    Too tired to explain properly but it’s probably no longer inducing enough current in the pot for it to detect – see what has changed, make sure there is good electrical contact between bottom & top of maker?

    As its a suggestion that narrowly missed last week, here’s a cheeky entry from yesterday’s ride, narrowly missing this week. A shocking image but it rather conveys the speed involved I think.

    I was on the rigid karate monkey, everyone else on 5 inches of travel. The route was the rocky slopes of east dartmoor. I felt like I had brought a knife to a gunfight as we pelted down the smallacombe descent…

    Haldon forest & lustleigh – long travel hardtail singlespeed.

    Dartmoor – rigid, hub gear and BIG tyres

    Excuse my ignorance. Are locking blade types illegal to carry? If so, what’s the logic with that? I mean people are just as kill-able with any type of knife aren’t they?

    The Uk has a torturous set of knife laws – we’re the most paranoid country in the world about them if I recall correctly. It’s sort-of legal to carry a knife that locks and/or is over 3inches if you have sufficient justification, eg. you’re going camping or fishing etc. It’s not ok to have one because they’re a very useful thing to have and the locking aspect is somewhat frowned upon.
    you can carry a sub 3 inch non-locking folding knife and be ok, it’s the reason I like the svord peasant so much – it’s max length and the tang is clasped in the handle so it’s essentially impossible for it to fold on your fingers.

    Ok – how about this;

    Taken from up on top of stonyman hill it’s a view of shiphay etc. I was going to take a picture of the pier or the wheel but I rather thought I’d leave them to your good self. Good to see I guessed correctly.

    Is it cheating to have the whole of torquay – tacky little dive that it is?

    Nice to see other perspectives. I can see how it would be a fun local loop, especially on a little jumpy bike perhaps. I have to admit that the steep up and technical rooty down of local woods/lustleigh cleave or the long slog of a moorland epic are more my style than small trail centre thing. I wonder if the long-travel singlespeed that so suits my local & preferred stuff wasn’t exactly the least suitable thing to be riding here…

    It was nearly put up for 2014 but I thought south then souther would be a bit much. Besides, it ought to go to taz next year. Haldon would be the main venue with an option for a short* ride over the moor.

    Anywhere north of the South Downs is monsters and glaciers surely?

    *not everyone has the same idea of short…

    Lovely commute of 14 miles of south Devon roads including 3-4 castles and 2 big hills here. If I take the longer route I can go home via haytor for many miles of punishment bliss

    Just bought a cinelli gazzetta della strada & am very pleased. Rides best with weight up front.
