I think the lifts at Metabief, Lac Blanc and possibly Le Bresse might be open at the weekends in early sept. It might also be worth considering riding without lifts in those areas – both like Wales / Scotland but on steroids.

Changed my Conti Vanco Camper tyres for a Maxxis equivalent and whilst the weight rating is different the Maxxis website and warranty say they are fine for what we need. Given the price difference of around £50 per corner, it seems too good to miss from my pov. Phoned insurance company also to advise, and they weren’t the slightest bit interested either.

Camping, hotels – what sort of thing you after?

You can avoid Paris by going Calais, Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, Chartres and then to Orleans to pick up the motorway again. All dual carriageway or motorway to there and then a straight run to Tolouse. You could do it in a day with an early crossing if needed.

I regularly swop between the stock Pikes on my Pitch and a set of 36 Vanillas and bike feels great with these on – been on plenty of Alps trips with that set up, as well as more local trails – I’ve even ridden Swinley with that set up and found it a hoot.

Are new pikes available with 1 1/8th steerers? If so then crack on. Pitches are ace.

Yes, get comments from walkers and/or dog owners – my best so far is when some says “do you know” type comment and i just go “yeah, silly isn’t it” or something similar, smile and ride on leaving them lost for words. Bloke the other day, red socks, couple of fat Labrador’s said “don’t you know you can’t ride here”, so smiled said “yes” and carried on – thought he was going to explode with rage!

Use a Fiamma one on a motorhome, it’s ok but not great. Really fancied getting one of these – if I had a towball

Done it – we’ve moved – took around 11 hours in saturday traffic, toll queues (thank god we got a tag) and a couple of stops – about 600 miles in all, with MH and kit. It’s hot, sunny, dusty and dry and we are riding VAllnord tomorrow for a few days. It was raining until way past Valence, proper grim.
Good luck to all those heading out there – not sure what the forecast holds….

That’s exactly the encouragement I needed – Hotel booked (even though we are in Motorhome) as it was mega cheap €600 for half board, for 2, for 12 nights!!!
    .
Planning on the mega drive back 2 weeks today, for a Sat eve crossing…and hopefully loads of Andorra dust on the bikes.

We’ve taken an executive decision (or total madness) and have just booked a campsite and hotel extravaganza in Vallnord for the next 10 days. We will be driving from the rain soaked alps, 1st thing tomorrow and sunday, and then leaving a week Friday……I’m either mad or it’s a stroke of genius – not sue yet

I worked with a lady from Cadishead who made a pretty straight proposition in the stairwell at work “Would you like to come round this weekend?…the only time my boyfriend f^^^s me is when his mates come round to watch”

I was to intimidated to take her up on the offer, but it still gives me a twitch in the pants.

Vosges, are a good bet – slightly lower than high alpine stuff and more accessible from uk. Some bike parky bits still open (lac blanc, Le bresse,) or at a push metabief. Plenty of signed routes and easily findable trails – stayed at xonrupt-longmer a couple of years ago and had a hoot on a 160mm pitch, riding up and down. Plenty of aires and municipal sites, plus toll free driving if you head through luxembourg – I’d love to go back.

Tomj, not sure how much you ride but I did the Red / Black combo last week in just over 90 min, including going wrong on some dodgy signposting on the black near the end – so rather than the blue tacked on do the red / black again? – ride, eat, repeat

If you have a GPS enabled something or other, most bike shops will transfer GPX files on to it; so that you can navigate / access trails more easily as some of the path / trail marking is non existent. It should avoid the opportunity to get lost given your short time frames.

Lake Garda was in the back of my mind. Can anyone recommend any family friendly accommodation?

    POSTED 1 HOUR AGO # REPORT-POST

Italians are so mega friendly, and love kids – just about anywhere on the lake. North (Riva del Garda) and Torbole are good bets, plenty of signed routes, uplifts, gnarr, plus holiday stuff like a beach, swimming, sailing, pools, promenade, etc etc
