It should be fine now, and probbly was yesterday as my wife got to work and didn’t say anything. Our village is up a small road about 300m above the airport. The road from the airport to the autoroute (15mins)is large and flat enough and currently being upgraded to dual carriageway. Have a great ski everyone. Be safe.

I’ve got the strava KOM for the descent of Buttertubs – I wonder if Cancellara can wrestle that one off me…?

    Like it! 10/10

There was a big dump of snow at my house* all day yesterday. The school bus wasn’t running upto our village, so Mini Mugsy spent the day at the school where his pre-school club is, rather than his school in our village (child ferrying on way to work issues make this more logical than it might seem).

Apparently all is back to normal today (I’m in Azerbaijan at present so not at home). Bit of a rnadom post, but I’m in the middle of nowhere watching a drilling rig not drill.

*This will interest those flying into ‘Grenoble’ as we live 5km from there!

To me, it sounds like the op is describing the red light controlling a pedestrian crossing, and only a pedestrian crossing, i.e. not at a road junction, that the lollipop person (pc me!)is ‘overriding’, rather than a red light controlling a traffic junction.

In this instance if the crossing is controlled by the lollipop, then I thought they fully controlled/ overrode it, and told traffic if they could go through the red light.

Sounds like I’m wrong though. Learnt something today, meaningless to me though as I live in France.

Well, the Fulcrum 7’s, last time I looked at such things (about 3 years ago) were the equivalent for the Aksium, so the 5 is a better wheel.

Take care everyone. If playing off piste make sure you are properly trained and equipped. Listen to the warnings. Coming from the heart of someone who has just lost a ski de rando friend in an avalanche.

He Said ‘certain types of people’ no?
This could have meant he saw them as indecisive, or loud, or tourists? Or or…
All I am saying is everyone, it might not be a race issue.

For the closest thing to a nordic type plateau with prepared xc (ski de fond) trails outside scandinavia but close to the UK it has to be the Jura, mentioned by Edukator, coldest place in France, completley different to most peoples thoughts of frnech monutains, and not just some short token loops around downhill pistes.

Look at the La Grande Traversée du Jura (GTJ) website for some inspiration.

It is non metal edges, skinny track skis style on prepared trails though (‘classic’ or ‘skating’)or do you mean ‘nordic touring’ on slightly beefier skies not needing a prepared piste?

    Spin,

what sort of ‘touring’ are you after? Day hits?, 1/2 day hits? multi-day? I’m nearby ish (Grenoble) and mainly interested in ski de rando but use the pistes for technique improvements (still a long way to go and most people would think I’m mad to ski away form the pistes with my skills, but I’ve approached it form a mountaineer perspective who is learning to ski rather than the other way.

There’s plenty of Ski de Rando around the Serre Che area, but less so from the resort itself. Domes de Monestier is the one that springs to mind. Otherwise there’s Combeynots etc from the Col du Lauteret, La Grave etc as CFH suggests, both also on the mountains between the Grenoble-Briancon road and the Ailefroide valley or stuff on the other side of the main road around the col du Galibier dropping down to Valloire.

You have deeper into les Ecrins NP form St Christophe, La Bérade, Plevoux, Aileforide then you’re into the realms of Ceillac and then the Queyras etc as you head south form Briancon.

Go to the topos on http://www.skitour.fr.

Otherwise closer to Grenoble you have the Belledonne, the Chartreuse,Taillfer and Maythesine blah blah

    oooh how topical.

I’m sitting here in Ganja in 3 day old clothes and due to start work tommorow on site with not much else tomorrow thanks to them.

I can’t even contact the right people to speak to who can find my bag, let alone them actually finding my bag.

Ermm I did a Hope Pro3 rear hub form my road bike back in September.
I don’t think it uses the same bearings as a Pro2. It was a bit of a faff finding the bearings and drifts. Some parts/ tools are the same such as freewheel pawls and seal sealing tool etc. I think I got a complete set of bearings form Merlin, but had to e-mail them to ensure it was a complete set including freewheel bearings as it wasn’t clear on the website. I do know I had to go to dif sources for the tools, and gave up trying to find a drive side spacer (the old one had cracked) and it is not the same as a pro2.

