Okay good points, do guys think the A6000 is worth the extra £173? That’s the big question for me now.

The m3 has gone at that price, so that’s an extra £50 to buy over the A6000.

The range finder on the A6000 is really appealing, but the missus wants a 180 flip screen?! I need to talk her out of that.

But the budget has to stop somewhere, with the M10/A5000 we’d be able to get a wide range of lenses for under £400 in total.

Did you ever have issues with dirt on the sensor?

    Cheers for that @stumpy

At the moment I’m swaying towards a Mirrorless – something like the Canon EOS M10

Then getting 18-55mm and 75-300mm for the zoomy shots?

    That bad?

Just noticed my error in the title – bloody iPhone.

    1) Proviz sports – amazing customer service, sent me new pads for a helmet FOC, plus a high visibility beanie hat.
    2) Wiggle – Mio gps was a week out of warranty when it decided to detach itself, they sent it back to MIO who couldn’t do anything but they gave me the value back in Wiggle vouchers.
    3) Fitbit – currently on the third warranty replacement. Although they did say this is the final one. 😆

For exceptionally bad customer service, the award has to go to PX – see London Road thread.

    User error it is!

Normally I undo the cap, then stem and finally the bunger. This evening I undid the cap followed by the bunger – low and behold it was stuck. Meaning that the steerer was clamping on to it! 😳

Anyway the new bunger is in and is much longer than it’s predecessor:

I also added a dab of carbon paste on the bunger too.

Looks a little strange with a spacer above ❓

Thanks for all your advice folks!

@deadkenny you’re referring to the bunger right?

Haven’t got around to fitting it yet but noticed this:

Interesting articles – thanks for that!

Yeah it was Dedas instructions, included with the stem, that I was following during the build.

The BBB arrived yesterday and looks meatier, so I’ll get everything sorted tonight and report back if it stays put/slips again.

    Thanks all for your advice!

    Yeah;
Steerer bunger in and tighted to spec (8nm from the top of my head)
    Stem on lose
Cap on and tightened to 3nm??
    Stem tightend to 5nm

I’ll add a drop of carbon paste too then for good measure!

    Lifeline:

    BBB:

Knurls looks more substantial and goes down further so will provide more support when I place a spacer above the stem?

Do you guys also add carbon paste to the bung? (obviously not the stem)

    Yeah;
Steerer bunger in and tighted to spec (8nm from the top of my head)
    Stem on lose
Cap on and tightened to 3nm??
    Stem tightend to 5nm

    I’m only using this: http://www.wiggle.co.uk/lifeline-compression-plug-with-alloy-cap/

So i’m hoping the new one, along with the spacer change, will result in it staying put.

The stem is being tightened to 5nm, checked with two torque wrenches.

Maybe the cap is bottoming out, I don’t think it is, as everything seems very tight when loaded?

I didn’t know that you’re supposed to have a spacer above the stem. Okay so the new steerer bung is a lot longer, so I’ll adjust the spacers.

Thanks guys, I knew it would probably be user error!! 😳

    Year round commuter:

It will have winter tyres put on soon (Vittoria Rubino Pro Techs) but that’s the only mod I’ll do for winter. I tend not to use it if it’s raining in the morning, instead opting for the tube, but if its forecast for evening rain then it’s still used but with a saver attached to the seat. I ride solo so guards not an issue, but may invest in some this year.

I read the OP as 21 miles each way

    No, it’s 21 each day or 10.5 there and 10.5 back…or at least that’s how I’ve read it 😆

Just buy some multivitamins from H&B and eat a good old heart bowl of oats beforehand, I add protein powder to add flavour.

Don’t get mad in the car, why would I I’m in a big metal box plus it’s all being recorded on the dash cam.

On the road bike however I do struggle not to say something, it’s hard not too when they’ve just used their 1.5/2 ton killing machine against you (particularly when it’s actually on purpose, thankfully police around). But I have found a solution to that, a pollution mask! I can full on shout at the top of my lungs and no one can hear what I’ve just said. 🙂

I had a brand new 2 door mini one as a courtesy car back in April.

I could get my road bike in but had to remove both wheels, seatpost and wrap it in an old bedsheet (not my car) – so far from ideal!

They gave me the manliest of colours too:

6 miles in which takes 25-30 mins (20 mins actually moving), 6 to ?? Miles via Regents or Richmond park on the way home.

