If you want to clean the pads and rotors, you need to burn the contaminants off.
Ive done my friends and my own, and I just use a basic blow torch you can get from most DIY shops.
Just keep the flame on them until they stop smoking, and thats it. Works every time I have done it.

If you want to do a bit of DIY, you can file off (all the way around) a bit of the inner ridge from the freehub body, that will make enough room for the full cassette to fit.

    Im alive!

I got sent straight to hospital after I saw the doc, OP the next morning and just got home last night.

Pain got gradually worse and worse as the day went on, the nurse thought it would be funny to give me really shit pain killers every hour throughout the night and ask me every time if they made any difference, I said no, but she just carried on giving me the same 5ml syringe that apparently had Morphine in it!

I spent the whole night and most of the morning curled up in pain, Im not afraid to admit it, I cried quite a lot!

Ive had a few very painful injury’s in the past and the pain eased of a bit with them, but about 15hrs curled up in pain with no pain killers, that was something else!

Now the important question, how long before I can get back on the bike?

650g isn’t that light. My OO Fatty forks are around 600g and most Chinese carbon forks are around 500-550g.
Most road bike forks are <350g, so mtb forks have a considerable amount more carbon for strength.
Carbon will certainly help take a bit of the sting out of the trails.

    EDIT:
To put it in perspective, some of the lightest road frames are around 650g!

There are two types of forums.

Those which slam69 is referred to as spam69 because you’re seemingly in every topic selling something.

Those which become a slam69 circlejerk in which the answer to any question is “xxxxx which you can get from @slam69 @grahamfoot @rsebiscuits #fappingsohardrightnow” (UK fatbikes facebook group being the top of that particular chart).

    Pretty much!
I remember you left one of the Facebook fat bike forums because while you were trying to sell something (advertised your shop) to someone in a post, someone else came along and pointed out the item was cheaper elsewhere, you left, seemingly, in a huff because someone dared to mention that you were not the only fat bike shop and that you are quite expensive!

I have now blocked you on FB, so I don’t have to see all your sales posts all the time.

russyh, that looks like it’ll be very nice when its finished, I have a OO Fatty Trail frame too, Im sure you’ll like yours 🙂

Is this a better more believable link for you, dragon?

Qatar: Dutch woman who alleged rape to appear in court
Tourist held since March after reporting being drugged and raped likely facing charges of having sex out of marriage.

Its really poor that the BBC decided that that fact wasn’t worth reporting!

Robert Forstemann has Myostatin-related muscle hypertrophy, which goes to explain why he is that size.

Mine was creaking for ages and I just couldn’t find out where it was coming from. After the umpteenth time striping, greasing and tightening everything, it turned out it was a bit of dirt on the Pawls in the freehub!

Are you trying to use Big – Big, as in, the gear you should really never use on a double?

Sounds and looks like over training to me.
This is why a lot of people have coaches, its easier for someone looking in to see if you’re doing too much, than if you just look at what you’re doing yourself.
You say you have plenty rest between rides, but half your month are hard rides, and not very short hard rides either.
Also, some people idea of rest can be very different to what real rest actually is!

Do you train like that every month?
When was the last time you had a proper easy/recovery week?

Just use a blow torch, its a lot quicker and easier to do.
Plus, don’t forget, you’ll need to burn the disc too, cos if the pads are contaminated, then the rotor is too.
My mate had the same issue and I blow torched them, then they were as good as new again.

If they’re fine normally when not doing exercise, but get shortness of breath during exercise, then it cold be Asthma Induced Exercise.
I had to diagnose myself because when I went to the docs to get checked out, I wasn’t exercising, so the doc never found anything wrong and said I was fine.
I got a basic inhaler and it has made a huge difference.

dahedd, the Vee tyre Mission Commands are one of the worst off road tyres out there!
You really need to look at the tread like you would do with any mtb tyre and see if its suitable for your riding. Just because its a fat tyre, it doesn’t mean it will magically make a poor tread really good in conditions it was not meant for.
I got some VEE8 tyres and they are rubbish off road, but I only use them on the road because of that and will run them 15-25 psi. They will go off road but I don’t expect much when that happens.
I would suggest that keep your tyres for road rides and get a pair off On One Floaters to get you going if you’re on a budget, thats what I have.
There are better and more expensive tyres out there, but the Floaters are a very good budget tyre and will transform your bike straight away 🙂
Plus, if you run them at 20psi, they are actually quite fast on the road too.

