After a long time wishing Cotic would have more Rockets in stock, I finally gave up waiting today and ordered a 2014 Spitfire.

I’ve spent the best part of 8 months deliberating, waiting, then deliberating some more, and it came down to the flexibility of the frame with different wheel sizes and rear drop positions. I’m looking at the CCDB rear shock with a new set of 650b Pikes up front though I’ll be fitting 26inch wheels to begin with.

I came very close to getting a SB66 and had many a test ride on one. I couldn’t justify the cost though, when I could get the Banshee and fork for the same price as a Yeti. The Transition was on my short list as well but for what ever reason slipped by.

I’m afraid I doubt you’ll be seeing new Rocket frames this side of Christmas…

Just a cheeky bump, anyone have any input on using 650b Pikes with 26″ wheels?

I’m following this with interest. Looking to pop some 650b Pikes on a new Banshee build but want to stick to 26″ wheels for the time being with the option to run bigger when they cease to exist

    So for a A to C of 542mm I can run a 650b Pike at 150mm travel with 26″ wheels. That’s what I’m looking for….

Well… All depends how far the budget stretches.

In an ideal world I’d be setting it up as a new build, Blazing bikes were offering frame and Pike forks for £2000 which is mighty tempting. I think I’d be sticking to 150mm travel as the bike’ll be a do it all rig for messing in the forest and a bit of cross country and the odd uplift in North Wales. I’ve found a place where I can part ex my 26″ wheels for 650’s so the switch may not be as expensive as first thought. Drive train wise 1×10 looks the way to go with XT Shadow+ and 11-36 on the back and a fancy pants narrow wide 32 tooth ring up front. I’ve got XT brakes ready to go and a LEV post with spoon saddle.

If I’m feeling poor (and realistic thanks to Mrs. mmel’s budget constrains) I’ll be using my nearly new Revelation RCT3’s with my 26″ Hope/Mavic wheel set for now. A cheap 1×10 with my deore cranks and new raceface ring and XT Shadow+ as above.

Big decision of course is which colour, I’m thinking blue as the moment, not sure whick will go best with white forks…?

    Snap!

I posted this thread yesterday asking the very same question! I’m very keen on a Spitfire and am sooo close to ordering. I like the versatility and tweekability and so far have only heard good things. The new frames are supposed to be a bit lighter as well.

I’m looking at a CCDB out back and a RS Rev RCT3 up front for now but may stretch to new Pikes in time, especially when all the 26″ disappears of the face of the planet and we’re forced to ride 650b

Interested to hear how your thinking of setting yours up graeme87

they can be found online for £1600 for the frame at the minute

Where’s that? I’m about to pull the trigger on an SB66 and the cheapest I can find is £1800….

I used a Stan’s Rhino rim strip with my EN521s. Worked first time with my track pump and for the sake of £16 it was well worth it.

There simply aren’t any decent deals around that can find on Reba’s with 100mm travel and 15mm maxle

All Rebas up to and including the 2012 model can set to 100mm travel with internal spacers. It’s not so easy with the 2013 model though

The RLT internals of the Reba are the same as those on the SID, so if weight isn’t the top priority I’d get Reba’s. SID’s just seem a bit too fragile from what I’ve seen….

Just a bit of FYI on SID’s

A mate of mine went over the bars and knocked the lowers against a rock. I’m pretty sure any other forks would of bounced off but the SID’s dented and bent slightly out of alignment.

We’ve had the lowers off to inspect the damage inside as the stancion was binding at full travel and as suspected the magnesium alloy they are made from is paper thin. New lowers required!

The price you pay for the light weight I guess, but I think I would stick to Rebas

I’ve no experience with Fox to compare…

Sorry chaps, only just had chance to reply

My LEV does do it, not all the time but every once in a while. It’s not on a bike at the moment so I can’t check but it’s never caused a problem and I certainly wouldn’t be sending it back because of it. When it does pull out it feels like it’s being pulled against a vacuum and as soon as it’s released it springs back down.

