I’m still waiting for either my cables to arrive or some sort of notification from Wiggle that the order has been cancelled… anyone else in the same limbo?

Might well be an easy cheap fix you can do yourself. Mine went a couple of years ago – I googled the problem and it suggested that the thermostat had gone. Bought replacement thermostat from Espares for 20 quid and fitted it myself – and I’m normally pretty useless when it comes to such things.

It’s “making life richer for the pourer”, which makes the meaning entirely different from what you’re implying…

Like andeh, I am also from Doncaster and also would not want to live in Rotherham. I live in Sheffield, it’s ace.

Loving my new Cove Handjob build with 120mm – got the (bright yellow!) frame from CRC for £220 a few months ago, dunno if they have any at that price now.

My 6 year-old loves Bad Piggies. It involves making contraptions so the Angry Birds pigs can overcome various obstacles and cross a finish line. Takes quite a bit of thought on the later levels.

Cheeky bump – would appreciate any advice please. Thanks.

I started playing again recently after a 4-year layoff. Although I was in possibly the best shape of my life fitness-wise (regular mountain biking and 10 miles per day cycle commute), I still found it really hard work for the first 2 or 3 weeks. It’s a totally different workout to cycling ie high impact bursts of activity. I hurt like hell for a couple of days after each match. Having said that, it doesn’t take long to get used to it, and I’m massively enjoying playing again.

Oh, and you WILL get burns and bruises.

If you plan to drive down to Seattle, stop at the Boeing factory in Everett on the way. Tours are free if you book in advance (they were 8 years ago when I went anyway).

Go for a ride on the False Creek ferries in Vancouver too – I imagine kids will love them – and you can combine it with a visit to Granville Island market. You should definitely go to an ice hockey match as well. Vancouver Giants are a cheaper alternative to the Canucks, and there is still a great atmosphere, although there may be the occasional fight (on the ice, not in the crowd)… worth bearing in mind if you’re taking the kids!

I occasionally use BikeRadar forums, but it’s a lot less friendly than here – seems to be populated by a clique who would probably describe themselves as the sort who don’t suffer fools, but in reality are just rude.

Is that a question b r…? If so, no I haven’t removed the wheel between aligning the brake and the misalignment occurring. QR is definitely not loose either.

Thanks for the sticky piston suggestions, will look into it…

Christ yes it hurts! Mine is also of the spontaneous variety with no further treatment needed, just a follow up X-ray in a few weeks. Spoke to my GP this afternoon, apparently I can go out in the hills whenever I feel I’m up to it, but I have to try to avoid falling off the bike!

Interesting. Perhaps I’m actually struggling with the SRAM derailleur rather than the Yeti! All my other bikes have Shimano setups, come to think of it…

Thanks gp. Do you mean drop into the highest gear (smallest cog), or should I actually be doing it with the chain on the largest cog?

Why not see if you can drag a mate along with you? I went on my future BiL’s stag do to Les Arcs a few years ago – didn’t know him that well and didn’t know any of his 12 mates who also went. Fortunately, he’d anticipated that and also invited one of my mates who he’d met only a couple of times. Had a great weekend – probably the best stag do I’ve been on, mainly cos it was the first time I tried mountain biking and now me and my mate who tagged along are keen bikers as a result. Also made the wedding much more of a laugh cos I’d met all the lads before.

Alex at bikerehab.co.uk is pretty good*. Near to city centre and he’ll pick up/collect if necessary too.

*I am not Alex from bikerehab.co.uk

I like that combination on my Yeti. Bit draggier on the road than the Nobby Nics I had before, but the grip offroad is great.

@simonbowns – if I’d said ‘she lives in the same suburb of Sheffield as me’, nobody would have been impressed (not that anybody was impressed anyway). Having said that, I still like to think of it as a village… we do have a village green and a village society after all!

She lives in the same village as me, although her house is posher than mine. She even said hello to me the other day; I’m still living on the memory as you can probably tell.

Excellent advice, thanks BD. Not started the build yet, so will get LBS to check mech hanger and BB threads while they’re at it.

D’oh! Stop being the voice of reason Neil! Seriously though, I know you’re right… just wanted to sort it myself but I guess that’s a silly risk to take with a new frame. Thanks.

Anyone? (Sorry for the cheeky bump, but I’m getting slightly fretful about the whole situation).

Could I try and tap it in with the mallet/wood combo, or am I opening myself up to a world of bother and a damaged head tube? Anyone had a similar situation and fixed it like this?

Is there grit in and around the seatpost clamp? I’ve had exactly the same issue twice; both times I cleaned the clamp, post and the frame around the area and then put some grease on the post. Worked for me anyway…

Having said that, I don’t have a Reverb or the like, and I assume the grit works it’s way in when I lower and raise the seat the old-fashioned way. That’s probably not an issue if you’re using one of those new-fangled magic uppy-downy things like all you young folks have on your bikes.

Perhaps a sinkhole has opened under his house. Careful you don’t fall in too.

Cheers. A mate’s 10sp shimano chain broke last night and my 10sp SRAM link wouldn’t fit (too narrow).. Got me thinking about compatibility between brands as I also have some KMC links and wondered if they’d fit the SRAM chain on my bike if needed.

I like the way he ignores it when the two blokes open doors in front of him, but feels brave enough to say something when it’s a woman doing it.

Rode over Houndkirk Road near Sheffield last night, barely had to pedal up it – felt like the wind was lifting me to the top. The ride down was an absolute blast – don’t think I’ve ever gone so quick, even had to apply the brakes a couple of times…!

spacemonkey you’ve been reading too many Daily Mail articles, try looking at the real world. I have a 6 year-old at school and I can’t believe how hard he’s pushed academically. Where do you get the idea that the education system has been dumbed down?

    OK, I just googled it…

Thanks anyway chaps, just spoken to a mate who has the relevant tools and a bit of know-how so we’re going to have a go this weekend. The headset in the Cube is a Cane Creek and is almost brand new, so hopefully we can transfer that across. I’ll be looking further into your recommendations for a new one if we balls it up!