Cycle into work slowly but in cycle kit (running shorts over the Lycra ones – got to leave some dignity remaining). I don’t shower, but my suit/shirts/shoes etc are left at work (shirts are dry cleaned regularly at a place near work).

If it’s raining I take the tube – 45 mins door to door.

10 shortsleeve (castelli, altura and rapha)
4 longsleeve inc 1 thermal (castelli, sportful and altura)

Out of those 4 shortsleeve and 1 longsleeve are purely for commuting.

I’ve been road cycling for 2 years. 🙄

The missus actually presented me with the new Rapha team GB jersey this morning, so not all my fault. 😈

The RTD-80 r grade frames are paint imperfections only. Some of them are very slight indeed. Usually just incorrect size labelling on BB transfer, or a bit of matt overspray on a gloss area and vice versa, or maybe a couple of pin prick bubbles in the finish.

They’re very good frames, well reviewed by mags and owners alike (that bike owners, not dave who owns us)…

Apart from PX after care service record is shocking/appalling/laughable/diabolical! I’d rather buy from China than from you/them even if the prices were identical.

    Once bitten.

No doesn’t look like they do anymore.

I bought mine direct from Flyxii back when the £ was stronger 😆 Think it came in at just under $500/£350 inc tax, headset, di2 fitments, spare hanger and a carbon seatpost.

If you’re interested I made a thread on it: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/chinese-carbon-cr3flx-fr-602ac059cx-002

Same design as the Ribble CR3.

Mine has been faultless – its pretty fast with slicks too. Mine weighs in at 8.75kg with heavy fulcrum racing sport wheels.

    Good choice.

I’ve had my tomtom runner for around a year now – it’s simple to use and has never missed a beat.

I sync it to my phone just before I’m about to go for a run. This speeds up the GPS locking, otherwise it can take a couple of mins.

They have been superb over last winter, very grippy.

If you are using the route creation system on the website, be aware that when you choose to use ‘cycle tracks’ (you choose that on the unit) it will send you down some very poor ‘cycle tracks’ indeed – not good if on a road bike!
As Mio are European in origin, they no doubt aren’t aware of the laughable state of what passes for off road cycle infrastructure in the UK.

Nah the only time I use Mio routing, including on the device, is if I’m lost lol. It has taken me on some very dodgy routes, but equally the surprise me function has taken me to places I never knew existed! I do all my mapping on Strava, Select my house then where I’d like to go – it then takes me along the most popular routes. Loop it back to my house and then export it to the Mio. Jobs a good en!

I had the same with a garmin 1000, came with unused HR and cadence / speed sensors and unit was unused with screen protector still on.

Made me wonder if these items are maybe nicked!

I mean you’d have to be a pretty keen cyclist for someone to think “oooh i’ll buy him a garmin 1000 / mio 505 as a gift” And if you are a keen cyclist and didnt want this gift you’d have a fair idea of its worth, maybe check ebay out see how much they go for and stick it on there. Not pop to CEX for their poor payout.

Unless they’re bought as gifts by family members. Because I cycle I normally end up with a lot of cycling things on my birthday and for christmas lol.

What I’ve noticed today is if I activate the “Starred Segment Option” it takes the unit a good 5 mins to turn on, I just have a “please wait screen”. I’ve un-starred the ridiculously long segments such as 6 laps around Richmond park and it boots up in 30 seconds now. I had a go against a KOM I had set a few weeks ago to try it out. The mio said I’d beaten my time by 2 seconds, but when I sync’d to strava it was actually 1 second behind my best. Strange!? I’m yet to tick the “Popular Local Segment” option. I’m imaging that is going to be the same in terms of having a determent effect on boot time.

Other than that it’s much louder and clearer to see than my old 305, the incoming texts/calls alert has already been useful and it’s not crashed yet. So all good in my books!

Took it out for a trial run today – seems good to me.

Have yet to figure out the strava segments thing – I’ve got a free trial of strava premium at the moment so would be nice to see if it’s any good.

So far so good though – thanks everyone!

Talking lorries are a great idea, stops boris bikes doing something silly around them.

My gripe at the moment is the “cyclists don’t pass this vehicle on the left hand side” plastered on vans, not even long ones but the converted Ford Fiesta vans. Wtf! Come across as disclaimers to me; “warning I may not bother to check my left hand mirror when I’m about to turn left”…
