Is there any chance that someone could have a look at the code and fix the silly fence post error that means posts that create a new page get "lost" until someone else posts.
We've had this bug for years now.
I know it is part of the forum's "character" but it's getting a little tiresome.
Can't say I'd even noticed it
It needs two posts now on the music thread... does get annoying.
The 40th post bug? Well use to be about that. I think they tried once and didn't work, from what I gather it's buried deep in the code. I'll raise this thread.
Glitchy bump.

We've had this bug for years now.

And 12.5% worse since the change to only 35 posts per page.
Bumpy glitch.

If only there was someone who's job it was to sort out errant code.
*waves at patrick*
Aye i think you need three post to see it once over a certain size - can you not add bumpty glitch posts when someone does a new page to save time?
Does it show I know nothing about computers?
Really, send me "teh codez" and I'll fix it. For free.
Wild conjecture: I bet somewhere in the code it does a divide instead of a modulus. Or vice versa.
I might be wrong Graham, the tech bods will confirm or explain better.
It doesn't always happen though, does it? Are there specific conditions which need to be met?
I might be wrong Graham, the tech bods will confirm or explain better.
I bet they just switch the server off and on again.
Shhh Druid.
Sorry Drac. That's 33 years of IT experience coming into play 🙂
lol.
it's where posts have been deleted from a thread but presumably somewhere they're not taken off a post count figure which is used to determine the pages or which posts appear on a page.

Are there that many posts deleted (given that only Mods can do so)? If so, it would be better if they were simply "blanked" and left in situ.

Yeah, but then we would know the 'invisible hand' had been at work.
Nah don't think it is deleted posts. The iPhone 5 has had multiple glitchy bumps and I've not been aware of any posts being deleted on it.
If i understand this right surely there is a manual solution.
post, back button, repost, then edit repost?

Don't you mean 'features'?
If i understand this right
You don't 🙂
ok, can you explain it a bit better then?
Someone call Shaun, he'll fix it in a jiffy!
I think it actually dates back to Shaun's era.
Added to my growing jobs to do board. I will get round to it - promise. Sorry for delay but am really very busy
Got a bloke in my office that says that all the time too 😉

It's not deleted posts btw. It's when threads get to a certain size (over 3 pages?) the first post on a page doesn't show. Click the
"Latest reply from patricksingletrack" latest reply link and it doesn't move.
Another post or 2 will get things moving again.
Of course there's a manual solution, but why should there be?!
I'd also be prepared to take a look at the code if needed.
What's perhaps most annoying is that it manifests itself most in the bigger, fast moving discussion threads! (Like the rugby and ski/snowboard ones, for example). These are often the best threads here!
Hance my questioning of the "deleted posts" cause. Does discussion of skiing and snowboarding require a lot of Moderator intervention? I can only think that there might be some spam being removed?
Druidh, I think the two examples I gave are two of the finest where there's "self-moderation" from all involved. A refreshing lack of anything that needs to be modded! Not seen spam on either, either.
I seem to recall having a post "BumpyTeeJglitchy" deleted during TeeJGate 😆
This been fixed yet?

Ahhhh, those halcyon, happy days...! 🙂
Getting very close to a very apt joke...
Oooh #36 - glitch or not?
Doesn't look like it.
Everyone post a (LINKED) video on the Tune Association thread - that'll show it up!
Nope, not fixed.
GLITCHY BUMP!
LMGIFY might help
As above....LDGIFY 😀
This post from the rugby thread deserved a wider audience, even with the terrible grammar. 🙂
Pigface - Member
Come on you ban people off the board for being less annoying as this bloody glitch
The grammar (or lack of) contributes to that post IMHO.
I think it just lacks punctuation 😉
Pigface - MemberI think it just lacks punctuation 😉
An all too frequent occurrence.
I think it just lacks punctuation.
I've fixed that for you. 😉
Ah, now doesn't the addition of a smiley negate the need for a full stop?
Here's an idea, how about we all employ some SERIOUS swearing every time the glitch pops up. I mean, getting really, nastily offensive. Then, when it's reported and the inevitable warning from teh modz arrives simply say, "Fix it. Can't ban me for that."
😉
I think it just lacks punctuation
i think its fine and i is teacher who take literacyness very serious
Flogs dead horse 😉
Gets strangest boner.
Strangest boner I ever met was also the fastest. He had a Mohican and held the record at the abbatoir 😀
Why Mr Darcy I believe you are flirting with me 😛
Is this where I come ( 🙄 ) for the e-dogging ?
If people are being sent cod I want one too.
Not very sustainable though, how about haddock?
To keep this thread near the top I suggest putting a link on here when there is a glitch on a thread and a link to this thread on the glitch thread.
Working well, that.
They will never get it fixed unless we annoy them about it. Well they might just ban me for annoying them. 😆
Meh worth a shot!

Though I suspect the webdevs will be winding down for chrimbo with a nice deathmatch or two by now.
Blimey if someone here had a helpdesk ticket open this long they'd get sacked. Hey don't worry, it's only the ENTIRE INTERNET that can see your shoddiness!
Could someone please describe how to replicate this problem.
Cheers.
Open a thread that only you can access.
Keep posting until your last post doesn't appear.
Then post again - both posts will magically appear on page 2 at the same time.
Is this what you meant?
This happens every time a new page 2 is started?
Nope - just sometimes. And it seems to get worse the longer a thread is.
Edit: for no reason....
Nope - just sometimes
ah so. Anyone noticed any pattern?
Nope.
Suppose if you searched for 'glitch' you'd find most of the threads this applies to.
I'll be gathering a list 🙂
How about we all make this the biggest thread on STW to highlight it?
😉
Of course, it's more frequent since the number of posts per page was reduced from 40 to 35. Was there a technical reason for doing that or a marketing one?
Aesthetics probably. The bug doesn't work on this thread it seems.
Didn't mean that to sound funny, btw.
Seems to happen quite a bit on the tune association thread.
Aesthetics probably.
Eh? The forum is prettier with fewer posts per page? I thought it might have been to do with serving up less data per page (performance improvement) or ensuring more page requests (advertising revenue improvement).
Eh?
Cynic, meet cynic. I am still gathering that list.. If anyone's noticed a pattern or other examples please get in touch.
It might (or might not) be helpful but,
When it glitches, the missing next page's URL works when typed manually.
Eg, if this post was the one to roll to the next page and thus be affected, then I'd still see "Pages: « Previous 1 2 [3]" at the bottom of this page and similar on the forum contents page, whilst my first post of page 4 disappeared off into the ether. BUT, typing http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mods-can-you-fix-the-new-page-glitch-please/page/4 into the address bar would correctly display the missing page.
It seeks to be happening on every page of the ski and snowboard thread. Very annoying.
BUT, typing http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/mods-can-you-fix-the-new-page-glitch-please/page/4 into the address bar would correctly display the missing page.
Sort of.
Except the page 4 wouldn't have a reply box, so you have to go back to page 3 to bump the post.
Tom: watch the Ski and Snowboard thread - it is a nice long thread and the bug now happens every time we get to a new page on that one.
Edit: as I_Ache just said 😳
Good guess, and not far off - there are/were no deleted posts in the affected threads I've looked at. However a count was off for another reason. Both the threads mentioned above should be back to OK. I'll check for others in the near future.clubber » it's where posts have been deleted from a thread but presumably somewhere they're not taken off a post count figure which is used to determine the pages or which posts appear on a page.