The whole process is the same, and the hope website has exploded diagrams with the required part nos.

So not much definite there, but should put you on the right road.

There wasn’t any French in the Chamonx Valley last time I checked. Full of le putain anglais.

Had my first day of the season on the planks on Monday! Skinned up the local closed pistes at Sappey en Chartreuse twice. Great snow in the Chartreuse. Not that that will mean much to most (any?) of you.

Have fun all. It has begun!

Send it to me if you want. I have to nip out very soon though. How much of a rush is it? DanJ.Heywood at gmail dot com.

I can convert the pdf to a word .doc file, but won’t ‘muck around’ with it if the formatting goes wonky etc.

    <thread hijack>.
    ‘Low key’ french sportives?
As a season opener can say the Corima Drome Provencale is great starting form Montelimar, home of Nougat. As is La Dromoise as a season closer, starting from Die, home of clairette de Die, think sweet bubbly. Free bottle to the first 1500 sign ups or something.
I seem to be fully adopting the French way of life and chossing sporting events based on their food/ drink productions…
sorry as you were. SE Crits

Yes I do know and am trying to ignore the idea of buying a basket case to do up as a road going racer style. My etz251 is one of the last proper E German ones and is on a K plate. Good Nick but when I get it to mine will be much better

Rusty Spanner, that’s what I was thinking of. I guess there are some ‘Norvil’s’ on the trials scene as the villiers units are supremely popular, and Norton frame, just won’t be a featherbed frame though

I’m sure someone has put a villiers in a featherbred though.

N’owt as queer as folk, says he who dreams of getting his MZ back on the road. Must rescue it from my Dad’s garage first though.

It kind of is Ogri’s as it’s a Norvin. Which is a custom of a Norton frame with a Vincent engine. Think Triton. Did anyone ever concoct a Norvil?

Engineering Geologist Bland for a large ‘global multi disciplinary engineering consultancy’ that has in the last couple of years been taken over by another larger version (should give you a clue if it’s relevant). Freelance now but was ‘on the books’ I did a lot of geomorph walkovers at Chovdar looking at Water Reservoir, Waste Rock dump’s, Tailing Lagoon sites g back soon for etc. I might be going back soon for tailing laggon construction.

I’m now involved in a ground investigstion for replacement of the oil pipelines through to Turkey.

Interesting that the website is all in English, despite the fact that it’s a race in France. How does that work?

    mugsys_m8

Hmmmm difficult one this I agree with Juan’s viewpoint with supporting the system etc, but I do buy online from a mix of EU sources.

However I do feel strongly about non French working in France and remaining outside the French system*. In my opinion that has more of an effect and is deliberately trying to cheat, whereas buying online from the likes of CRC is fully within what the system specifically permits.

    * Having moved to France I had to take some risks to do this by going form a salried position to a freelance position (since it has actually been advantageous), as I live in France but was willing to be fully compliant, to be comfortable with the knowledge that I pay my taxes and cotisations in France, and therefore paying in and able to get money/ services out of the system.

…but I guess to be mtb specific we’re talking about non french guides in France and that’s a whole different meling pot.

Hmmm, bit less exotic here in Azerbaijan.
Toyuq Tabaka is a bit bizarre: Chicken Squashed.
It comes on the plate like a whole chicken that’s been cooked and then driven over by the chef….

Staying in an ‘Olympik Center; here out in the sticks, the apartments are good but been exisitng on lentil soup every night for 4 weeks as can’t really face the dry spaghetti and ‘cutlet’….

Last day on site today then back to Ganja, train to Baku and then home to Family Mugsy in France. Yay bloody Yay!

Winter is trailquest time is it not?
Not a ‘race’ per se, but still a competition.
Have a look at the tca website, and for example, The Peak District winter league, google ‘Dark and White’.
