tom, did you not know you could choose different/black tyres when ordering?

    Snap!
    I got mine last Wednesday.
The Vee8’s are really fast on the road, good on gravel and small patches of mud/wet leaves and not really surprisingly, terrible on mud more than an inch deep.
I have already done 160 miles on it, its great fun 🙂

Do you use it to pay for fuel?

Just use several layers of duct tape, you can make it as long as you want and there is no danger of it breaking off if you have to flip your bike on it back wheel for storage or whatever.

    Ha, yeah!
I don’t know why I didn’t look properly at the pic, is that a standard square taper fat BB?

What would be the reason for the long rear if it isn’t for a small BB?

Found a couple more pictures of it, its a 68mm BB!

I kinda like the idea that it takes a standard mtb BB, it means I could use a chainset I have in my spares box.
I would probably upgrade bits and bobs as I go along, so a clutch mech could be a likely upgrade.
I have noticed a couple of Italian shops are selling this a bit cheaper, will maybe contact them and see about delivery costs.

My idea for the fat bike would be to replace my heavy (17kg) do everything mtb with rack etc…, so I would be using it on the road a lot, so throwing it about on the trails would only be 30-40% of its use, so the long back end may not be to bad for me!

The Go Outdoors one is 7kg heavier and has a screw on block, you can also get them for around £330.
I don’t want one that cheap and nasty.

I never noticed the delivery times, good spot.

I do like the Silverback, but that is £100 more and way over my budget at the moment. The Bottecchia is at the top of my budget though.
Im in the process of selling bikes and stuff to fund the new bike, so I’ll have to see what else I can find worth selling!

Im still on the look out for something second hand, so maybe something else will pop up by the time I get the funds.

I had the same problem with sweaty hands in thick gloves like you, I now use one or two pairs of thinner breathable gloves, but make sure I keep my core and arms warm and that seems to do the job.

What did you do to lose it?
There are lots of storys of people having 30+ points on their licence and still getting to keep it if they claim hardship/chance of job loss!

    There are loads on ebay.
I would recommend getting one with a cut out like this, because I bought the one pictured above and it wasn’t usable because there was no flex in it, so I ended up cutting a hole in it like the saddle I linked too and now it is very comfy, for a carbon saddle anyway!

I get packs off 20 from DX for a few pounds, but you’ll need a multi-meter to check them because sometimes you can get a few dead ones.
What I didn’t know though, was that you can get rechargeable 2032 battery’s, and I’ll will be getting some of those when I get through all the battery’s I have left.

Lightman….Have you got an axe to grind here ? do you sell batteries ?

    Strange question!
Is this not a forum where people try and help out others, sorry if it offends you that Im trying to stop people buying crap!
I have a huge amount of experience with certain battery’s and Chinese companys and their ways of faking everything.
If I was still selling battery’s, why would I refer buyers to other people selling battery’s?!

Whats in your typical Ultrafire battery ~

I’d rather not get the ultrafire ones, anything a bit better quality recommended??

Well said. To anyone who has just bought Ultrashit battery’s, you have just totally wasted your money and more than likely bought reclaimed laptop battery’s smeared with Ultrfire shit.
There is no such thing as 4200mAh 18650 battery’s.

I you want good battery’s, you have to pay proper money for them.
The recommendations of Torchy or Smudge are your best most reliable bet.

Im still alive and no longer have to wear a burka when going out.
The swelling has slowly been going down, there is still a smallish lump, but its not quite as obvious now.
I am still taking pain killers several times a day, but no where near what I was taking over the weekend.
I wasn’t paying much attention to the amount I was taking, just taking them when needed, but it seems I was taking around 400-600mg (ibuprofen) roughly every 3hrs and the packet says you should only take 1200mg per day max!
I needed that much on Sunday, as that is when the fluid started moving from my cheek to my gum as it started forcing the skin away from the bone!