    Flapjacks.
Very very easy and cheap to make.
    Golden syrup, margarine & oats.
You can easily add other things into the mix if you want.

dahedd, what tyres have you got?
As with anything, tyres make a huge difference.

fadda, the Fatty Trail has a 170qr rear, Im sure that’s different than the Dune.
So, possibly just a new rear wheel and most of the bits should swap over. There are lots of cheap second hand bits out there that would probably suit.

    Packing wrap method with pics.
Just make sure it is properly tight and you wont have any problems, and if you want to swap tyres, it takes less than 10mins to re-wrap the rim and throw a tyre on.

I cant wait to see the finished article 🙂

I would’ve thought a Snowshoe 2XL would be close to 6″ on that rim, so when the 3XL or 4XL come out, they should suit that rim quite well!

Im still on the original GPX BB on my Fatty, 6200 miles and 1.5 years latter.
Its the same with anything, if you look after it, it should last.
I do have full mudguards though, so very little water/mud gets blasted into it from the tyres.
When you put the new one on, get some waterproof grease and pack it in to help keep the crap out.

Take the screw out and put it in from the other end.
    I would’ve thought you’d need a longer cage.
I just got away with using my med cage X5 with a 42, I would’ve had no chance with anything bigger.

Not a mark on him too and not looking happy

Did you really miss the chunks of dirt stuck in his helmet on the left side?
I guess he went down pretty hard on his head to scoop up chunks of dry earth!

Smudge is the one you want to talk to if you want a quality battery pack.[/url]
Your pack is 8.4v fully charged, so 7.2-8.4v is what you’re after.
You could just buy a cheap Chinese light from ebay for <£20, but you do get what you pay for there.
ALL Chinese sellers lie about the brightness and battery capacity, as long as you know that, you’ll be fine 😉

Just get a pair of £10 fakes from ebay that come with 3 lenses, the lenses fit genuine frames.

You do know that you can get fat bikes around the 11kg mark without to much expense, and some have them around the 8kg mark!
I built my Fatty Trail (with carbon fork) on a tight budget and it came in at 12.7kg, and that was with the standard heavy OO wheels and 2x 1.4kg tyres.

Did you play about with the tyre pressure on the test ride? It makes a huge difference using the correct pressure, and tyre choice can also affect things too.

They’ll probably be steel, aluminium tends to be a bit more expensive.
Half my bikes have steel, the other half have aluminium and I have had no issues with either.
Lots of coloured ones on ebay if you’re into that.

    He didn’t do any bunnyhop!
He rode over the bike and was lucky enough to land well and have the skills to stay upright.
Its happened to me a few times in races, once I actually ran over both the fallers fancy carbon wheels and stayed upright.

    Thanks, wilburt 🙂
I do TT’s on it too, 36th out of 61.

oldgit, if I was leading a group and someone showed up one of those, I’d maybe let them come along, but they would be staying at the back out of the road the whole time.
You can not teach people how ride in a chaingang and follow wheels if you have one of those things joining in.
Tri bars are fine in groups, as long as they don’t get used, just like tt bikes.

Flat bars in a group of riders with drop bars are lethal…

Haha, what a pile of shit!

Maybe if the person using flat bars and everyone around them cant ride a bike!

I have been using my mtb & now a fat bike (with TT bars) in chaingangs for over 10 years, and never once has there been any danger from me, plenty from others who cant ride properly though.
My bars are 620 wide max.

I think Northwind summed it up nicely –

    Northwind

Nothing spoils a road ride like having some dude turn up on a ridgeback hybrid in baggies and keep up.
