I believe your bike has an 83mm BB and the SLX only do 68/73mm BB width, so I think that could be your problem.

Currently residing in a shipping container somewhere off the coast of China as it wends its way from the UK to Oz (where we’ve just moved back to), really want her back in my possession!

Worth getting the downtube cable protector thingy as well I reckon, bit of an annoyance that Ibis don’t just include it with the frame really…

I bet you can’t wait to get it back! And I have considered the protector, I wanted to so one really on the bike to make my mind up??

How did you find the wheels ? I’ve just bought some today for my bike…. Get em on Tuesday. Can’t wait, there sooo cool. LOL

I have had no problems whatsoever with the wheels, but I know others haven’t been so fortunate (or that’s what the web feedback leads you to believe).

Buy the way, did I spot a sheath for your Reverb? Interesting idea. Where did you get that?

    Took the words out of……….etc

Where did you get that sheath thang to protect the Reverb ?

It’s a Lizard Skin chain stay protector – but make sure you get the jumbo one – the standard one won’t go around it. I then cut down to size and zip tie top and bottom.

That is an amazing looking bike, although that triple chainset does not suit it at all, IMO.
    POSTED 6 MINUTES AGO # REPORT-POST.

Triple only on there until next week. Order 2×10 set. Only using the bottoms two rings anyway at the moment as its a 10spd front mech and it won’t go over the 44t. So at present im running 26 & 36 on front.

I like mine as they do everything you ask for above and since I got the tyre pressure right, I’ve had no punctures either.

I feel there’s something very perverse about bikes that cost multiple thousands of pounds having Superstar logos visible on them. Kinda like throwing a dead octopus at the Mona Lisa .

For as long as they keep the hand cramps away (excel grip), then the logo’s will stay. :-)

But isnt the rear tyre the wrong way around?

Nope – but you did make me go and check!

How is it different to your H?

The only way I can explain it is…’it was less hard work’…not sure if that makes sense?

I handled better, it gripped better, it flowed better, it worked harder.

In another few rides I might be able to put a finger on it, but that’s the only way I can explain it at the moment.

Haldon I see – I was there today, weather man said rain at 3pm & got exactly right!

Good spot from a fence and mud! Haldon is a great place to go on the first ride out….not too far to walk if something goes wrong with the bike!

I had an early morning spin and I was gone again by 11am, so missed the weather. Now sat at home up on Dartmoor and the white stuff is falling (slightly).

How strange! I’ve just this minute commented on your previous thread when you were asking if anyone knew where they were in stock and i sent you a link to our website.
Looks like you beat me to it!

so is the first step filling out the online form and going from there….or is there a more direct route to getting an embassy apointment ?

I think he can apply for the visa waiver but it will probably get turned down as he will say he has had a criminal record. But, from the US Embassy website:

is not ineligible to receive a visa under U.S. visa law. Travelers who have been arrested, even if the arrest did not result in a criminal conviction, those with criminal records, (the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act does not apply to U.S. visa law), certain serious communicable illnesses, those who have been refused admission into, or have been deported from, the United States, or have previously overstayed on the VWP are not eligible to travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program.

He can’t apply for the visa online – he needs to arrange an appointment with the embassy. He can do that direct by calling them. He needs a B2 visa.

Tel: 09042-450-100 – But beware it costs £1.23 per min plus network extras.

Having recently traveled to the US with a couple of mates for some MTB action, one of party ended up not going for having an offense on his record (He didn’t do time). This wasn’t because they said no at the embassy – it was purely down to the time it would take to get it.

Your mate will have to go to the embassy to apply for a visa and he is not eligible to apply for a visa waiver – Believe me… I spent a long time researching this on his behalf.

He will need to get an appointment with the embassy, they will interview him and at that point they will either decide whether it’s a yes or no OR they will send the decision to (I think the term was) ‘the Secretary of State’ for a decision. This can take up to 16 weeks.

So if you are going to get on to it, you’ll have to do it sooner rather than later.