Joe, I thought the 15-20 mins the dentist took to get my tooth out was bad enough!
After about 10 mins she decided to get the drill out and cut the tooth/gum up so she could get it out in smaller pieces, and it still took a fair bit of effort, but it worked.

Google maps are very good for bike routes, Ive used them several times and they usually give a few choices.

    intelligent charger

Exactly how intelligent is the charger?
If it is any good, then do a recharge/refresh cycle on them and get the capacity.
90% of my battery’s are Eneloop’s and Ive never had an issue with them yet over several years of use.

As for comparing standard NiMH to LSD batterys, its a no brainer as far as I am concerned.
Standard lose 1% capacity per day and LSD lose approx 15% per year!

Oh, and I’d avoid 7day shop.
They overestimate their own brand battery’s by about 40%, so don’t expect to get the capacity they advertise. Its almost like they’re run by the Chinese who must overestimate everything they sell.

johnathan, it certainly is child abuse making your boy ride with his saddle THAT low!
Its not a mtb remember, get that saddle up and he might actually be able to cycle up hills sitting down 😉

I would never want to see my battery’s at 2.5v. Some may be okay with that, but I would advise trying to keep them no lower than 3v.
    3.88v is about 55% charge.

Does your charger do capacity? I would be interested to know how close to 3400mAh those battery’s are.

    PS.
Do you carry a spare light just in case the SS fails?

    mcnultycop
You have to REALLY screw the top down tight to get all the battery’s a good contact because two of them stick up higher than the others.
It could really do with having longer springs at the bottom.

You could get a couple of cheap alternatives like this. I just got one and Im quite happy with it for the price.

Just had a look at the ebay link, its sad to see Torchy is going down the Chinese way of advertising his products!
1100Lumens and a 3hrs runtime on high WTF!
With a 3hr runtime, the U2 will only be driven at about 1000mAh which means it will get no where near 1100Lumens, at best it’ll be around 300L out the front accounting for heat losses etc…
To get close to 1100 (in optimal lab conditions), it needs to be driven to its full potential at around 3000mA which will give the battery runtime of about 1hr, not 3hrs and even then, it’ll only be about 900Lumens out the front.

See my post here if you’re looking for budget lights.

The one I linked to is not a Joystick-esque, the Joystick uses a shitty small led, that one uses the latest XM-L, and its not the sort of weight you want on you helmet.
People get far to obsessed with having thousands and thousands of Lumens, when in reality you can get by with a lot less if they put the light in the correct place.
If you want a light helmet light, then this one should do, it may also need a spring soldered on though.

You would be better getting two flashlights (its what I use all the time), that way you can aim either light up or down, and if for some reason there was a fault with one (very rare), you still have another working one and don’t have to rely on just one light.

alexandersupertramp, this is a list of what I recommend.
    Battery’s or similar to these.
Charger. You’ll need an adaptor or cut the end off and put a normal plug on.
Bar mount. Ive tested loads and the cheapest is the best, use a zip tie for oversize bars.
Flashlight. I recommend this one if you have the ability to solder a spring onto the positive end cos it doesn’t have one.
The flashlight is the type you should be looking at. Nice and simple with very little that can go wrong and cheap enough if you wanted two.
This would’ve been the type of flashlight I would’ve recommend you, but they changed the manufacturing and ruined it!
You can read my review on the page about it, with pictures.

You can buy most of these items on ebay, but don’t get cheap battery’s like Ultrafire and any that say they have upwards of 3500mAh, because they don’t and will be worthless.

That’s what I use/set up my bikes for.
I got my Big Nine last year and changed the forks to standard 26″ rigid and then a -17 130mm stem, both of which kept the front down which was really needed for that bike.
The only thing with this set up, after going up really steep hills, you need to come back down and it can be really iffy as sometimes I am dangerously close to going over the bars!
It looks weird, but does the job I ask of it. Could do with being a bit lighter though.
