lobby_dosserFree Memberordered one in Aug with 8 week lead time and chased it up mid October. They couldn’t give me a new date and were very vague saying that it could possibly be another 2- 4 weeks before they start.

lobby_dosserFree Memberthanks for the suggestions, some great suggestions there.
lobby_dosserFree Memberagree about videos flattening out the trail- this one still looks bonkers. On his other videos Yoann talks about line choices etc- with this one he advises not to ride it if your not comfortable with the qualifiers. Insane trail ridden by a loon! Great video and awesome rider.
lobby_dosserFree MemberLooks more like her stem or handlebars collapsed to me.
I thought that as well-
lobby_dosserFree MemberI have had mine for just under a year, and as a serial bike changer, I cannot recommend it enough. I use mine for most things, from a gentle pootle, hike-up- a- ben, coast to coast and riding on/off piste in the Tweed valley approx twice a week.
I guess the best thing I can say about it is that I never think ‘i wish I had brought another bike’ ie. I’ve never came to a downhill bit, techy climb, genteel pootle that I’ve felt under or over biked.
lobby_dosserFree MemberUzbekistan is an amazing place- however i made the mistake and went in July when it was a balmy 40 deg. Good thing was all the tourist places like Bukhara and Samerkand were empty and I managed to get amazing photos. Also spent a couple of days in the mountains close to Tashkent and was an amazing place.
I think the new president is making it easier for visitors, but i think you still have to be registered at a hotel. Cash is another challenge- many Uzbeks dont trust banks or plastic cash and like dealing in money. The exchange rate is something like 8000 Som to $1 USD so people carry around full holdalls and there is only about £50 quid in it 🙂 USD is the black market currency, but you may get searched going into UZb for dollars and searched going out for Soms, as you’re not allowed to take currency out.
Plov and Uzbek bread mmmmmmMy friends family stay in Tashkent and her friends husband has a tourist company run from the Uzbekistan Hotel in Tashkent, they are extremely helpful and if you’re looking for any information I could get in touch.
lobby_dosserFree MemberThanks for posting Rich. Inspiration for my summer adventure.
lobby_dosserFree Memberiirc the Prince Albert was essentially the same geometry as the Morning Glory but in steel, and the Alpine was the equivalent of the Kobe Ti.
I could of course be misremembering as I was mostly drunk in those years
The PA was the same MG, the Kobe ti was the same as a Litespeed Kitsuma and had a very short tt. The Alpine was low and long (well was back then)
Dialled bikes were popular here back in the as there was a huge following for steel hardtails and DB/Mike were good to deal with and cheap prices. I had 2 MK1 PAs, an Alpine and a Kobe Ti.
Still got the Kobe Ti on the shed and have MG built up as a light weight ‘gravel’ bike
lobby_dosserFree MemberI only met him a few times and he was a genuine top bloke. RIP BJ
lobby_dosserFree MemberI don’t know why there’s a lot of posts commenting on the weight of the ortlieb bikepacking gear? Is it really that much heavier than similar offerings from Apidura or Alpkit etc? Also it is waterproof rather than weatherproof. I suspect some of the comments are based on comparisons with ortlieb bike luggage ie. the stuff that is made out of lorry tarpaulin, rather than their bikepacking gear. I’ve bought a lot of Ortlieb stuff to do the NC500 and a C2C this year and it was awesome.
I ran the seatpack, handlebar bag and accessory pack and it performed brilliantly through torrential rain, mud, shit and tears. I ran an Alpkit frame bag for the NC500 because my Ortlieb 6l was too small, but the Alpkit became saturated after a bit of exposure, but to be fair Alpkit never claimed it to be waterproof. Only criticism of the Ortleib framepack is that it is a single zip, therefore a single space and can get a bit bulky. Also the single space means that it is harder to locate things. Whereas the Alpkit had two zips and a divider, that made it easier to locate and organise. When it’s pishing of rain and you’re cold and wet, you want to be able to set up camp as quickly and efficiently as possible.
For the OP, I think the 4l would be ideal as you don’t need the two zips. Check out the Lomo bag, it is only £23 and looks well made. I’m thinking of getting one for my winter hardtail.
My review of Ortleib stuff:-
* Handlebar bag- Can’t fault it. Stuff inside dry as a bone, handy webbing on the outside for holding jacket or sandals
* Accessory bag- as above. Works really well with the handlebar bag and is good for keeping all valuables in and you can quickly detach into ‘man bag’ when you stop for breaks or take into tent.
* Seatpack- it extends a bit out back and depending what you put in it you may get the ‘happy dog’ effect. I stuffed it with all my lightweight stuff like clothes, sleeping bag etc It worked well as long as you thought about how you load it. The webbing on the back is pretty handy too for storing waterproofs etc. The air release valve is a pretty cool feature. Also, because of the shape, it acts as an excellent mudguard.
* Cockpit bag- It’s the only bit of kit that i’m disappointed with. The plastic moulding on the bottom means that it only works on compatible frames. My steel adventure bike was too thin and I had to use extra strapping to stop it moving. The zip is not that accessible normally and even less so with extra strapping holding it down.lobby_dosserFree Member‘ if there are many other mature gentlemen or lady members on here’ there’s no young people on here. Or mountain bikers.
Welcome, good to hear your enjoying the MTB buzz
lobby_dosserFree MemberI had a few bottles of Erdinger after riding the Golfy on a hot summers evening and it hit the spot. Furstenberg is okay if you can get a hold of it.
lobby_dosserFree Memberoops- what a diddy! Still it still looks a bit of a bodge and £30 odd quid for a couple of ‘torque caps’
lobby_dosserFree MemberAlways enjoy his videos and kinda like the fact that he rides an unfashionable brand/geometry/ whatever.
lobby_dosserFree MemberI received mine in May and have ridden loads due to the great summer. It’s a bit of a ‘swiss army’ bike in that it is good at everything, however you don’t really notice how good it is until you compare it to what you could do on your other /older bike. (I recently owned a Devinci Troy, Banshee Rune & Spitfire and numerous other FS over 30 years)
For the amount of travel, it is an amazing climber especially on techy stuff- my lungs/heart give up before the bike. Descending is a hoot- I wouldn’t describe it as super plush, but it seems to work better the faster you go. Its a kinda of neutral bike where you don’t have to think about things, you find you just do it. Eg steep descents, techy climbs
As for all day rides, I completed a C2C bikepacking trip on mine and the biggest day was 85 miles off road and was super comfy the whole day.
Try and get a test ride as the sizing is a wee bit ‘inbetween’ in comparison to other bikes. I’ve ridden large frames for 30 yrs of MTBing and I went for a XL orbea- although I think I would be just as happy on the large.
I had a test ride on the Mondraker Foxy RR and I think the Foxy felt marginally better on some descents, but the Orbea was the better climber and is quiet (see Foxy review on front page). You wouldn’t be disppointed owning either though.
lobby_dosserFree MemberEpic year for weather and new bike riding. Top rides this year (so far);-
* North Coast 500 bike packing on road- adventure bike
* Coast to Coast Fort William to Aberdeen off road mountain bike
* I was managing to rideTweed Valley 2 or 3 times a week and got a bit blase about riding Golfy/Inners and GT off piste, so highlight was an after work blast at Yair with the local trailbuilders. Honorable mention to Thrunton as it was a change.
lobby_dosserFree Member‘The key thing with gravel riding is that it is an alternative to road riding, not an alternative to mountain biking’
This for me.
