Seb Kemp is a brit, who spent a long time in NZ and now resides in Canada as far as I can tell.

another vote for Aviemore – full on adventure for canyoning and an afternoon of uplift at Laggan – was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The night life was viewed with aprehension by the group as coming from London they weren’t expecting much, but we had a cracking couple of nights.

    a proper TopGun moment

What looked like F-14 (possibly a F-15, twin tail fins anyway) passing low overhead and then pulling up into the sky leaving mini contrails from the tips of its wings as it did so. The contrails were visible for far longer than the plane was, dissipating slowly in a patch of sunlight. Big Smile for me :)

this is the reason why STW is so good and so popular. The arguing minority bring it down a tad but breadth of knowledge and friendliness of the the majority keep it top of the pile in my book.

my daughter went in hers when she was about 18 months old. we waited until she was completely happy wearing her helmet and also able to support the weight of it as she was moved around.

I was impressed by the speed of your response anyway, but it having gone to the US and back in between times, that is awesome :)

and this is why I love STW :)

thank you very much, I had wondered if that was what it meant, but had not found any way of confirming it. I thought you were a hot shot lawyer (when you’re not clambering over mountains)?

The crucial element for fitting is that you need at around 15mm of spacers under your stem for the “stinger” (attachment) to fit, without this you will struggle. Also high rise riser bars will provide the most comfort and ease of getting little ones in and out. A stem of aroun 90 – 100mm is also necessary. If you can tick all those boxes then bike fitting is relatively straight forward. There may be exceptions to the above but that has been my experience. Currently the work horse bike is a Dialled Love/Hate.

In terms of child size then my youngest has been in our one since she was able to wear a helmet comfortably. she is still riding around comfortably now at 2 3/4 (around 90cm tall) with her feet not close to touching the bottom of the chair.

I think if he stays with SKY then it will be because he is looking to the long term to become a classics rider – similar to the route that Boonen took. Lots of prestige to be won there and having the strength of team that SKY could provide him would be a bonus if he were to go down that route.

If and when you do redo the love/hates can I suggest that you return to the approach you took with the mk1 and put a mech hanger on it?

I love my mk1 and one of the many reason why is due to its flexibility, changing between ss and 1×9 is easy and opens up its useability dramatically.

intrigued by the concept of a PA29 as well :) Can you post some pics of the prototypes?

awesome – thanks very much for carrying out the test :)

as above I’ve mainly been using the yellow lens – primarily due to weather conditions now being suitable but also due to a wee bit of doubt about the UV protection.

that concern is now resolved and next time the sun glimmers through I’ll be rocking a different set of lenses is my comedy coloured glasses

    Bump for the morning crowd.

I’ve measured the drop between the two levels and its about 5mm. There is some vertical movement in the slider and even pushing it up as far as it will go before I tighten it gives me the 5mm drop.

Lifer – has Saccades taken you up on that offer? I’d certainly be interested to know the results.

FWIW – the quality on mine seems patchy, I ordered two pairs, one works perfectly and the on the other one struggles to close properly around the lens. However for £10 each I’m quite happy.

Apparently the torch is visiting the Nevis Range and is going up to the top of the Gondola. due to arrive there around 2 I think.

No problems with them entering the house, I don’t know why but they never seem to last for long in an non natural environment such as a house or a car.

On another note I’ve been experimenting with this over the last week:

    http://www.highlandsoaps.com/scottish-bog-myrtle-organic-lotion-300ml-cat-33-subcat-44-product-458

    bog myrtle lotion

it appears to be very effective at dissuading the midges from biting, they still swarm around you and land on you, but then lose interest and fly off. Once you get used to the nuisance factor of the cloud of midges in your face you can get on with stuff. It seems to last a good while as well. The only issue is that if you miss a bit, the midges will then feast on that patch of skin. Hence the tip of my left ear tingling this morning.

also I now smell lovely ;)

A friend of our runs a toiletries company that are now producing a Bog Myrtle cream.

Wife and daughter were out most of the afternoon yesterday and the day before with 0 bites between them, this included a couple of hours at the Nevis Range, which had clouds of them on Tuesday evening.

I’ve just got back so haven’t tried it yet, I will try it out over the weekend.

I rode a few sections of the course last night, some of which form part of my local loop.

It is dry and dusty in the parts that use the standard trails, but the bits that veer off into the off-piste areas are quite soft still.

Tyre wise I reckon a fast rolling tyre on the rear and something with a bit of grip up front would work very well. My biggest concern was washing out my front wheel in the corners being unaccustomed to riding in such dry conditions.

coming home from a ride in Lochaber with a dusty bike is a pretty rare event :)
