Ye most of the parts on my current 26 bike are in good nick, will prob just change the seat post and maybe cassette and chain, and cables, the rest should be fine.

But is the 29 not lacking in tight twisty switchback trails as we have here in Ireland??? That’s my concern about the 29er!! And also not as sharp on cornering??

Mine feels a tad slower in tight twisty forest sections, thats the only drawback I can find with mine, apart from the added weight. I’d stick with a 26 for your type of riding. I haven’t even used my 29 in Ireland yet, just been using my 26 bikes here.

Hmm there’s no clear cut answer really. Because you’ll be using it for trail centers and epic’s, my first reaction was that you should go with a 26. But some people simply prefer 29ers I think! If your trails are very tight and twisty then I would chose a 26, as the one area 29ers still seem to fall back on is sharp cornering, just a tad though, not a major issue. I love my 29er for endurance racing, but if I wasn’t a racer I probably wouldn’t have bought one. For racing they are really nice once you get the speed up and seem to carry speed better through rough sections. Hard to say really!
But ye, if you’re not a racer then I’d stick with 26.

I started a thread about this the other day as I was having the same problem.

What type of riding do you do/are you going to be doing on it? No one can really answer unless we know that. I own a 26 and a 29 so can probably help you a bit.

OP Have you tried changing the rings on your double setup to suit you better?or are you just using what it came with?

Just using what it came with. Whats the biggest jump you can have with 2 speed?? Didn’t think it would be possible to change the rings much as the chain would have a massive jump up or down.

Just wondering, what don’t you like about a double?

I just find it hard to find gears that I’m really happy with when racing it. And i miss the granny for long climbs in endurance races, mainly 24’s and stage races, where with the 2×10 I’m forced into a lower cadence than I’m comfortable with. Also the big ring seems a bit too small for some downhills. If I was just racing XC and spending most of the time in the big ring then I’d probably be a huge fan of it, but for endurance racing it just seems like too much of a compromise in gear choices.

Slightly off topic from the current convos, but why can I not find any decent ski mags over here. I think Powder and Free skier are the best ones, but all I can seem to find here is that Daily mail ski and snowboard mag. Tempted to subscribe.

Ye I’m not keen on the graphics on K2 skis. I thought the graphics on the Obsethed skis last season were pretty sick, not really keen on any of the graphics this year!

OK I need a set of piste skis in around a 170cm length. Does anyone have any they’d like to give me/sell, or know where I could pick up a bargain? Thanks!

check the valve it may be ripping from the tube,

Yep, thought it could have been a slow puncture to tried pumping it up, but I heard and felt air coming straight from the valve area.

I remember the first redbull 24 hour race, they gave us a crate of red-bull but we had to promise & possibly sign a it of paper not to drink it during the event.

    Serious?? :|

I had a can of red bull and about 5 jaegerbombs on thursday night, and my heart was doing about 100bpm at 5 am still. Bit disturbing!

Yep, it’ll do that to ya! Not that I’d know :wink .

The first time I encountered Redbull was at a race sponsored by them in Spain. Everything behind the bar was expensive but the Redbull was free so my post-race thirst was quenched with many, many cans of Redbull. That was 16 years ago and I haven’t touched the stuff since.

I like Monster too but don’t think there’s any need for the cans to be that big…

Being a first time skier will i need a waterproof backpack?

I’d try and avoid skiing with a backpack if I was you tbh!!! It can throw your balance and weight distribution way off, which is key to learn well. Maybe bring one up with what ever extras you need and leave it in a locker which are usually around the gondolas somewhere?

My 29’er came with 2×10. After racing it for all of last season I’ve decided I really don’t like it! Thought it would just take a while to get used to but I never liked it much. It just seems like too big of a compromise.

Oh and cobrakai, since you’re going to Whistler I’d deffo take a look at Prior skis. Made there in Function junction just outside, sick graphics and basis, you choose the ski and then the graphics after.

Okay, some of those authors were NOT light hearted :| . There was a couple of sci fi writers in there and a crime writer. There was me walking around the general fiction section wondering why I couldn’t find them until I asked lol. I’m not really into that kind of writing.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks, gonna make my way into the book shop now and check some of them out.

Hmm ye it depends what makes you’re after. Summit sports (just beside the main gondi building) seem to have the best selection of skis to buy. I never rented or demo’d skis out there myself, there is a demo tent at the top of the Whistler gondi where you just need to leave your credit card and take out any skis they have for demo that you like, no booking required.
For shop’s I’d also highly recommend Can Ski and Whistler Village Sports (slightly biased with that place cuz I worked there!). The staff in both those places are really cool and friendly though. Both of those are at the top of the village stroll just before you get to the gondolas.

Question for ski gurus. Currently have an old pair of rossi B2s which are seen as the best 50/50 ski. Going to whistler and japan this season so have been looking at a more 70/30 ski due to off piste and back country opportunities. The hard bit is, I’ll be tellieing so the skis have to be light for touring but I still want some stiffness/support for the piste.

Wouldn’t exactly call myself a guru but I know a fair bit! I was in Whistler for a year, and I can say that the style of skiing there is a fair bit different to Europe! You RARELY see people just blasting on piste with their carver skis trying to get as much edge as possible, and hardly any mincers out there. Do the idea of what an all mountain is out there is a fair bit different to over here! If you’re like me you’ll pretty much never ski on piste in whis unless you’re skiing to another off piste place, or just finished an off piste run, so the piste capabilities of a ski would be very low on my list for whis, and japan. .
Not sure about the touring possibilities of all mountain type skis these days. The rockers look like a sweet all mountain ski though. I own the line prophet 98’s which i love.

Is everyone saying their clothing/kit list I’ll go!

Volcom jacket, some unknown make sallopets, helly thermal, ice breaker mid layer, TNF Down jacket to wear under my outer jacket (on really cold days), X-socks, reisch gloves, Oakley and Bolle goggles (both different lenses), Technica boots.

Arc’teryx gloves. (worn under the sleeve cuffs).

*Frown*… I HATE when kids in ski school insist on having the gloves tucked under the sleeve like that. Well, maybe not hate, but it can be slightly annoying when it looks like we’re all ready to ski off with all our skis/kit on and then some kids want their gloves tucked in.

Definitely moth larvae. Does your carpet contain wool? Get some stuff to kill them, (have a look in B&Q) hoovering wont be enough and remove any merino wool jerseys from the vicinity!!!

Thanks, after a few answers of that I’ll take it that’s what they probably are!
Not sure if or how much wool my carpet contains. Its standard soft bedroom carpet material? :|
I actually noticed one or two small patches of the carpet where some of the carpet fluff was missing, if that makes sense?!
