The thought had occurred, but the geometry was different IIRC? Rode one way back + it felt like a different bike. Trying to hang on to my favorite frame, so just wondered if anyone had managed a successful bodge?

If I’m going to have to sell the bike + start again would probly explore the newer 29ers coming out.

Which RnR bed did you go for for the T5, if you don’t mind me asking?

What Bullheart said. Don’t be too hard on yourself.
Get your GP to refer you for proper capacity testing + cardiac rehab. Finding out what your capacity is + taking specialist advice on how to build from that works. But it can be frustrating learning to manage your expectations. Good luck.

Mboy, that sounds spot on, strength to you.

    1) Commute 3 times a week.
    2) 1 4hr + ride in a different county per month.
    3) Not eat like I’m some sort of athlete.
    4) Do more of the things I love.

Just going through this. Our trusty old T4 (which has been ace) is needing more money spending on it than we can justify, so looking around at T5’s + getting depressed by the prices / unreliability of other options.
Late model T4’s are snapped up.

Nowt down the back of the sofa, so going to have to rationalized the bike shed.
ST4 frame + Top Fuel 69er are going to have to go :-(

The Red + Black can be linked easily from either start point If you want a longer ride Geoff.
Either way is good, but if you start from Byrgwm car park, you could do Black up to the top singletrack sections, then follow the signs to the top of the red descent. Pub lunch in Abergorlech, do the rest of the red, back up to where you left the black, then finish the black. Decent ride.

There is. Too complicated to explain. Easy version is do the blue climb which means you miss out the top corkscrews, but do most of the blue/black descent.

One definition of depression is trying to be too strong for too long. Longer term CBT would be worth investigating further, it can be like layers of an onion. Learning to recognise unhelpful thoughts / feelings and challenge them, finding evidence to counter them can help start to build confidence. Its OK to let the mask slip now + again + it doesn’t mean the whole lot will come tumbling down. The fear, intense pressure and very negative thoughts/feelings will subside. Might help to think of right now as being a big FO climb. Intimidating “I don’t think I can do this” e.t.c. but all you’ve got to do is just turn the cranks, sit there + you will get to the top.
All the success in the world only means something if it means something to you. Finding ways of allowing it to will take time.

As someone whos had wrestling matches with depression I have some idea of how easy it is to think that “success” is something you somehow scammed + that one day you’ll be caught out. These take time + work to counter + as mentioned above tools you’ve been given previously may help. CBT + meditation helped me allot.

Its important to realise you don’t need to take it all on + sort it all out right now. You’ve just got to get through the “right now” + then begin to sort it out bit by bit. You aren’t alone.

WARNING: It is probably impossible to understand my web page, if you own a car.
    Or a mountain bike.

To be fair layout, writing style + witless badgering rantings make it impossible to understand if you own eyes or a brain.

For the money you are spending try a Five on similar trails. I rode allot of different bikes before settling on the ST4.

Do a search for ST4 over the last year or so + you’ll pick up several threads that have discussed this.

FWIW I’ve been riding a 2011 ST4 for just under a year now + rate it better than the older version + have maybe wished I was riding a Five for less than a minute of that time (Drop off >3′ + one very steep stupidly rocky / tech / fast descent, yep thats all I can think of). Otherwise caned it round everything.

Not the lightest/fastest XC bike but fine for Dyfi enduro type events (where you will overtake allot of Fives  ), you will rarely be passed or see anyone having more fun at a trail centre, up or down*. My favorite bike to ride round Brechfa / CyB / ClimachX / Afan e.t.c + didn’t feel outgunned riding down Snowdon.

Very capable trail bike IME. Reminds me of a Soul in that it is good at getting you to the fun bits + then allows you to give it some when you get there. Not the bike for everyone, but I found the fit, feel + geo spot on. Whereas for me the Yeti ARC 5’s have knack all clearance, SC TRc’s are mental expensive, ‘dale RZ120’s are great, more efficient, but a whisker too small + not as capable, Fives too flacid, blah blah. Goldilocks eh?

Five might be a better choice if most of your riding is big mountain rocky (Lakes e.t.c.) or DH tracks

PS Good forks make allot of difference IME. RS Reba maxle BB damping here.

*Riding speeds may vary with ale/pie intake

Sounds like you handled the situation very well. Chapeaux!

IME theres a big difference between posturing/reflex aggressive responses + actual violence thats at risk of escalating. Giving people who do the former chance to realise they’ve behaved stupidly + offering them an exit strategy, is way better than responding in kind. The latter is thankfully pretty rare + a different kettle of fish.

Also worked in both sectors. I now (in the NHS) have to work longer/harder to get paid less, but have slightly more security.

I’m sure there are jobs in both the private + public sector which allow you to put your feet up, but you have to go up into middle management to find anyone in our health board who isn’t grafting hard. Frontline services have been squeezed allot over the last couple of years.

The NHS pension scheme is a net contributor to the treasury.

Used to mostly ride with various small groups of freinds.
After moving, mostly ride by myself as I haven’t loads of free time + mostly ride cheek. Great for riding at a decent pace, maximising bike time per brownie point burned, not having to compromise on route + reduced faff. But I miss the craic and an ace section ridden alone just isn’t as much fun as sharing the experience. So make the effort to travel for group rides couple of times a month + have met some great people.

If you want a play on the ST4, as a comparison to whatever you can get to test ride, give me a shout.
Whatever you get, be good to get a Brechfa ride in.

A40 gets you from Haverfordwest to Oxford, but is busy + would be a bit grim road to ride along.
From this end I’d be tempted to head up the coast road via Fishguard + Newport (Pembs), then head inland to Boncath, Newcastle Emlyn, Lampeter. Then head down to Llandovery, up to Builth, then lots of options to get you over to Worcester way. Let us know when you’re heading off. If I’m about happy to ride St Davids section with you.

Igniter as a front tyre! In winter!! Fit would be the least of my worries.
Didn’t even like it on the back, reminded me of the Conti Vert bad old days.
Minion 2.25s fit fine, and grip. Had Ardent 2.35’s + 2.25(?)’s in there without issue but in summer so no mud issues.

So 7 months on, whats your conclusion on running the ST with 140 forks?

    Mal-ec
    Free Member

,Assuming that you’ve found an arrow straight decent long enough and the fb reaches a speed exceeding 30mph the tyre growth due to the centrifugal forces causes frame and fork rubbing resulting in catastofic failure of one or both contact areas.Quote”three out of the four test bikes failed due to tyre rubbing resulting in a brused elbow and a grazed knee, any one who uses these bikes must have a death wish”

But on the new generation of “Infinite travel” fatbikes, the fork travel + seat/chainstays adjust, guided by a smart BRIAN shock system.
As the tyre become “thinner”, there is less drag, so the bike accelerates, increasing the tyre growth. This continues until the tyre is infinitely thin and the bike passes the speed of light, leaving a trail of Higgs-Bosons in its wake. Fastest bike ever. FACT.

Theres allot of assumption about what other people are thinking + what motivates their behavior goes on on here.
Glad you’re having fun on the bike. Looks like a very steep head angle, or is that just the pic?
