    Cheers folks.

The Mule is fine for most rides but as you say, it’s a bit cramped if you want to carry some extra food or a waterproof for longer (or dodgy weather) rides. Sounds like the Raptor 14 is perfect!

    Now, any good deals anywhere?!

Correct – having the lockout remote means you can’t fine tune the compression damping, so it’s either locked out or not. You can convert it to the crown mounted adjustment which will give you the full compression damping adjustment by removing the damper, unhooking a spring within the damper assembly and replacing the poploc knob on the crown with a ‘normal’ one.

I’ve done half a job on mine i.e. replaced the knob, but with my one attempt so far, not managed to unhook the spring. It’s tucked away and fiddly to get to, and the spring is tight to unhook. I’ll get round to finishing it one day!

We have fly problems in our office at work when it’s warm weather so got one of those blue electric frazzlers. Has a moderate effect but only really when you turn the room lights off.

It’s quite a sight to behold when one gets fried and starts smoking (!)but then the main problem is the smell of burning hair that hangs in the air afterwards for aaggeeesssss…not nice!

On the other hand, I found Raid to really effective when we had a fly infestation last summer (live next to a farm). They were literally dropping out of the air like, well…flies! Not pleasant clearing up the bodies after though.

My Astra developed the same fault last week whilst on holiday. Local Vauxhall garage charged me £275 for new coil pack and spark plugs, including a rip off £90 for the diagnostic test.

    2012 = black collar

As I understand it, those ‘cheap’ ones bike-discount are selling are 2011 posts with 2012 internals.

Ms orena45 has one and it’s not too bad but…looks like it might be losing Android app support soon if that means anything to you

Where’d you here that ricardo? The 2008 EX9 came with an RP23 as standard (Fuel EX9) and it’s the same frame. The only real difference between the two shocks is that the RP23 has three Propedal settings to the RP2’s one AFAIK

Here was my set up (XT brakes, LX shifters)

It worked fine with just a little bit of contact between the Reverb remote and the shifter lever but not enough to affect either being operated.

Drove between Poole and Bournemouth this morning, a Total garage had reopened and people were still queueing onto the road for fuel.

I’ve never been so close to an actual facepalm.

No it’s not illegal. Tell them to chuff off, and carry on as you were.

Google Doug @ Basque mtb – he’s got a good video of how to get one off. I used his guide recently and it worked well.

simbob – likewise, mine felt like it was coming from the rear hence why I faffed with trying different cassettes and taking the freehub off to inspect it. Would definately recommend trying a new chainring.

If south Cornwall isn’t too far south (but it probably is), you can have a go on mine!

I had this exact problem this weekend after fitting a new cassette and chain – after much headscratching and thinking the freehub had gone or that it was a dodgy cassette or chain, it was simply that the (middle) chainring was worn. Put a reasonably new chainring on and all was fixed!

Whoop, will gladly show a pic of my Five I’ve literally just finished building. Was Sim’s frame as seen on the Long Term Test, but now mine (mwah ha ha ha). First ride tomorrow, can’t wait!

Thanks Wibble, thought that might be the case. Looks like another quick trip to the LBS tomorrow then otherwise it’s a CRC order-and-wait jobbie!

That would be easier yeah, although the barrel nut that screws into the lever is too big for the swingarm hole at the shock end, so would have to cut the hose and install a new olive. Most of the ‘guides’ suggest removing the caliper and feeding the hose in from the front, but again, the banjo is too big for that same hole (though not seen any mention of having to remove the banjo).

Was wondering if the banjo comes off easily enough so that I can feed the hose through without having to wait til next week before I can get some spare olives in order to cut and re-fit at the lever end?

tony24 – there is a DIY method of removing the Poploc that involves taking the damper out and unclipping the spring inside, then replacing the top cap with the standard non-remote top cap. I’m presently in the middle of doing that conversion myself but getting the spring off is proving tricky!

    EDIT – guide HERE

Are they less than 2 years old and do you still have the receipt? If so, send em back and get them fixed/replaced under warranty. That’s what I did with mine anyway.

Consider using Google+ as a blog. More likely to get people reading it and interacting with you. That’s kind of what I do and it works for me.

Ay Poldice has plenty of DH runs but it’s good for a play about on your ‘XC/trail’ bike too. There’s a good bridleway network with some good techy stuff around that area, extending towards Redruth and Camborne so plenty to link up.

The Freeriders and the Trailriders both ride around this area and both post rides on their Facebook pages so have a look for them if you’re on FB.

Stevede knows some good trails around the Helston area so might be able to help out with that area.

I have a front shifter and run a RH Reverb remote on the LH side. There’s a little bit of contact between the end of my shifter lever and the Reverb remote but not enough to hinder the action of either in any way.

Gothandy – flip the remote to the underside of the bars (albeit on the opposite side to where yours is presently, left or right), and you no longer have that worry.

The Ragley MmmBop has a 1.5″ headtube so will take a tapered fork (I’ve got one on mine), and is designed around a 120 – 150mm fork.

Not available new anymore but you should be able to pick one up 2nd hand. It’s not a looker but it rides great!

Thanks for the suggestions. Remembered I bought a Dremel a few months back, so filed back the jagged edge to a reasonable square edge as suggested and that was enough to undo it.

Pheww…had a bit of a panic on then for a moment! Will give it a good grease to make sure it’s not so bad next time. Lesson learnt :-)
