OK I’ll go nuts on the shifter with the GT 85 tomorrow

Make sure to cover your discs and rotors before nailing it with GT85, though, or you’ll be forking out for new pads at least!

Ha, yeah, learnt that the hard way already!

    Cheers guys.

Is everyone here pissed? Or is it just my own inebriation making this thread so straaange?

Crap description lifted straight off their website?

Avid trails brakes (need a service)

If that bit’s from their website they need to sack the marketing department!

Oh, and my automatic headlights which never seem to turn off other than for 15minutes at noon each July.

This is a whole lot better than the usual hoards of barely conscious halfwits driving around in semi-darkness/fog/biblical rain without bothering to turn their lights on at all.

    Has anyone mentioned Bewilderwood yet?
If not they should have. It’s ace.

I’d avoid Cromer – had fond childhood memories of the place but on return last year thought it was really shabby. Nice to walk along the pier though.

As a ex biker, I always notice a nod of the head or a foot being stuck out.

However on a 120 mile journey today, I was almost sideswiped twice by other divers who didn’t ‘see’ me.
If these idiots can’t spot +2 tonnes of Volvo XC90, they ain’t gonna notice a nod!

    Either:
    – send money to family or friends (AKA PayPal gift). No fees as long as you have funds in your PP account to cover it. If not it gets charged to your credit card and you get charged. Downside is no buyer protection at all.
    – or send normal payment but add a bit on to cover the fees your seller will be charged. Upside is full buyer protection.

    Simples.

Good point Shermer….. he was originally assuming he could just do it on his MTB!
That Mekk might suit him better – good find alexdodd

Wow – that Planet X looks unbeatable for the price

That CAAD10 looks good too – he might prefer a mainstream brand, but only 1 size still in stock

They have some individual flapjacks at the tills usually – v. nice (not the chocolate topped ones though)and only 50p.

I used to enjoy them with a clear conscience, until I noticed each one contains 50% of your recommended Sat Fat intake!

+1 for try before you buy.
Local Giant dealer has Anthem x2 and Carbon Trance demos, you can take em for a weekend & they don’t even ask for a deposit. Great service, presume other branches would offer similar so why not make the most of it.

For the record, I’ve got an Anthem! Love it. But also loved the Trance I had before it.

    Haslet on toast

mmmm… with branston pickle (or cheaper own-label alternative)

Always provokes a debate on the correct pronunciation though. Is it hass-let or hay-slet?

    Hi Rich,
just out of interest, who’s the lender for your 7 year fixed deal?
I’m looking for a new deal now, but only seeing terms up to 5 yrs.

(ps the Mondraker’s going strong! It was for my lad – his first proper bike & he’s loving it!)

    Cheers.

I did around 500 quid’s damamge to a cab once – some of it with my bike, some with my face.

Whilst in the ambulance I asked the police about the damage & his advice was ‘keep your money in your pocket – that’s what he’s got insurance for’

Couldn’t do that with a clear conscience though as it was my fault, so I sorted it out through my house insurance

Thing is, calling it ‘magic body control’ seems to suggest they kind of stumbled on something but aren’t entirely sure how or why it works ……. so if anyone asks…. it’s just magic OK?

But never mind all that – look at those crazy chickens!!

That one looks OK to me

I’ve bought & sold quite a few with no problems, although there seem to be more & more a-holes on eBay every day

Only once & the guy refused to pay the additional postage cost, despite me clearly saying the quoted price was for UK postage.
Although he had 100% feedback, there were several comments saying he’d pulled the same stunt with other people, but as sellers they couldn’t leave negative feedback (great system eBay – thanks for that!)

Only ship to the UK now.

edit: it was a computer hard-drive sent to Italy BTW – so we’re only talking a few quid extra to post

    2 things to consider:
    – having it written off might not be a bad thing if you plan to keep it and re-sale value isn’t a concern. You can buy it back from the insurance company as salvage and pocket the difference between the payout and the repair
    – this route would mean your insurance permiums go up, as you’ll be classed as a higher risk driver (as currently being discussed in this thread:linky

    Legoman
    Free Member

Eh? The evaluation of me as higher risk is directly attributable to the accident, caused by him (the total nobber!)

    Legoman
    Free Member

I’ve been in the same situation as the OP – hit whilst stationary, car written off etc

Surely my resulting higher insurance premiums are a direct result of the ‘at fault’ driver’s negligence and as such, should be treated in the same way as any other un-insured loss which resulted from the accident i.e. reclaimed through his insurance?

I knmow this isn’t how it works, but I don’t understand why not.

    Cranky

I’ve just bought one of these – available in 50mm for £19.99 (10% off until Weds too).

Novotel Reims is a good call for stopover – they don;t bat an eyelid when you walk through reception with a bike on your shoulder!

We’ve done Hertfordshire to Bourg a couple of times.
Did it all in one go on the return leg once – it’s doable but it’s a slog and as said above, the driver will be knackered and need recovery time.

I’m sure your mate will be aware, but don’t forget the VE103 – it proves you have the vehicle owner’s (lease company) permission to take the car overseas. If you’re stopped without it, the French police can impound the car (never heard of this happening, but it could in theory). It’s nothing to do with insurance though.

I’ve had this a couple of times recently – someone bids, then mysteriously cancels their bid before the auction ends.
    Really pees me off.

Is it a new function on eBay?

Just another reason why selling on eBay should only ever be the last resort.

Same problem here recently, when my lad outgrew his 24er.
Much more option if you go down the 2nd hand route I found, so got him this Mondraker 26er – it’s a tad on the big side for him (17 inch frame), but a shorter stem and a couple of inches off the seatpost and it’ll be comfortable enough.
Decent spec components too, better than a bottom-of-the-range new bike and not much more ££

Here he is saying hi to a Llama last weekend:

Muddy splash around Swinley with a mate who’d blagged a nice demo bike for the weekend.

It was was either 12.3 miles or 10.4 miles, depending who’s Strava you believed.

    Was it still this damp:

I normally gauge the severity of conditions by the look on my wife’s face when she see’s the state I’m in.
Arrived back from Swinley today & her look was somewhere between abject disapproval and unbridled disgust.

Hence I gauge Swinley approx 7/10 on mud & grime scale today.

Stayed here for a long weekend last year – it’s actually in Shieldaig.
Beautiful house & location but might be a bit expensive just for a couple (we were in a larger group)

Madpierre – thanks, thats probably the clearest guide I’ve seen

APF – very generous offer mate, but I’m in Hertfordshire. Thanks anyway

Are people really that profligate and/or averse to mucky nails?

I’m more averse to taking stuff apart, buggering it up more that it was already, then taking a box of bits to the LBS and confessing my incompetence!
Agree with your point though – I’d rather learn how to do it as it seems like one of those things I’m likely to do more than once

By bearings you mean actual steel balls…. come in a packet.

    yep – loose ball bearings

    Legoman

    Thanks for the help guys.
Think I will invest in a couple of cheap cone spanners (I won’t use them often enough to justiy expensive ones) and have a go at replacing the bearing and tightening up the cones.

Are bearings just bearings, or do I need to look for a certain type/spec?
Anyone know how many there are in an XT hub?

    Cheers.