Just one of those things with the post I guess…

There’s nothing wrong with it. The clutch system that grips the post only works in one direction.

    No need to panic

Wow, this is the exact topic that I was about to start so I will watch with interest.

I love the idea of having a Cotic, been wanting one since I went for a demo session at their HQ back in April. The big problem for me is that the stock isn’t going to be available until late July at the earliest and after four months without a bike I’m getting a bit desperate.

So… this is why I’ve been looking elsewhere. The Spitfire really grabs my attention. Love the fact that it can be run 650b so there are future options. Also keen on the CCDB shock option that you can order up.

For me I’m afraid it may boil down to which one comes into stock first.

I’m afraid this is probably going to be your best bet Click

In the mean time a bit of electrical tape should do the job 8)

No UK support if anything goes wrong (or there wasn’t the last time I checked)

Most spares can be got from the European sites and when I had a problem I emailed KS in the states and got an informative reply within hours. If you need to make a warranty claim the send it back to the retailer.

    I’m happy with that

I’ve got a LEV. I spent quite a bit of time deliberating LEV vs Reverb and I’m glad I went for the LEV. It works so well and and the fixed cable entry and remote system is bomb proof. Much better IMO than the over engineered Reverb system.

If I had my time again, I’d buy another!

Cheers OP, I’ve been meaning to buy this exact combo as the orange, black and white mix suited a build I’m planning

    Excellent!

I’m afraid I’m going to have to mention that I’ve not had a problem with them and I find the wheels they build bob on. Three experiences now, first building a complete wheel set, second repairing said wheels set after the mech went into the spokes, and lastly building a rear wheel for me when I needed the rear hub changing to 142×12.

All I can say is that on every occasion I rang up and placed the order without paying a penny, then when the wheels were ready (2 weeks the norm) they rang me, I went to the shop, paid my money and job was a good-un.

On the last build, I was given a number of options for converting my rear wheel to 142×12 and in the end they happily part ex’d my complete old rear wheel for a shiny new build.

I’m happy, but then I’ve never used their on-line services

Nice, I did the same thing and moved all my bits over from a Rockhopper to a Piglet.

I loved my little piggy, rode it everywhere for the past 18 months but unfortunately it’s now gone to Piglet heaven after the seat stay bent out of alignment where the caliper attaches. Something to keep an eye on if you ride hard.

PS, gotta love a brown saddle!

The original cable is made by Goodridge so it pretty easy to replace with like for like if you wish

Not tried it but you won’t have any problems. It’s just a cable in an outer after all.

Love RR, makes so much sense. Just love being able to shift whist mashing up a steep hill. Only downside is not being able to switch to 10 speed and use those new fancy clutch type mechs. Such a shame Shimano dropped it.

Perhaps, though to be fair they were a lot better on the last decent when they had less air in them

ndg – Good to meet you today, thoroughly enjoyed my Rocket experience.

I’ve got the transition bandit on my list of bikes to ride before I commit, but for some reason the Yeti doesn’t grab me. Not sure why? Going to be having a go on 29″ full suss as well next week but I’m fairly sure that’s not for me. One thing is for sure – if I do go Rocket I won’t be fitting Magura forks. Oh and I need a large!

Now, where am I gonna find those 2012 Rev’s?

    mmel

As above, let all the air out and see I it’ll move. If you are sure the cable set up is correct and the internal kevlar cable isn’t damaged then I’d be looking at lubing the roller bearings by removing the top cap as in this link

anything that uses a cable will end up causing problems at some point

That may be true with some posts, but not with the LEV. The entry point is sealed so no chance of crud getting in there. Much better than an over engineered hydraulic system that needs bleeding and is screwed if it brakes off… IMO of course

Bit of a thread hijack, but does anyone know where you can still get 2012 RCT3’s. I would like the dual air for extra tweaking but the place I was going to get them from is now out of stock. Doh!!!
