I’m 5’2″ (and a half) and I ride a 27.5 Scott Scale Contessa Hardtail. I have a friend about my height or a bit smaller who rides the 29er version of the same bike.

Oh and I meant to say he is way happier getting air than I am…

Be faster than me soon that’s for sure!

I wish I had got a video of him at the end of last season when he was still 3 – he was going faster and getting more air than he was on sunday. He will be flying by the end of this year when he has had a bit more practice. It will help when the uplift starts again, not easy on little legs getting to the top!

Just remembered about this thread and thought it would be a good place to share :D

My 8 year old was 145cm last time I measured him at least a few months ago.

His bike was finished on Saturday and ridden at LAggan on Sunday. It did the job perfectly, and I’m well chuffed – only the second bike I’ve ever built and the first was a littel kids bike so no gears or disc brakes to do. I will get a photo soon!

My tall 8 year old is still on his 16″ Mafiabike BB Kush

He has had it since he was six and when it finally falls apart he will move up to 18″

We bought my (small) 4 year old a 12″ United Recruit for his birthday even though he has rides a 16″ bike normally.

You could probably get a second hand Islabike ( Cnoc 14 or 16 depending on size) for that price. Facebook page for buying and selling Islabikes[/url]

Ridgebacks are good but a 16 might be a bit big for a 3.5 year old. Belters are also fairly large. Have you looked at Frog bikes?

My son was very small when he started riding a pedal bike. For his second birthday we upgraded from a BSO Noddy bike to a Specialized Hotrock 12. That was OK, but I wasn’t terribly impressed so I went the custom build route!

I have the same problem with my son’s new Hayes Stroker Ryde Comp.

Do I do the above faffing or just install the levers upside down? Only difference it will make, as far as I can tell, is the logos won’t be visible…

Ha ha I had the exact same moment last night

Fox PeeWee elbow pads are great for my small 4 year old. The knee pads are stiffer and more plasticy but he has never complained – we do only use pads for jump park stuff though so not heaps of pedalling.

Funnily enough the only people I have encountered that have been a bit funny about my then 3 year old being on the trails were older kids and their parents!

Is was one of those bike park places and the kids pushed (and were pushed) in front of my 3 year old so they wouldn’t be “stuck behind the little boy”

He gave them plenty of space, then promptly caught up with them :D

Smallest Puky (LRM) did ours from 18 months – he was small for his age too, only about 80cm tall.

The thing I like about the Puky is that the whole bike is small – the other bikes with a low saddle height (Strider,Cruzee) are normal size balance bikes.

And ds is now 4 and still rides his Puky occasionally.

We are still having a great season up Cairngorm (sorry to hear about missj geoff)

Highlight for me has been seeing my 4 year old progress from his first turns during the Christmas holidays to shredding the whole mountain and turning parallel (ish) and flying down a gunbarrel full of moguls!

lowlight, erm, the aforementioned 4 year old is now nearly as good skier as I am and far more relaxed and natural on his skis. I reckon by the end of next season he will be better than me.

what’s the current availability of that model?

Unavailable at the moment I believe.

Islabikes are good, however none of my 4 kids have one.

Didn’t see the update about the warmth. So looking forward to that – I do a lot of hanging about with the younger one when the others are off riding (we ride too, but not as much!)

your son has a slightly mottled bruised look about him

    Indeed!

My 4 year old has been riding a pedal bike since he was 1 (well this is a covert proud parent thread) and has been nailing runs like the Laggan Orange since he was 3, he loves jump parks and getting big air.

Luckily he is our fourth dc so I am well used to it… :D

    Thanks guys.

I have the thorn cranks. Wish I could afford the 28t, but will have to be a 30t. The lad is strong and hates his granny ring on his current bike so should be ok.

edit – just checked his current bike and his chainrings are 42/34/24, 7 speed freewheel is 14-28. I think he will be fine with the 30.

For those using a 1 X 10 set up what size chainring? Looking at a 11-36 cassette.

Flat feet and slightly bent knees, IMO.

Lower if it is being used for tricks and jumps :D

Scott also do a kids 26″ bike but off the top of my head it is about 13kg.

We are in the same position and have decided to build. Can’t afford the Whyte. And even though it looks like a quality bike the cranks are 170mm like all the other “kids” 26″ bikes.

Scotroutes – It was fantastic up Cairngorm. I’m surprised there were as many as 1000 up – we were there in the afternoon and didn’t have to wait in a single queue!

We take ours off school fairly often for a days skiing. Scotland so the weather can be unpredictable and the weekends busy. So the occasional bluebird weekday makes up for it :)
