Count Zero et al – yes, I was wary of that. Was running so slow that the drill just stopped as I started to break through.

Thanks, can I take the neutral from any other ceiling light? There’s one adjacent where I can access all the wiring. If so, where would I take that neutral to? Join it to the neutral from the external light with a terminal block, and then run that into the switch?

Jimmy, I have some experience if this I posted a while back which I’ve linked here to save repeating it. http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/anyone-riding-with-scaphoid-non-union-snac-wrist-fusion-etc

Scaphoid breaks can take some time before they appear in x rays, even when they’re looking for them. Best to get it checked again

Well got it done taking it slow and easy. Thanks for the comments all.

Length was an issue, but only just made it with a longer 15mm bit. Next step would’ve been to look for a longer one. Didn’t seem to be available as standard.

And gears suck – I know it’s possible to drill steel. That’s not what I asked. I asked if it was possible to drill a steel beam which by the description was part of a structure and hence possibly tougher than other steels. Also not stated but implicit in the question was would it be possible with standard equipment.

“Yeh most police tend to have a common sense approach on motorways, someone driving sensibly at 80 on a clear stretch is much less of a concern than bad overtakes or people not checking mirrors when changing lanes when it’s congested.”

about 15 years ago I got done for doing 60mph on a 50mph stretch of the M8 at 2 o’clock in the morning on day after boxing day with hardly any traffic after the police had followed me “through town for 5 miles”. No I hadn’t done anything wrong, they had just followed me to observe. Breathalysed and totally clean. When I pointed out that while we had been stopped, every other car passing was doing over 70 mph, the answer was “we weren’t watching them we were watching you.” Smug git. His colleague had to point out to him that where they stopped me was actually a 60 mph stretch, but then he insisted on showing me his footage of me doing up to 60mph in the earlier 50 mph stretch before he pulled me over.

Why is the bill taking us out called the ‘Great’ Repeal Bill? That makes it implicit that its something wonderful and I imagine in some quarters evokes stirrings to the strains of ‘Land of Hope and Glory’.
Unless of course it means its simply very significant. ‘Significant’ Repeal Bill isn’t quite as catchy I guess.

Me. Had been so looking forward to first opportunity to ride both days of weekend since last year, weather is brilliant (not a cloud in the sky and barely a breath of wind) and I’ve been stuck working all weekend with a few hours still to go. Last time I was out, (Tuesday) there was snow everywhere!
Feeling a bit guilty about being a self-indulgent moaner with little to complain about compared to other reasons above – get well/heal soon all, esp loverofminkys

Regardless of the cause, which I fully endorse and have donated, the entertainment side of it is the direst shit I have endured for a long time. Yes, I know there’s a remote control to hand, but Mrs M thinks it’s good and she’s away all next week so I’m indulging her (go me  )
Edit: though now graham norton has just wheeled out another load of shit guests I can’t stand, this may be my opportunity to replace those brake pads I’ve been trying to find time for….

2nd edit: right that’s it, just as I thought it reached the nadir, I glanced over and she’s chuckling away. Then it was announced Russell Brand was on next. I swear her pupils dilated, just a bit. I’m off to the garage

This is possibly a stupid question, but it just occurred to me, so excuse me if it’s stupid. What is the evidence that this is a terrorist attack as opposed to a nutter with a grudge against society/government? I know he was a Muslim, but I’m not aware of any note and I haven’t heard anything about him shouting anything that would mark this out as terrorist attack. Sure, IS have claimed responsibility, but they would.

This was sparked by just hearing on the news that although he had converted to Islam, there was no awareness he had been radicalised.

Not trolling or trying to be smart, genuinely wondering if I have missed something in the reporting that is indicative of a specific terrorist claim on his part

Gobuchul, you are overstating the case. 2500 is 0.1% of 2,500,000.

my post above reminds me of a former boss’s views on customer care. there are only 2 rules:
Rule 1: the customer is always right
Rule 2: when the customer is wrong, refer to Rule 1

Pendantry aside ;), would you describe it as the Seat of the Mayors, in which case Mayors’ Seat is correct, or Seat of the Mayor, in which case Mayor’s Seat is correct.

Another thought is that there are not multiple Mayors at any one time (unless it is intended to apply to mayors from other towns) so the latter example above may be more accurate.

Either way, I wouldn’t be taking the decision in isolation no matter how much I thought I was right. Get the buy-in from whoever placed the order for whatever you do. If you want to change it from the requested “Mayors'” option without authorisation, you may face issues, even if you are correct!

Plumz, you may think it’s pedantry, but it will make a big difference to your searches if you spell it right! Whisky (no E) is Scottish – Whiskey is Irish…

THM, That depends on your definition of common sense. Many view FM as embodiment of Common Sense – at the last General Election she was winning plaudits from many English voters over her pragmatic approach to politics

The link that Kimber posted to the BBC comments makes depressing reading. So many nasty comments.

I thought that FM presented a clear, balanced and coherent argument, and that should be appreciated regardless of political view. Even if you do not agree with independence, it should be possible to appreciate that much has changed since the last referendum and why many people might be aggrieved.

Id forgot about the shiny hot seats in the summer that would take a layer of epidermis off the back of your thighs, then there was Vauxhalls bench front seat no belts and you slid and hit the driver if driven fast round a roundabout

Did your dad go round roundabouts the wrong way round?!!!

for anyone who is interested, I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013K8IBZY/ref=pd_luc_rh_sbs_01_01_t_img_lh?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
and the 17-20mm collet was fine for 20mm bearing, thought it needed to be screwed up to the limit. Took 2 mins to get wheel bearings out – the right tool for a job is always so satisfying!

With hindsight, this was the only way to do it. The inner sleeve in the Velocity hub is such a tight fit it doesn’t have any potential to be moved sideways far enough to tap out the bearings.

After knocking over my big tin of Putoline in the garage last time I used it :x I’m keen to explore the deep fat fryer / slow cooker options. What is slow cooker option, Jimmy, and what are the tea lights for? Sounds like it would create less smoke than the deep fat fryer.

That last link from Jairaj is the same as the second one I linked to. As well as more sizes, it has a heavier hammer which coud simplify things, but the inner race of the bearings I want to get out is 20mm, and the sizes of the collets in that one are 17-20mm and 20-24 mm, I was wondering if one might be too small and one too big, so would be interested to hear where you are thinking of applying yours and how you get on Jairaj – or if anyone has used it on a 200mm diameter inner race, that would be good to know, thanks!
