc. Check it for a week, if it’s still loosing time, they start again.
Think the last was £200.

A foreign key constraint is looking in another table to verify the data exists of course. If it doesn’t, it won’t go in. Does that wait time exist in a waittime table elsewhere?

possibly a bit late for you, but I’m currently making a Gooseberry gin for my mother for Christmas. Decentish Waitrose Gin, 500 grams sugar, 500 grams of gooseberry. Leave them for a bit, then strain and put back in the bottle.

First impressions – it’s very nice. And you can’t buy it anywhere.

number 22 cycles are the old serotta and saratoga frameworks. they’re doing some lovely stuff, but it’s around $2400 a frameset, and with the exchange rate tanking…. 8O

I’m going through the same dilemma. Either the Wahoo, or 520, 820, or [randomly] the 64s. The latter does everything you need really, and has better mapping.

But the fears of Garmin’s rubbish OS has put me off. I think I’m going elemnt.

Not grumbling as such. Just amazed at the audacity of it. And the timing of it.

The reason the land was ‘cheap’ was the fact you can’t do anything with it…

But yes, if someone doesn’t investigate the planning issue, it’s there fault.

I split vast amounts of ash with a maul. It’s a lot easier than other wood, and only a downside when there’s a knot. It’s just a cheap drapers maul, but you will be sweating after an hour.

Aldi were just doing fiskars copy axels for £15. Quite impressed and obviously a three year period to break and take back.