Quick call to Mojo and they are out of stock until March…

Thanks Si – I did try Mojo myself and that is what they told me. I am VERY disappointed with my LBS to be honest as I ordered them weeks ago when they still had some and I was assured the order had been done and they were on there way. :( Now being told March like you. So I am trying to find someone who has them in stock, but not having a lot of luck. Gutted. Brand New Frame waiting to be ridden and no forks…. :(

Pic would be good – but is it just a case of adjusting the ‘limit’ screw on the derailleur? (i.e. Not the indexing screws, the other one)

EDIT: Too slow – as TJ says.

Out of interest do you have the model made after July 2011? This one has the bigger rear end, 142mm x 12mm – so wondered whether it makes it as stiff as they say it does?

think mine was made early 2011 – but regardless, it’s stiff, light, and nippy. Love it. Just get it built and ride it…..

I will as soon as the forks arrive… I do hope it’s soon!

You have give me some really good advice thank you!

Thy must have run out of Matt tape for you :) as mine is defo Matt finish! I am also running a larger disc on the rear, so gone for a post to post mount.

Feel better about the build now (had to admit I was slightly nervous about my first carbon build). Ta!

    ltheisinger

Yeah yo can put it directly on the frame, but I’m using a bigger disc on the rear to the standard size which I believe is 160mm?

OP – I don’t think there’s much you need to do differently than you would with a normal frame. Apart from the seatpost, no other parts are fixed directly into the carbon.
If you’re going to use helitape, look for a bloke on ebay who sells it with a matt finish. Normal tape is shiny and will stand out a mile on your matt frame. Apart from protecting against chain slap and cable rub I wouldn’t bother doing the whole frame. The kind of impacts that will take chunks out of the frame are surely going to rip through helitape imho!

Thanks buddy. The frame came with the Matt finish helitape which is ideal. As for parts direct into the carbon, what about the rear brake mount? I don’t have the frame at home yet, but I know it’s a post mount frame, so does the mount go directly into the carbon? Thanks for the advice.

This being my first carbon frame – has anyone got any words of wisdom when attaching things like the brake mounts, seatposts etc. (i.e. use compound when fitting?). Any little tips from experience would be great….

OP – I was in the same position nearly a year ago. Mine’s set at 140 though but keep wondering if I should change to 160 and stick a bigger fork on? I don’t suppose it will add much weight.

Go on…you know you want to!

I am putting the new Fox Talas 160mm RLC, ohhhh…. don’t keep me talking about it – I just want to ride it NOW!

    d45yth – Member

No problem, I see you say you’re only waiting for your fork. What wheels/hubs have you got already?

The rest of the uild is coming from my Heckler and when I can afford to upgrade some more stuff I will (mainly want to change from 3×9 to 2×10). But at the moment the wheels/hubs are Crank Brothers Iodine (Iron colour, which incidentally matches the grey/bluey colour on the frame).

Itheisinger – The HD models before July 2011 still had a 12mm axle, just 135mm wide (Look at my profile pic). The only difference with the 142 is that there are shoulders for the hub to fit into, making it easier to put the wheel on. You have to line things up with the 135mm before putting the axle through.
And yes, they’re as stiff as…

Thanks buddy – makes sense. Haven’t owned a Mojo before, so wasn’t aware that it was a 12mm? Thanks for the feedback.

Mojo owner here, so am biased – but definitely a nice bike. Like the natural carbon frame – mine’s not that, but am not complaining…..

18 posts in and no ones mentioned that sofa!!!! Stunning frame though

Haha! Can’t be held responsible for the sofa – it’s the one at my LBS, where the frame is until the forks arrive.

Thanks guys – the build is going to have to take some of my old kit across from the SC Heckler until I can afford to upgrade! This time I could only just about do new frame and forks, so over coming months I will try and do the frame justice.

The Build for now will be:

Frame & Shock – Sparkly new and as you can see it with RP23 Kashima.
Forks – Sparkly new Fox 36 Talas 160mm Fit RLC
    Wheelset – Crank Bros Iodine
    Gearing – SRAM X0
    Brakes – Hope Tech M4
Cranks – First on the upgrade as currently 3×9 XT (will be 2×10 2012 XT)

I will try and get some pics sorted as the build comes on….

Cheers for the comments though guys. :D
