I’m totally astounded by your generosity Stanfree.

Giving the bike a once over / clean up for someone when they don’t know what they’re doing, but paying for after sales support just so they can make a profit is on a different level.

If I understand the question correctly then I would pull the full set into a separate tab within the spreadsheet and the just reference the first 5 or whatever.
I often do that for raw data and manipulate it in other ‘calculation tabs’

Im a complete beginner on the suspension setup stuff, so after hearing about them on here, I picked up a Shockwiz this week too, so took it out for a test yesterday.
I found that after a couple of very short runs it had already given me some useful feedback that made the bike feel better. I quickly got the point where it was giving me the “all green” results (other than compression – which I didn’t think I could change on the RCT3 Pikes?
By saying “feeling better” I mean that although I wasn’t going any faster, I wasn’t hanging onto the bars with a death grip and I wasn’t so shattered at the end of the run.
With the bike feeling better, I went and enjoyed the rest of the afternoon and then checked on it at the end of the day… with more data from different run types including a few Moreno big hits, it’s now giving me a the suggestion of adding a spacer… the bike already rides better, and I’m looking forward to trying the changes as it suggests.
All in, I think for me it was the second best money spent on mountain biking (first place still goes to coaching).

Always very cool to hear of folk getting back on their bikes after having an enforced break.
Enjoy the rides, and if I see you out in the Surrey Hills, then the (first) pork and leek slice is on me ;)

    Billy Joel – The Stranger
One of my favourite songs of all time, and as with most of Billy Joel’s music it’s made all the better for being played live

We’ve got one, and I think it’s brilliant – being able to play on the TV or as a handheld is perfect for us. I particularly like how Nintendo hit the sweet spot for game style with the younger kids.

Although it doesn’t get used all the time (it’s got competition from a gaming PC and a 3DS). that said as the game library grows, so will it’s % use.
Mario Rabbids is next on our list.

I find it so difficult to trawl through the movies on iTunes these days that I rarely go there for rentals.

I think I’ll be sticking in a blu ray to see what the sound is like in comparison, as I hadn’t considered that the sound quality would be dropped; although thinking about it, it’s an obvious thing to do to keep bit rates down.

greigb – that’s almost exactly this guys attitude.

So if you’re out with some friends and you got a puncture, would you expect a tube / patch kit to be handed over?

Would it make a difference if your friends had already ribbed you and told you flat that you should carry a spare?

Yep – I fell off twice this week and both times I’ve felt a bit of a shock for a few minutes. On the second one I’ve either badly bruised or cracked a rib, but had the same stunned feeling from both.

I wonder if it’s because we no longer do the rough and tumble that we did as kids and so our bodies aren’t so used to bouncing about so vigorously.

Twice the speed of my partner, and she’s 4 times as fast as the little fella… I do try to slow down as much as I can…
Is it because up north (where I grew up) food cools quicker, while down here in Surrey it doesn’t cool quite so quickly?

    That’s some interesting ideas…

I’m with joshdavies and lunge – I like the idea of just handing over the repair kit (the first time), and letting him faff about with that – hopefully “that’ll learn him”

The reason that it bugs me so much is the fact that he’s deliberately unprepared rather that someone who’s been unfortunate for whatever reason.

Sorry badnewz… afraid I can’t do much better from my pics this weekend.. this is the best I have, but at least it’s in the spirit of Strava’s “athletes* unfiltered”

*i certainly don’t fall into the category of athlete !

Any chance you could send some details of the launcher ?

    wow !

As a kid I always wanted to build stuff like this, but realised that I had as much chance as a slow worm with a hammer of achieving it with my spannering skillz

Ben (the little fella) and I are intending to build a “coke bottle” water rocket with a Pi launcher control system soon though :)

I imagine, but don’t know that if you’re following marked / named bridleways then turn by turn may work… If no one else knows then I’ll test this at the weekend for you.

As for maps, the standard maps aren’t the best, but they do work, however I find the OSM maps better. You can of course buy the OS maps.. I think DC Rainmaker explains how to download and install them here
It’s really quite easy once you get the hang of it.

We’re interested in coming along to this… he’s 10 year old and in the really early stages of singletrack riding, a bit nervous, but very keen.

Unfortunately circumstances mean that the best we could do is fortnightly.

I’m currently going through the transition to flats myself… and ‘losing’ the pedals at the sniff of a little air was my main issue, and nearly gave up in frustration.

Turns out I just needed a little coaching, and now still in baby steps, I’m usually confident I will still have pedals under my feet when I ride off the kerb.

My advice would be to get someone who can show you what to do, then watch you and provide feedback as you session a small feature.

… after some testing and reading – this makes more sense to my situation.

It appears that I can’t stream at the same time, but if I’ve downloaded to my iPhone, then it’s happy to play those tracks while streaming on the echo / dot

I’m probably adding confusion here, but I’m keen to know the score too.

We use Amazon Dot, echo and iPhone amazon music app… often have two on the go at the same time.

It’s possible that we are streaming from “Amazon Music” using the Prime, and separately from “Amazon Music Unlimited”.

… right off to do some testing

    this :-

Only been to Marrakesh, everyone friendly, but everyone wants to sell you something.

In Marrakesh we found that our wallets were constantly worried about being assaulted by the friendly people… never once felt personally threatened.

I’d also second that the road signage can be confusing… when we came back to the city looking for the airport we had to follow the airport bus.

    BTW I’m very jealous!

Yeah, love those ‘German’ style board games, used to play weekly, but haven’t played regularly for a while… El Grande was my favourite for a long time.

The frustration of “I just need one more move” , but knowing everyone is in the same boat.

glad it’s not just me that has this slump thing going on… and thinking about it I can see the reasoning about the stuff going on in summer kicking in.

I think I resist the non biking summer activities for the first half of summer, but maybe by the 2nd half I’m cornered by a combination of that and a build up of tasks that start to enter the ‘need to be done now’ stage after putting them off for weeks.

I agree with a lot of the bands mentioned above diverging from what I like to listen to, but surely a lot of this has to do with how we develop our listening tastes and what direction the band takes?

I use one similar to the Giant one – gives me peace of mind enough to pop into a cafe to buy a coffee, but not enough that I’d leave the bike out of sight while eating / drinking in the shop.

similar boat here as a result of breaking my femur leaving me with one leg 40mm shorter than the other for 20 odd years – the length has now been corrected, but the arthritic damage has been done.

I’m hoping this kind of treatment becomes mainstream in the next 5-10 years

It does sound like mini_supertramp would benefit from some coaching and confidence building for riding. I find the day they learn that feet up and a bit of momentum rolls them over all sorts, is the day they’re riding takes off…

… this happened to me earlier this year (at 46) !
