for the swiss route look here: http://www.mountainbikeland.ch/en/routes/route-03.html
the site is available in english and you can download the route or print the maps. the trail is generally rocky and be prepared for some hike-a-bike. but it’s definitely worth it.

I’ll be probably trying one of these new KS Crux ones. Cheaper than KS Lev but still quality.

Very nice build!
How old/tall is your lad? Mine is growing out of his 20″ bike too and I was wondering wether I should buy him a 24″ bike or just step up straight away and build a 26″.

Had the same question: Building an offset wheel shouldn’t be a problem, at least according to this thread.

Thanks guys! Very helpful.
So that shouldn’t be a problem.

@scotroutes
: they say it’s for a chainline of 52 mm which should support up to 30 teeth sprockets. If you need more teeth an even bigger chainline is needed. So maybe they assume that 30 isn’t enough anyway …

Yes, run this combo on my El Mariacci, both in 2.35, tubeless. Plenty of grip and I like the big volume of these. And they’re still not that heavy.

Well, compared to the toptube, the headtube is rather short. Or at least shorter than you expect it after you’ve read Surlys pacer-promo. That’s probably why most of the pacers I’ve seen are equipped with an upwards facing stem and some spacers. But then it’s more versatile. You can built it racey or make it a touring bike or whatever you like. Mine is certainly comfortable like that.

Surly Pacer again … I built this up last weekend for the same purpose. It will be getting mudguards and maybe a rack. Haven’t used it extensively yet but it is an unbelievably smooth ride for sure.

The 2014 models should come with the spacers, but not the 2015 ones, which aren’t adjustable in travel. At least the german shops show it like that (i.e. hibike.de).

The uci-link refers to the long-term uci-standings, it’s not the actual 2014 dh ranking (look at the ranking of steve smith f.e.).
Have a look here instead: Red Bull WC DH 2014 overall standings

I dont have a pension, or medical insurance, or even enough money for a tank of petrol this weekend. But there are some places where I really dont want to cut corners…

salsa Ti warbird, stans tubeless, cowbell bars, ti post, vegetable pasty, coffee and iced tea.

I like that attitude. Whether or not it is a Salsa Ti or vegetable pasta, it’s just that there are things, that make you happy now

The Swiss one on the left ist Hugo Koblet.
You can distinguish Kübler/Koblet by their nose – Küblers is more, well, eagle-like …

Just perfect! Congratulations. If it rides the way it looks, it’s a dream-machine.

70 mm stem with 4 degrees rise; race face turbine bars, 730 mm wide with 20 mm rise. As I changed from rigid to suspension forks I just flipped the stem.

The short one will be fine. I use the short one with 32/11-36, no issues at all.

Had a hernia op on both sides ten days ago. Was on my commuter today for the first time. It was alright, just have to be careful swinging the leg over the saddle. Doctors adviced me not to lift heavy things (i.e. over 5kg) for about 4 weeks. So I’ll wait with anything else than my commuting routine.

At least one year previous to last years Olympic Games he was testing all three wheelsizes on the course itself and on some course built to ressemble the one in London to some degree. He and his manager Frischknecht decided for a 27.5er because he felt the most comfortable on it and rode the fastest times. This is also due to his shortness, at least thats what the medias did spread here in Switzerland. He is just not the lanky guy like kulhavy.
But then, who knows how fast he would be on some other wheelsize… 😕
(Can’t belive I’m commenting on a wheelsize-thread here.)

My el Mariachi. I just like it if it rattles and shakes. And I love the low maintenance, low tech level approach – it still works perfect and does it for me.

well, my el mariachi would be a slim fat bike then, right?

i’ll try it, that gives me another months to raise the funds for some wider rims.

Alright then, I’ll give it a go with some ardents 2.4 or something like that. Cheers guys!

Anyone running tires wider than 2.25 on rims with 19 mm internal width? I’m using shimano mt66 wheels with nobby nics 2.25 right now and fancy something fatter. Your oppinions please?
Thanks!

I may have to add that shimano doesn’t recommend it … and they would be run tubeless.

Is the El Mariachi “that good”??? How does it ride fully rigid?? Is it good as an all day/multi day machine?

I own one for a few weeks now. Coming from a Bfe it’s quite a difference, but I have to say, at least as much fun. I’m riding it rigid with a 1/10-setup. Lighter, straighter steering and more comfortable over small rocks, faster uphill. And it’s just beautiful to look at. Can’t wait to ride the trails without the snow though. Got mine from CTBM. You won’t find something eaysier to convert from/to SS.

built up this last week:

DSC02755 von nordofjura auf Flickr[/img]

32 front with 11-36 cassette. could only test it in snowy conditions so far, but did’t outspin once, not even on the downs. I like it’s simplicity.

My new El Mariachi. First 29er, first rigid, first 1/10.
First ride yesterday. It’s … different. Very light, responsive and, well, rigid. And above all, much fun. It could be the beginning of a great adventure.

thanks for the help.
well, he’s not exactly the shredder-type of rider but then again, he won’t be racing. so, weight is not really an issue (talking about +/- 300 grams), he might prefers stiffness over weight.

Nice one, that. I’m thinking about one for myself. Is this a large frame?

Thanks.
